Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord -
Chapter 61: Sweet Torture
Chapter 61: Sweet Torture
"Why are you doing this?"
Sean sat up and leaned on the dirty wall of the cell with the chains of his shackles connected to the wall. Fear and anger were written all over his face.
"Don’t fret, Officer Devitt, I’m not doing this because you always tried to catch me in the past. In fact, I saved you from your death sentence. Everyone thinks you are dead now though," said Lauren with a bleak expression.
"What do you mean you saved me?" Now Sean was enlightened why he was in that unfamiliar dungeon. They must have taken him out of the castle by whatever means, but as much as how the act seemed like saving him, he knew there was more to it. It was the wicked princess and her husband who was a vicious lord they were talking about after all.
"You want something from me," Sean figured out.
"You are a smart man, officer. I wonder why you just wasted that brain of yours for my sister who never loved you."
"I know Eloise loves me!"
Lauren let out a bark of laughter. She thought what people said about love was right. Love could indeed make people blind.
"If she loves you then how is she marrying another man now? If she truly loves you, she won’t just stand there while believing that you were executed in front of her. Stop fooling yourself, officer." She shook her head with a disappointed look. "It’s pathetic."
Sean clenched his jaw. Although he wanted to believe that Eloise truly loved him, he started to doubt it after they talked in the chapel. And looking at the things now, if what Lauren said was true, that they saved him from execution and somebody else died in his place to make everyone believe he was dead, it proved that the woman he loved didn’t care about him. She was only using him.
"What do you want from me exactly?"
"You are not a human, aren’t you?" Lauren’s question caught Sean off guard.
The stupefied look on the officer’s face was enough for her to know the answer.
"If you are not a human, what are you then? Why are you pretending to be a simple human when you are not?"
Sean’s expression turned hard. He didn’t answer and looked away.
Alec stepped inside the cell beside Lauren and said, "Seems like you are having a hard time with your captive, dear wife."
"Look, Officer Devitt, why don’t you just answer the lady’s questions so it would spare you from unnecessary pain?"
"If you want to kill me, just do it," Sean said through gritted teeth.
Lauren’s eyes narrowed. "I wonder why you would rather die than tell us what you are. You can’t be a vampire because you don’t have vampire fangs. Does that mean you are a mage? If you are, I don’t see why there is a need to hide it."
"Perhaps a werewolf?" asked Alec.
Werewolves were considered outcasts in society. They were like normal humans but during the night when the moon was at its fullest, they would transform into huge wolves who couldn’t control themselves and would kill every living creature that would come their way. Since they were considered as untamed beasts, the Supreme House ordered the execution of every living werewolf almost ten decades ago. However, despite how most believed that they had gone extinct, some still believed that a few of them must have survived and were living in the most secluded parts of the lands to hide themselves.
"I don’t think so. Ever since I never heard of werewolves possessing special abilities. They only transform into untamed beasts, monsters who know nothing but to kill. I don’t think Eloise would put up with him if he was a useless mongrel," Lauren said.
"I will say nothing so just kill me!"
Alec’s eyes darkened at the man. "You know what, Officer Devitt, if people ask me to kill them, I take it as an invitation to torture them to death. It is an interesting thing to watch. Have you done it before? Torturing people..." he trailed off, his eyes turning crimson.
Sean shrieked in pain when the next moment, the shackles on his wrists turned as hot as molten metal.
"Stop!" Lauren said when she noticed that the pain was too much. Sean’s wrists had turned very red it looked like it would bleed.
"Why, you couldn’t bear to watch someone being tortured?" Alec shot a brow at her. Sean had stopped shrieking. "You shouldn’t be too soft-hearted, Lauren. Kind hearts were easier to take advantage of."
"It’s too early for a sweet torture. Why don’t you let me handle him my way?"
Lauren took a step closer to Sean, but not close enough for him to reach her. He was sweating bullets because of the burning pain in his wrists.
"Seeing how you shrieked in pain like a madman, I assume your body is not that durable. If you tell me what you are and how you were useful to Eloise, I might spare you some mercy because as you see, my husband doesn’t know that word. About Eloise, I don’t see why you are still protecting her when she didn’t even spare you an ounce of pity. She didn’t even bother to care about your unborn child and killed the poor little thing in her womb."
When Alec saw the shock, horror, and pain in the man’s eyes when Lauren said her last words, he realized that the princess had her own way of torturing a person. A torture that wouldn’t put one’s body in pain, but the kind that would put one’s soul in a pit of flames.
"Yes, you heard it right, Officer Devitt. Your beloved Eloise was pregnant with your unborn child but she chose to kill it. Why do you think so? Because all of those moments you shared were nothing but a pretense. That sister of mine is quite ambitious and wants the throne for herself, so what she promised you were nothing but empty promises. At the end of the day, she will marry a man of high status and you are nothing but a tool she used."
