Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord
Chapter 163: Unexpected Guest (2)

Chapter 163: Unexpected Guest (2)

"Who are you trying to fool?" Amber’s icy voice made the room’s temperature turn colder than it already was.

Just when he thought he didn’t get caught... Vincent huffed a breath of disappointment. His eyes lazily darted to the woman across the room whose eyes were eyeing him sharply.

"This is a good dagger," Vincent played with the small dagger in his hand. Its hilt was made of a crystal glass with small flowers inside.

Amber raised her hand in the air and the dagger flew back to her. The soft wind it carried made the flames of the candles near Vincent’s table dance.

"Sandalwood," Amber said, looking at the few candles near Vincent. "That must be your favorite scent of candles, Lord Vincent."

"How did you know it’s me?" Although Vincent knew that the successor of the Supreme House’s chief was a very capable woman, he was not expecting this. He believed he didn’t do a single mistake and his act was flawless, yet she still caught him.

"Impersonating a king is a crime that will put you on guillotine. How brazen of you," Amber said while the dagger was swirling in the air above her index finger that was moving in a circular motion. "Your act was flawless, I couldn’t believe I was almost fooled. But then I noticed the scent of sandalwood filling the room. You must have missed how Alec disliked scented candles."

Right. Vincent also knew that but who would notice that very small detail?

"What can I say," he rose from his seat, a smirk forming on his lips. "You are truly amazing, Lady Amber. Though, I wonder why you know such a small detail about my friend... perhaps did you have a colorful past-"

"Where is he?" Amber cut him off, the look on her face told him that she was getting bored and impatient and she wouldn’t be taking any of his bullshits.

"Just somewhere," Vincent shrugged nonchalantly. "So tell me, you seem well-acquainted with Alec. What is your relationship with him?" He was truly curious and he meant to pry.

"Are you seriously asking me that now after I caught you committing a crime? Don’t you fear I might report this to the Supreme House?" Amber raised a brow. Her finger stopped moving and the dagger fell on her palm. When she gripped the dagger, it vanished from her hold, "I wonder how disappointed King Sebastian would be."

Vincent smirked. He got the glass of blood on the table he was drinking earlier. He replied after taking a sip, "It was Alec who orchestrated all of this. He seems to be an old friend of yours. This issue is enough to dethrone him. That sounds a little too harsh, don’t you think?"

"If he is an old friend, does that mean I need to spare him? Just like how you work for the court, I work for the Supreme House. We follow rules, Lord Vincent. Don’t tell me you mix work with personal life?"

Vincent laughed, "Well, sometimes I do."

Amber eyed him darkly.

Vincent shook his head, "Look, I am doing this as a favor. Alec has an urgent matter to do outside Evardin which requires him to be away for a few days. And you must know a king cannot leave his kingdom for that long. That is my presence’s purpose here. If you are his friend, you should understand his situation."

"May I know what kind of situation is that?"

"That is confidential, but I assure you it is a very crucial situation. You must give it a second thought, Lady Amber. As you see, black mages and deranged humans are stirring chaos in Evardin. This land has already enough problems. They need a king like Alec at a critical time like this. Must you put through the people in a more difficult situation?" Vincent put on a gentler expression on his face.

"A land without a king and any heir can be ruled by one of the members of the Supreme House. You must not be well-acquainted with the law, Lord Vincent."

The smirk on the man’s face was starting to annoy Amber. True, Alec was an old friend of hers but she never pardoned anyone just because they knew each other. Growing up under the care of the strict chief of the Supreme House, she was taught to value her duty more than anything else. However, she couldn’t help but agree with Vincent’s reason. Evardin was in chaos and reporting this incident to her father would mean more trouble not just for Alec but for Evardin’s people.

Before Vincent could speak, Amber bid her farewell, "Let me think about it. For now, I shall excuse myself as I no longer find this discussion relevant," she said and turned away without giving Vincent a chance to utter a word.

She no longer finds the discussion relevant? Vincent scoffed in disbelief. Wasn’t it her who came to him for a talk? The nerve of this woman.

Matthias who was waiting by the doors outside went to the office after Amber left. Seeing Vincent who was laughing all by himself, Matthias wondered what the lord was so happy about. He thought it was a good thing because it meant nothing bad transpired between him and the lady.

"Lady Amber must have failed to notice a flaw in your act, milord."

Vincent stopped laughing and looked at Matthias. His eyes slowly narrowed darkly while his lips were curved into a devious smirk. "Do you think so, Matthias?"

Matthias didn’t answer. Something was wrong with how Vincent looked at him. The lord didn’t seem to be pleased with anything at all. But why was he laughing when he went in? Matthias thought Alec was psychotic. He didn’t expect Vincent to have more twisted knots in his head.

"The moment Amber’s carriage arrived on the castle’s premises, you should have told me right away. Or you could have stopped her and said the King was out of the castle and would be back late at night. Now we are busted." Vincent put down the empty glass on the table after drinking all blood that was left in it.

"B-Busted?" Matthias’ face paled.
