Chapter 690: Chapter 323 Seeking Companions Again

On their way, they found the graves of Little Lina and the cook Aunt Milia, among others. After paying his respects and mourning their lamentable fates, Leon left the cemetery.

After learning the way to the Forest River Valley from the villagers of Selva Village, they rested for a night before setting off again.

The next day, Leon and Ines rode horses through the decayed and damaged forest avenue. They spent half a day traversing the familiar yet unfamiliar forest hollow, gazing from horseback.

They did not see the magnificent ancient fortress.

All they saw on the distant hillside was a desolate expanse of weathered ruins.

Along the winding riverbanks, village houses and farmsteads dotted the landscape. Farmers were busy with the autumn harvest, painting a picture of peaceful and tranquil pastoral life.

Even in Farolis City and Selva Village, where people had never heard of the “Nightmare Forest” legend, and the forest south of Selva was known by another name, he had already anticipated this.

Yet seeing Avalon Castle… or should I say Purple Bauhinia Castle, long washed into ruinous relics by the passage of time in this space, Leon’s heart sank infinitely.

Lady Aphrodite’s Mage Tower, with its Ancient Lorelette Magic Collection, was practically his only hope of studying and deciphering the space-time magic of Oran Palace.

But now, his greatest reliance might be crumbling.

This forest region in this world had never been shrouded by a Spiritual Field. Even worse, the “Cursed Land” legend, which should have been well-known on the Western Continent, was something that no one here had ever heard of.

The differences in parallel space-time are even larger than imagined.

“Are you okay?” Ines, noticing the deepening somber expression on Leon’s face, asked with concern.

Leon momentarily masked the confusion in his heart and shook his head, “I’m fine, let’s take a look.”

They rode along the severely damaged road, passing by the village nestled in the river valley. With a small inquiry, they learned that this fairly large village had been here for centuries, with villagers’ ancestors growing up in this river valley.

As for the ruins on the high ground by the mountains, during wartime, some soldiers only briefly camped there as a temporary base. From the earliest memories of their ancestors, it had always been the ruins of an ancient fortress, with nothing special about it.

Harboring a final shred of reluctance and hope, Leon urged his horse swiftly towards the ruins of the ancient mage fortress.

Halting his horse before the severely weathered stone base of the city walls, he surveyed the surroundings.

The once tall and intact splendid walls were gone, with only partially buried fragments remaining, and sections of the fortress wall large as boulders, indicating the existence of a once sturdy bastion.

But none of this mattered.

Leon flicked the reins, driving his horse quickly into the dust-coated ruins streets, bypassing the rubble of the collapsed canal bridge, heading for the ruins of the former upper district.

The deeper they went into the Inner City, the more difficult it was to proceed. Outside of roads once cleared by the army, the collapsed middle district platform concealed every stairway and slope, making it impossible for the horse to follow the original paths to the higher areas.

Leon had no choice but to tie the horse, shielding Ines, as they climbed over the heavily weathered ruins mountain path.

After a strenuous climb akin to mountaineering, they arrived at the circular plaza, circled the broken dry fountain, and climbed the platform at the end of the high order.

Looking at the ruins of the Mage Tower covered in dust in front of him, Leon silently stepped forward.

With magic light at his fingertips, he drew a Dharma Seal resonating with the Magic Veil and chanted a spell:

(In Ancient Lorelette Language)

“Paying respects to Lady Netti, O place of seclusion, please open a path for us…”

However, after a long wait, there was no magic feedback from the surroundings.

Leon sighed and dispelled the magic in his hand.

The ruins of the Mage Tower before him were not an illusion.

In this space-time, the legacy of the ancient Great Mage had indeed not been preserved.

Before leaving, he conducted a reluctant search, and after confirming there was nothing significant, Leon had no choice but to leave the ruins with Ines, returning to the village to find a place to stay.

On the way, he couldn’t help but wonder what it meant that this space-time lacked a “Spiritual Field”? This wasn’t just a matter of a few individuals’ fates changing.

No wonder when he asked around the forest villages and towns, the villagers said that not only were there villages in the southern river valley, but also a famous mining town nearby.

Apparently, without the curse, those underground Dwarf mines had already been developed and utilized by the local lords throughout this world’s history.

….Finding a tavern-inn in the village, Leon had the assistant tie up the horses, then shouldered his bag and walked into the inn to inquire about the price at the counter.

“A spot in the shared dormitory costs five copper coins, a single room one Dier and five copper coins, and two Dier for a double room, excluding meals and drinks…” the owner lazily answered, resting in a chair swatting flies.

Unable to help grumbling about the price, Leon remembered Olivia had only charged three Dier for a month to rent him a farmhouse for three people. He wondered whether the little lion was too kind or this place was trying to rip them off.

He was about to routinely book two single rooms when Ines stopped him.
