Chapter 249: Ancient Sealing Spell
Chapter 249: Ancient Sealing Spell
"What is happening, Anthony? She keeps fainting!"
Anthony had returned the same night. Alec used his portal, so he could bring the sage back sooner. He was so worried about Lauren’s condition.
"What did you tell her when she woke up?" Anthony asked while preparing his things on the table beside the bed. He had a way to know the spell binding Lauren’s soul, but it was done through a process.
"I told her that she’s not Noelle Davis but Lauren. She looked...afraid of me," Alec felt a tinge of pain when he remembered the way Lauren looked at him. It was like he was a total stranger in her eyes, and she only wished to get away from him.
Anthony sighed. "You are too impatient, King Alec. As I’ve said, there’s a spell binding her soul which seals her magic and memories. This spell must be so strong that once it’s triggered, it attacks her mind, but it comes too strong for her to handle, that’s why she faints."
Alec’s jaw clenched. "Then I hope you can find a way to lift the spell as soon as possible."
"I’ll try my best. For the meantime, let’s see what spell is binding her soul."
Anthony pricked Lauren’s finger and got some of her blood. He put it on a platter with markings and put his palms above it, his eyes closed. A second later, his palms emitted golden light that looked like smoke dancing around his fingers. He muttered incantations, and just a minute after, he stopped.
He looked down at the platter and saw that Lauren’s blood formed a marking. His brows furrowed, and Alec was suddenly next to him, eyeing the marking, but Alec couldn’t understand what it meant.
"What is it?"
"An ancient sealing spell, a strong one." Anthony’s gaze fell on Lauren. "It is an ancient spell from centuries ago. This sealing spell, it seals the memories and magic of a person, and in Lauren’s case, the caster must have added another spell to it, hiding Lauren’s scent and changing the color of her eye to hide her identity."
"Do you know how to lift it?"
Anthony was silent for a moment. "I’ve only met one person who knew how to cast this spell, and it was Master Leighton. Unfortunately, I only know little about this spell, which doesn’t include how to break it."
Alec walked towards the window and looked beyond the barred glass, sighing heavily. He pressed his eyes shut as if he was trying to calm down and think straight.
"But you need to know, King Alec. This sealing spell, it has a defense of its own. Once you trigger the person’s memories, the more the spell will become stronger. It will grip Queen Lauren’s mind and soul, and it will inflict pain mentally. It becomes torture."
"So are you saying that I cannot do anything that will trigger her memories? If that’s the case, it means I cannot even call her by her name." Alec’s fist clenched, his eyes flickering red. His orbs were dark and frustrated.
"I suggest you stop telling her who she is while I search for a way to break the spell. Don’t tell people about this yet and don’t do anything that would trigger the spell’s defense."
It meant Alec couldn’t claim Lauren as his wife, and he would have to feign ignorance and act like he knew nothing about her real identity. The thought was atrocious for Alec, but at the same time, he acknowledged it was the only thing he could do at the moment.
"Let her continue the life she had in the past five years. Because if you keep forcing the identity she couldn’t remember on her, she will only suffer. What’s important right now is that she is alive."
Anthony was right, thought Alec. He had been praying for this miracle to happen. He could definitely wait for Lauren to regain her memories.
It was just that he didn’t like the idea of letting her live as a maid in her own castle.
After talking with Anthony, Alec made arrangements with Matthias. He brought Lauren to another room so she wouldn’t be uncomfortable later on when she woke up in the king’s bedroom again.
Lauren woke up later that night, and to her surprise, Jenny and Isabel were in the same room. They were watching her, and when she regained consciousness, their lips stretched into a smile.
"You have finally woken up, Noelle! We were so worried!"
Lauren sat up and looked around. One glance and she knew she was no longer in the king’s bedroom. Her mind was fuzzy, and she couldn’t help but question if she really was in the king’s bedroom earlier. Or was she dreaming?
"Where are we? This room cannot be in the maids’ quarters." This was way too grand.
"The king has freed us, Noelle. It has been proven that you are not impersonating the queen, and you’re innocent. They have wronged us, that’s why the king arranged special rooms for us. Sir Matthias also said that we will be given whatever we want as long as we ask," Jenny said.
"Isn’t that great?" Isabel beamed. "I really thought King Alec was heartless, but after knowing he was wrong, he was willing to set things right. That’s why I forgave him."
"But what happened back in the dungeon, Noelle?" Jenny questioned. "King Alec came after Princess Iris, and you were taken by His Majesty."
Lauren couldn’t speak for a moment. Now that she thought of it, what happened earlier must not be a dream. She was really in the king’s bedroom because the king took her out of the dungeon. And he was even addressing her by the late queen’s name.
Was he doing all of this, treating her nicely, because she had his wife’s face? But he almost killed her because he strongly believed that she was an impostor.
Soon, a maid carrying a tray of freshly cooked soup and meat arrived and said that it was for her.
"You should eat, Noelle. Sir Matthias said that you were sleeping for long hours, and you haven’t eaten anything since this morning," said Jenny.
When the servant who delivered the food left the room, Jenny asked in a low voice, "Why were you unconscious the whole day? Did King Alec torture you or something?"
"Jenny, Sir Matthias already told us. The king didn’t do anything to her. He only took her because she seemed to be in pain, and he pitied her. After all, Noelle still looks like his wife," said Isabel.
