Not paying too much attention, he turned his head to look again at the body of the Flame Sun Guard, and couldn’t help but covet the equipment.

After all, he had already taken the soul of the deceased along, and now he still had a warhorse to carry heavy objects.

Wouldn’t it be a waste if he didn’t take this awesome set of armor and weapons with him?

He walked over and respectfully laid the warrior’s body flat, moved away the heavy long spear, then began skillfully trying to strip the armor from the corpse.

“You probably can’t wear that armor, you know.

Even if you take it, it could at best serve as an ornament,” said Miss Lola, who seemed to have snapped back to reality, suddenly speaking up.

Leon frowned in disappointment, “Is there some kind of safeguard on it?”

“The armor of the Flame Sun Guard is imbued with a Forbidden Magic Field; only warriors who have withstood the Spirit Trial of the fierce sun can safely use it.

If your spirit isn’t strong enough, the armor will scorch your soul like a high-temperature furnace.

If you’re not afraid, you can certainly give it a try.

Ah~ but that would be after we fulfill our agreement.

I wouldn’t want you to die from wearing this armor before you bring me back to Rolannar,” Miss Lola reminded him.

Upon hearing this, Leon reluctantly gave up the idea of wearing it.

But even if he couldn’t use it for the time being, he really didn’t want to let this treasure gather dust in the Cursed Land.

Such an exquisitely cool-looking armor would surely make quite the statement as an art piece in his collection at home.

Or, after clarifying the hazards, he could sell it to some rich, extravagant noble for a handsome sum of money.

Leon took out the Pathfinder he had finished and beckoned Kovis to bring the warhorse over.

He had the blond young man assist him, and together they carefully placed the body of the Flame Sun Guard onto the horse’s back.

It wasn’t much trouble to take the body along; they might as well carry the kind-hearted brother out for a proper burial.

Then Leon turned back, lifted the heavy and ornate Forbidden Guard’s long spear from the ground, and asked Lola, “Can I use this as well?”

“That Blazing Flame Weapon has no restrictions.

However, you still don’t know how to manipulate Magic Power, so to you, it’s at best an extraordinarily sharp ordinary polearm, and much heavier than typical weapons.”

Lola looked at Leon struggling with the weapon and suggested, “It would be more appropriate to hand it over to that boy by your side.

At least he can connect to the Autonomous Magic Control Technique within the long spear, using magic techniques to control and smash people with it.”

The gorgeously forged long spear was indeed very heavy.

After trying to handle it, Leon realized the weight was not suitable for himself as of now, his body, although well-grown for someone sixteen or seventeen, was still too young.

Reluctantly, he also secured the long spear on the horse’s back and signaled Kovis to follow; it was time for them to leave this place.

The blond youth kept up with Leon, who was leading the way with a lantern, and looked back at the companion holding a magic artifact brighter than any high-quality Magic Crystal Lamp, “Is this the thing that can get us out of the Spirit-like Field?”

Leon nodded and briefly explained the principle.

Listening to his companion’s brief explanation, Kovis found it hard to believe.

It all sounded so easy, yet he couldn’t comprehend how such a rudimentary, toy-like device could actually bind souls and exert its function.

If it were so simple, then why hadn’t those mages who adventured into the Cursed Land in the history of Athias and never returned been able to create something so straightforward?

Suppressing his curiosity and confusion, Kovis silently kept pace and followed Leon through the rough, patchy woods.

…Once they truly began to find their way, Leon realized this journey was not as pleasant as the last.

Without a Griffin to overpower the Living Corpses they encountered, they had to deal with every Undead themselves.

Fortunately, with Kovis’s spells to assist and complement him, Leon managed to fend off the enemies disoriented by the blonde youth’s telekinetic tugs, and they proceeded without too many scares.

The most dangerous encounter was with a Living Corpse tiger that had been dead who knows how many years, almost frightening the warhorse into bolting.

Leon wasn’t wearing plate armor and his head was exposed.

Considering that his leather chain armor ultimately couldn’t withstand the might of a fierce beast, he couldn’t recklessly show off his sliding tackle.

He only distracted the brainless Undead in front, allowing Kovis to find an opportunity from behind.

