Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord
Chapter 238: Piercing Gray Eyes

Chapter 238: Piercing Gray Eyes

"Pour me wine," the younger princess called one of her maids, and it was Jenny who came forward.

However, the bottle of wine accidentally slipped from Jenny’s hands while she was pouring it into a glass, causing the bottle to hit the glass and spill the wine onto the table and the princess’ dress.

"Oh my goodness!" Iris’ mouth widened, her eyes turning into slits angrily. "What the hell did you do?!"

Jenny picked up the wine bottle and fixed the glass but it was too late. A part of Princess Iris’ dress was now dripping wet with red wine.

"Do you know how much this dress costs? You wouldn’t be able to pay for it even if you worked for a lifetime!"

Jenny went down on her knees, her hands clamped.

"Please forgive me, Your Highness! Please forgive me! I promise not to make the same mistake again!"

Noelle and Isabel were both stunned and didn’t know what to do with their friend’s situation.

"Are you a new maid?" Queen Celeste’s discerning eyes fell on Jenny, her brows arched as if she were deeply displeased.

Back in Bodeville, Queen Celeste was known for being strict when it came to palace works. One mistake could make her mood sour.

The head maid, Isobel, had gone back to the kitchens after Matthias left, so there was no one in the dining hall courageous enough to step up and pacify the situation between the guests and the maid.

"I-I am a new maid, Your Majesty," Jenny answered. Her palms were sweating as she gripped her skirts, still on her knees.

"Why did they assign a newbie to me? Such a worthless servant!" Iris didn’t hesitate to give Jenny a hard slap.

Born into a royal family and raised by a mother like Queen Celeste, Iris didn’t usually give second chances to people, especially to lowly servants. She punished them as she pleased, and with the rumors about Alec, she thought he wouldn’t mind her hitting a servant as punishment for a mistake.

Noelle’s eyes widened. She felt like her heart was clenched when she saw what the princess did to her friend.

Jenny could do nothing but beg for forgiveness over and over again with tears flowing down her cheeks.

"I can buy you more dresses, Iris," said Luke, trying to convince his younger sister to let it go.

"No, Luke! I wore this dress for breakfast with King Alec. I haven’t seen him yet, and now the dress is ruined!"

Iris was so mad. King Andrius was about to pacify the situation since they were only guests in the palace, but Queen Celeste stopped her husband from intervening and whispered to King Andrius,

"A careless maid should be taught a lesson. I’m sure King Alec wouldn’t mind."

Iris raised her arm, ready to give Jenny another slap, when Noelle spoke in a firm tone.

"Please stop, Your Highness!"

Noelle walked to the other side of the table and stood beside Jenny. She stood a few inches taller than the young princess so she towered over her, unfazed by Iris’ fuming face.

Noelle was aware that she might get kicked out because of this, but she couldn’t stand how the princess was mistreating her friend. If she got fired after, then so be it. She would take the blow and beg the head maid to keep Jenny.

"How dare you, a lowly servant, tell me to stop!" Iris was livid. In Bodeville, she was spoiled and her mother always took her side, which was why the intervention of a mere maid sent her furious.

Dominic sighed and just ate his breakfast. The eldest princess, Seraphine, gave her father a look as if she were telling him to stop the scene. But Queen Celeste’s expression spoke about her indulgence.

"I am a princess and an important guest of your king! Don’t you know that, you dumbhead?" Iris went on. Her ire was now directed at Noelle.

"I am not disrespecting you, Your Highness. But in Evardin, we follow different rules. We have our own way of punishing the servants, and that act of yours is definitely not one of them," Noelle said, staring straight into the young princess’ eyes with unyielding grit.

Isabel who remained silent while her two friends were in a critical situation looked stunned at the way Noelle spoke. The tone of her voice held a sense of authority as if it were normal for her to speak that way.

Dominic put down the fork with a piece of meat he was about to eat. He stared at Noelle, finding her voice so similar to Lauren’s. What on earth was happening? Something must be more to this maid.

SLAP!

Noelle had worked for different employers before, and it wasn’t the first time she received a slap. She kept a straight face after getting a slap from the young princess.

"I think that is enough, Iris," Prince Luke was serious. "Even though the king is not here, we are making quite a scene early in the morning. We still have an audience. This wouldn’t do any good to your reputation as a young lady. Aren’t you supposed to be sensible?"

"These maids are at fault, brother! They don’t respect me at all!" Iris insisted. She glared at Noelle. "You! I will make sure you are severely punished! Once King Alec learns about this!"

A voice suddenly interrupted,

"Tell me, Princess Iris, what do I need to know?"

All of them turned to the double doors of the dining hall. It was only then that they realized Alec had entered the hall.

Alec’s piercing gray eyes fell on the two maids in front of Princess Iris.

His gaze went to the one on her knees first, before going to the one standing.

Alec’s footsteps halted.

Matthias who followed the king to the dining hall stood within a few feet behind Alec. He swallowed hard because he knew who Alec was staring at.

"Lauren..." mumbled Alec, and in just a split second, he was in front of Noelle, cupping her face.
