Chapter 137 - 137 87 Return to Kosos County
137: Chapter 87: Return to Kosos County 137: Chapter 87: Return to Kosos County Within the circular hall on the first floor of the high tower, the warhorse, exhausted to the core, collapsed onto the ground, its ears drooping forward, shaking its head with a whimper.
Its eyes, full of intelligence, seemed to have resolved to be stubborn, deciding to remain lying down no matter how its master tugged on the reins.
This noble warhorse that had been worked to the bone had indeed fulfilled its duty.
However, Leon simply stepped aside and watched as Miss Lola lightly touched the horse’s drooping head—brilliant demon runes spread like a circuit diagram across the glossy black skin of the horse in an instant.
The warhorse convulsed, steam visible to the naked eye rose from its body, and its muscles swelled slightly.
The horse that had been lying on the ground suddenly sprang up as if injected with adrenaline.
Its ears were so excited that they stuck out to the back, and it snorted loudly through its nose, its limbs regaining their strength as it stamped its hooves on the hall’s floor with a clattering sound.
Leon hurried forward to grab hold of his mount’s reins to prevent it from running amok in its agitation.
“All right, let’s head back, or your little friends who returned to Orland will be concerned if they can’t find you.
They might just run back to Kantadar looking for you, and if you miss each other, that would cause needless trouble.”
After casting the small magic, Lola turned and walked towards the stairs, planning to return to her workshop above and continue her research into Aphrodite’s magic.
Leon looked at her with confusion, “We only split up to escape yesterday, and Lokhak and the rest are still with Miss Elena.
In one day’s time, they probably haven’t even made it to the middle of Kantadar yet, so how could they have returned to Orland before me?”
“Ah…
I forgot to tell you…” The Miss Mage paused on the steps.
She turned back apologetically and spread her hands, “The time you spent in the spirit-like field does not match with the outside world.
In most cases, the flow of the time river within the spirit-like fields is slower than the outside.
Now, in their eyes, they’ve been apart from you for much more than a day.”
Leon was startled, “Ah?
You’re not saying that several months have passed outside, are you?”
A situation like a suspended chess game happening to oneself was not amusing!
Leon looked towards Kovis, who had suggested entering in the first place and hadn’t warned him about anything like this.
Kovis shrugged, clueless.
His understanding of spirit-like fields was based solely on Pilireno’s words and what he had read in books; he had never experienced them firsthand.
“It’s not as exaggerated as that.
The previous temporal disorder here hasn’t reached that extent.
Last time you exited and arrived in Selva, not much time had passed in the outside world; otherwise, the war between those kingdoms should have been over a long time ago,” Lola explained.
Leon thought about it and realized she was right…
The previous conversation with Miss Elena was more or less consistent with her impression of being separated from her brother Lokhak for over two months.
If that was the case, the outside world might have only progressed by a few days the first time they emerged from the Nightmare Forest.
However, the three of them had been so focused on escaping that they had no reference to the actual date, and they had never realized how long they had been delayed in the forest.
Of course, a time discrepancy of several times was dramatic enough, and the longer they stayed, the bigger the trouble—the good thing was the spirit-like field had already dissipated.
“Well, I’m off.
Take care, Lola, and if anything unexpected happens, forget about the cards and come straight to me…”
Leading the warhorse, Leon bid farewell to the Miss Mage, who had been by his side since his awakening, and took Kovis away from the Mage Tower.
In order to save time, the two rode together, but because the horse’s back could not bear more, Leon did not take the Armor and weapons of the Flame Sun Guard or their remains.
Since the Cursed Land had already dissipated, it was safe to leave them in the Mage Tower for Lola to guard.
He could come back for them later.
Following the general direction provided by Lola, Leon rode the reinvigorated warhorse out of the deserted town and sped along the road outside the fortification.
The menacing black veil in the sky was no longer visible.
The sunlight, after who knows how many years, once again fell upon this ancient forest.
Riding down the smooth stone-paved road at the horse’s feet, the warhorse galloped at an incredibly fast pace.
When undead beasts blocking the path lunged at them on the way, Leon unsheathed his sword from the horseback to chop them down, but whether he succeeded in killing them or not, he never stopped to deal with the wandering living corpses.
Amidst the frantic sprint of their spirited mount, Leon quickly noticed that the road ahead ended abruptly in the forest, like a road that had been cut off.
With no choice, the two had to dismount and continue walking through the forest.
After half a day’s walk, the trees became sparser.
As they stepped onto the undulating hills, and saw a village perpetually shrouded in smoke, Leon realized they had successfully left the edge of the Nightmare Forest.
However, as they were approaching the village, they were abruptly stopped by a villager standing on a short wooden tower by the village entrance.
“Who’s there?
Halt!”
The villager, wearing a rust-spotted chain armor, stood on the tower holding a hunting bow with an arrow nocked, but not drawn, and just frantically called out to them from a distance.
Hearing the northern accent and the Felu language from the tower, Leon felt a bit relieved.
Even though he did not know where in Orland he was, it was good enough to be out of Kantadar’s territory.
Moreover, this village seemed quite vigilant…
If only there had been villagers on watch around Selva, noticing the lights of Kantadar’s defeated army at night, maybe more people could have survived.
“I am a Knight of the Farolis Family of Kosos County.
Lower your weapon.”
Leon called out loudly, “My companion and I have unfortunately lost our way here, but we mean no harm to the village.
We will leave as soon as we clarify the direction of the road.”
