Chapter 667: Chapter 311 Suppression
“Abduction?”
Caso’s voice rose as he spurred his horse, driving forward with Count Arsene and the guards behind him, toward the nobles of the western Kingdom.
“Why don’t you let me return among you? Your king comes and goes freely, when was there ever such an abduction in this world?” Caso’s tone was particularly high-pitched. As the Cantadar Crown Prince who had assisted his father in governing for many years, he was never cowardly. Seeing the turmoil as an opportunity to showcase his mediation skills, his desire to perform suddenly became overwhelming.
Perhaps it was the king Caso’s words and actions that had an effect, or perhaps it was the presence of Count Arsene that quelled the suspicious and anxious Cantadar nobles amidst the chaos.
The unrest blocking the main road in front of the West City Post District seemed to be calming down.
Marsk raised a hand gesture, and the formation of Forbidden Guards blocking the street collectively raised their spears. The Royal City crossbowmen densely packed on the rooftops on either side of the street slightly lifted the aim of their arrows.
Leon felt more at ease.
Despite some unexpected incidents, as long as they could control the Cantadar nobles within the two post districts without bloodshed, preventing it from escalating into chaotic bloody conflict was the best outcome.
Now, in the two areas completely sealed off, the troublemakers related to the Athiasians had no way to escape… Next, they just needed to search the entourages’ belongings and the post district’s premises.
Suddenly, Olivia, with her visor down, whipped her head around to look behind.
Almost instantly.
BOOM——!!
A bizarre explosion like a thunderbolt from a clear sky resonated from behind the military formation on the outskirts of the district.
Terrible screams and shouts of battle came forth as the Forbidden Guards outside the encirclement unexpectedly broke into sudden combat with unknown assailants.
Like a signal, within the district, hundreds of riders and carriages from Vellozal Territory let out war cries as they fiercely charged, spurred by their warhorses.
In an instant, purple arcs of light, as quick as lightning, soared skyward from within the Kantadar’s carriage formation, with several terrifying spirals of sonic booms darting over the heads of the unresponsive crowd, straight towards Orland’s formation blockade.
Count Arsene, closest to the crowd, reacted first; the Peacock Knight brandished his sword to block in front of Caso, deflecting the purple arc intended for the monarch.
Yet, the spinning rod-like object in mid-air swerved and fell like a meteor once more—!
Amidst the shocking twist, Marsk and Baron Kellan across the street rode their steeds out of the military formation.
In the time before the orders from the Great Knight could be issued, several purple trajectories twisted alive, swerving past Marsk’s intended block, heading straight for the Avalon Knights.
Olivia had no time to issue a warning, grabbed the Victory Sword upon her back, and leapt from the saddle.
——Boom!
The Knight Girl’s body spun in mid-air like a blade-laden gyro, her black sword’s whirling blade cleaving the trajectory aimed at Leon’s main formation completely apart.
Landing, Olivia’s rotating stride had not yet ceased, and with dance-like steps, she dashed forward sword in hand.
On his right arm, accompanying the bursting Elemental Lightning, Leon dispersed his hurried attempt at intercepting the incoming attack, shifting his gaze from the trajectory of the magic-guided crossbow arrow severed by Olivia’s sword, his eyes sweeping the surroundings to lock on other military formations targeted by the siege machinery.
All happened in the blink of an eye.
But not every location being targeted had a Great Knight of such exceptional martial prowess able to respond.
Three or four more siege crossbow arrows, streaking like purple comets, entered the military formations.
The mighty magic siege crossbows pierced through soldiers in heavy armor holding large shields, until the giant arrows with a spiraling crash lodged into the ground.
The quivering tail rod emitted a dreadful sharp whine, pinning the last pierced corpses firmly to the ground, extinguishing the demon rune on the shaft of the siege crossbow arrow.
Marsk and Kellan’s loud roars of command finally reached the soldiers’ ears.
In the riot ahead, hundreds of “knights” charged through the Cantadar cavalry, shouting incomprehensible syllables, drawing peculiar single-edged glowing longswords, formed a solid wall-like assault directly against Orland’s formation.
The street transformed into a battlefield, and in this relatively narrow arena, a short battle instantly erupted.
Behind the charging riot knights, more than a dozen spellcasters who had shed their disguises wielded glowing elements, magic wands materializing out of thin air. They chanted ancient spells, dispersing into groups of threes and fives, trained and coordinated, drawing magic techniques with magic power, invoking attack magic that danced in the demon runes.
In their further rear, a tall black-robed mage used the end of his magic wand to strike the base of a carriage set with a simple array.
A moderate-sized controlling magic array illuminated under his feet, and on the payload of the carriage carrying the siege crossbow, a hum resounded. The Proper Position Mage, unrestrained, launched twice the number of magic-guided giant arrows into the sky compared to before.
“——Destructive witchcraft! Spread out!!!” The Forbidden Guard officer shouted hoarsely to cope with the military command against the large-scale killing magic as the terrifying purple radiance once again assaulted like a meteor shower.
Then, in the next instant, thunder resounded in the sky, a penal-like thunderbolt crashing down from the heavens.
——Boom!
Leon, riding the Black Steed, guided the Thunder Spear Gungnir’s descent, crashing into the location of the carriage formation launching the second volley of magic-guided giant arrows.
The startled Athias Mage raised his head quickly, wielding his magic wand to promptly unfold the pre-set magic barrier within it.
The beehive-like magic light of the “Rodoa Strong Wall” held back the Thunder Spear’s impact that could sunder mountains.
However, while the mage could withstand the strike of the thunder-infused magic spear, the ordinary wooden carriage he stood upon could not withstand such a terrifying force.
The instant the electric arc met the barrier, with a crack, the Athias Mage, as though plunging into tofu, was pressed through the thick wooden carriage framework to the ground.
Accompanied by the arc rumbling generated by the target-struck magic spear, the carriage payload exploded into fragments within a moment.
The unfortunate cargo carriage was no magic war carriage and fell apart under the unbearable spell duel within a brief span, spilling its load of magic-guided crossbow arrows in a resounding scatter across the ground.
A dozen already launched magic-guided giant arrows crashed into the military formation, claiming numerous Royal City Guards’ lives, but perhaps now there wouldn’t be a third volley of giant arrows to occur.
Amidst the clanging noise, the Athias Mage swept aside the overturned carriage wreckage with a swathe of his robes, surveying the scattered magic-guided crossbow arrows around him, anger boiling within.
This was not the planned battlefield, nor could he create a robust mobile magic-guided crossbow firing platform within mere moments.
Turning his gaze to the silver thunder magic wand embedded not far away, the Athias Mage followed the perception of magic power, looking toward the indigenous army charging forward.
Fixing his eyes on the direction of the magic source, furious spells rang from his lips as he drew the Dharma Seal, causing a magic-guided crossbow arrow on the ground to spin and hover beneath his palm.
