Chapter 443 - 443 207 Destroying the Soul Bell
443: Chapter 207 Destroying the Soul Bell 443: Chapter 207 Destroying the Soul Bell “…Master’s command…
cannot be disrupted…
protect the Soul Summoning Bell…”
The Corpse Witch, seated on the skeletal warhorse, lifted its blood-red eyeless gaze to the Griffin soaring in the sky.
Beside the Forest Hill, the Kantadar armored warriors, silent and aligned like statues, began moving their dry, stiff bodies beneath the armor, raising the weapons they held.
Beneath the helmets with human-faced beards came the wails of wandering souls.
The Corpse Ghost Wizard’s incomplete jaw opened, a low chant accompanying the sway of the bone staff, while the sound of the soul-summoning chariot’s bell grew even louder.
— Bong!
—
The inaudible spirit-summoning sound echoed in all directions, the magic-infused ghostly bell’s tone directly touching the soul.
The whistling magic sound swept over the Griffin’s body, and the Death Claw, soaring with flapping wings, suddenly let out a wail, its massive consciousness pausing momentarily.
Leon sensed the Griffin companion beneath him become dizzy and pained, unable to maintain balance of its flapping wings, and it stumbled to the ground from mid-air.
“Hold on tight!” he loudly reminded Olivia behind him.
Crash!
The Griffin, halfway in its descent, fell into the undead crowd, its massive body scattering a circle of enemies and crushing the living corpses under its beastly claws into pieces.
The Death Claw shook its muddled head, smelling the strange cries and decay around it, and endured the headache as it suddenly leapt, its giant blood-covered claws sending the encroaching living corpses flying.
“…Lola, what’s wrong with the Death Claw?”
Leon tightened his grip on the saddle, watching the Griffin angrily slaughter the undead crowd beneath it, puzzled by what had just happened.
“…
That bell tinged with spirit-summoning magic can attract gathering souls, and once it’s amplified to sufficient magic power, it can even directly extract weak-willed living souls.
Though this child is not that fragile, it’s still a living being.
Since you don’t know protective spells, it can hardly resist the pain of its soul being torn.” Lola explained in Leon’s mind.
Leon was confused, as he also heard that bell but did not feel any mental attack: “Then why am I fine?
Did you protect me earlier?”
“…Yes.” Lola did not deny, responding as if it were so.
Leon quickly turned back: “Olivia, did you feel any pain from hearing that bell?”
“Pain?
What?” Olivia, holding onto the bumpy secondary seat, shook her head blankly: “I’m fine.”
Hearing the voice through her faceguard sounded genuine, not feigned, Leon was relieved.
“…Don’t be afraid, this degree of magic effect still isn’t enough to impact the disturbing magic field within Olivia.” Lola’s comforting words were suddenly cut off as she issued a warning.
“Move right in three breaths!
From the direction of the bell, there’s a magic technique locking on here, a direct-hit spell…”
Leon dared not hesitate, directing his gaze to the east side of the Forest Hill, transmitting the command to the Death Claw beneath him.
So fast events turned, only a scant few seconds delay saw the location where an enemy spellcaster was suspected to hide flicker with eerie light.
The Griffin flapped its wings, leaping to avoid as instructed by its companion.
An ear-piercing shriek came instantly—!
The piercing whistling felt like countless wailing resentful spirits, the ghostly green torrent trajectory piercing through all obstructive Corpse Ghosts ahead without any regard for “ally.”
Bam!
The directly struck magic fell on the Death Claw’s original position, causing ghost fire to combust and rise in large swaths.
As Leon steadied himself on the Griffin’s back, he heard the terrifying cries and wails from within the magic torrent’s ghost fire.
A large mass of green fire suddenly flew upwards, coalescing into innumerable ghastly green shadows, turning into resentful spirits demanding the living’s life.
Each ghost held a semi-transparent long sword, sharp blade, dagger, even sickle and hoe, crashing towards the Griffin.
Leon quickly activated the Molten Flame Blade of his Magic Gun.
The simple-minded Griffin, having never seen such peculiar enemies, instinctively swung its forelimbs.
But the giant claws passed through the spiritual body with no harm, while the spectral blades clanged against the Griffin Armor, even leaving wounds on the exposed beast’s skin.
Feathers were scattered by the ghosts like stings, infuriating the Death Claw into unending wailing.
Leon immediately ordered the Griffin to jump back swiftly, lowering its huge body.
The resentful spirits pursued, the knight on the Griffin’s back raising the Flame Blade for a horizontal slash.
The magic wand’s gunblade carved out a brilliant arc of blazing flame, shattering the charging resentful spirits with a roar.
The molten fire pierced through the spiritual body, amidst the ghostly wails, as menacing shadows once again dissolved into pure soul fire.
Mortal iron is hard-pressed to harm a pure spirit, but the magic-condensed elemental fire can effectively destroy the ghost’s solid energy state.
Seizing the gap as the molten flame drove back the spirits, Leon yanked the reins, urging the Griffin to dash forth.
Facing a multitude with few, capturing the leader first remains a constant truth, and time must not be wasted entangled with this group of ghosts as who knows how many more they can summon.
Under the bizarre heavenly phenomena field, even dispersing the resentful spirits can’t send these undead into the Dead Sea, and having not fully recovered his magical power, he is likewise unable to sustain a prolonged battle.
The slightly recovered giant beast turned, leaving the group of ghosts, nimbly advancing its limbs towards Forest Hill, rumbling over the undead crowd that blocked its path.
Amid the jolting ride, Olivia turned back to stare at the relentless ghosts drawing nearer.
She suddenly reached out to unfasten the saddle strap, flipping over and leaping off the charging Griffin.
“!!” Hearing the commotion behind him, Leon’s heart clenched, yanking the reins to abruptly halt the Griffin, looking back.
The strong aura of a living being almost attracted all those ghost-like fish in the sea towards it.
The knight girl who landed on the ground stood fearlessly wielding the long sword, focusing her mind.
In an instant, brilliant gold bloomed in Olivia’s pupils behind the mask, as an extraordinarily grand magic element surged into an invisible force field, a slight whirlwind gusting around her small silhouette.
A large group of ghosts swung their blades down, screaming as they attacked the girl standing in place.
Whoosh—
One after another shadow burst into collapse like moths to a flame before touching the girl’s body.
Sustaining a concentrated mind to maintain the full-body strength, Olivia slashed her long sword.
The disruptive magic field surrounding the blade shattered the last few lingering spirits, neither dodging nor evading.
The girl spun her body into a whirl slash, her sword blade sweeping through the encircling Corpse Ghosts, with cold light flashing as severed remnants fell in halves.
Before the spread-out clawing undead bodies hit the ground, the girl who had turned already moved, flitting left and right to weave through the surging corpse tide back to the Griffin’s side.
“We have to fight together!
Sitting behind I would interfere with your magic.” Olivia deftly held her sword, raising her head to speak solemnly.
Leon nodded without further words, spurring the Griffin to charge once more.
Indeed, if the girl was shielded by his side, their mutually cancelling combat styles could not operate freely.
And as Avalon’s most powerful Champion Knight, the girl’s skills hardly required him to shield her every step…
“…Stop them.”
Watching the Griffin that had burst through the undead crowd charging their way, calling more Corpse Ghosts around to abandon the siege and surround to delay the disruptive beast, the Corpse Witch mobilized the arrayed Guardians of the Dead Soul, as they advanced on the enemy with a marching order far beyond their living coordination.