With what little Magic Power he had left, he successfully connected to the Flame Sun Guard’s war axe, flinging it high into the air, then plunged it down to pierce the Undead tiger’s head, nailing it to the ground.

Miss Lola was right, the Blazing Fire Long Spear was very sharp; it sliced through the tiger’s skull as smoothly as if it were cutting into tofu.

After resolving this single life-threatening obstacle, the rest of their journey was not so unlucky.

As the light in Leon’s hand grew brighter, his heart also felt more and more at ease.

They must be nearing the exit…

And as the two of them persevered through their difficult journey, the trees around them grew sparse.

Leon discovered that, although they had not yet reached the outside world, the landscape around them was becoming increasingly navigable.

As the two trekked through the wilderness, an obviously man-made, neatly constructed road appeared before them?!

Surprised, Leon waved the Spirit Lamp in his hand in all directions.

After confirming multiple times that the light indeed shone brightest on the path ahead, he suppressed the odd feeling in his heart and continued on his way.

While walking, he looked down at the stone pathway under his feet.

It was a road paved with stones more solid and flat than those built by Orland and the Kantadar people, but the easier it was to walk, the stronger his doubts became.

Ever since they stepped onto this clear path in the mountains, the light from the Pathfinder no longer shifted as before.

It was as if the Spirit Lamp pointed exactly where the road beneath his feet led.

Finally, following the road, they reached the entrance to a valley that extended downwards.

Leon looked up towards the distance.

Despite the silence and still air, the scenery before him was still profoundly striking.

The inky vault of heaven rolled with a black storm, swirling like dark clouds.

Beneath the storm’s eye, hanging bottomless in the sky, was a valley thick with trees.

Meandering rivers wrapped around mountain ridges…and there was a tidy cluster of buildings by the riverbank slope, resembling a small fortress.

And at the very back of that small fortress, against the mountainside, stood a sharp-edged, towering spire that pointed straight to the Chaotic Sky above, which revolved in silence.

“Leon…

what is this place?” Kovis looked toward his companion with a hint of unease.

The young man had a feeling that they hadn’t found a way out…

but were instead getting closer to the heart of the Spirit-like Field.

“So that’s how it is.”

Leon let out a long sigh.

He glanced at the Spirit Lamp in his hand, so bright it was almost unbearable to look at, and a wry smile appeared on his face.

“Dude…

you never wanted to leave at all, did you?!”

Suppressing the urge to curse at the Flame Sun Guard’s soul, he took a moment to rearrange his feelings and then spoke to the presence within him.

“You knew all along, didn’t you, Miss Lora?”

“…Hmm~…

I suppose.” Lora’s voice didn’t deny it.

“So, you wanted to follow this soul’s guidance and have a look?”

Leon took a deep breath and said helplessly, “Why not give me a heads-up so I can prepare mentally?

If you had just asked, I would have searched this place for you anyway.”

“I only realized halfway that his soul wasn’t pointing towards the outside world.”

Lora’s voice comforted him in a relaxed tone, “Don’t worry, there is no danger here.

On the contrary, this place might be the safest area in this domain…

Don’t just stand there, go down and take a look.

Maybe it’s even easier to get out from there.”

Leon shrugged.

What else could he do?

Owing Miss Mage so many favors, he had no choice but to go along.

He only hoped she wasn’t wrong.

Patting Kovis on the shoulder, Leon reassured his worried-looking companion, “Don’t panic, this place is very safe…”

“Are you sure?”

The blond haired youth looked up at the terrifying spectacle of the dark storm swirling in the sky and was momentarily speechless.

With his doubtful partner in tow, Leon led the horse down the stone road, crossing the stone arch bridge over the river, and arrived at the base of the fortress walls.

It wasn’t until they got close that they realized the walls, although not particularly tall, were completely smooth and even.

It was as if the entire surface was crafted from one giant, flawless boulder.

On both sides of the gate hung huge banners, displaying a red base with the same white flame emblem centered on it, just like the one on the chest of the Flame Sun Guard.

Is that really you?…

Through the eyes of her host, Lora gazed blankly at the familiar sigil on the banners.
