Chapter 883 - 883 871 Accidentally Entering the Maze
Chapter 883: Chapter 871 “Accidentally” Entering the Maze Chapter 883: Chapter 871 “Accidentally” Entering the Maze “Dad, I’m back!” Aeolus, who had just been oppressed by the demonic aura but showed no sign of fear, escorted each of the girls back home before returning to his own house.
“Today I…” Just as Aeolus was about to share his day’s experiences with his father, he was stumped upon seeing his father’s attire.
“Dad, what is this…” Aeolus scrutinized his father, who looked starkly different than usual, and cautiously asked.
At this moment, Muria was dressed in a flashy set of gold and blue light armor, with a great bow beside him, a bloodstained long spear next to it, and a long sword laid across his knees as he sat on the sofa.
This attire was a far cry from the refined image of his father that Aeolus remembered, the man who typically sat on the sofa reading books and newspapers, giving him an odd feeling.
“Back already.” Noticing his son’s gaze, Muria spoke with a calm demeanor, “You’re curious about my outfit, aren’t you?”
“Yeah!” Aeolus nodded vigorously, admitting to himself that his curiosity was at its peak. Clearly, judging by his father’s appearance, it seemed he had gone out on some sort of adventure and had just returned.
“It’s nothing much, I just took a little trip to the underground maze beside the city!” Muria stated nonchalantly, enjoying the look in his son’s eyes.
“The underground maze!” On hearing that his father had visited the underground maze, Aeolus’s eyes lit up with excitement. Even in school, he often heard various stories about the underground maze from outside sources.
According to what his teacher had explained, the underground maze was a unique feature of the Senapus Subcontinent. In that place, no matter who you were or what race you belonged to, you could encounter opportunities that had the potential to change your destiny.
Weapons, equipment, secret techniques, treasures, inheritance… The place was filled with endless possibilities. An ordinary adventurer could skyrocket to fame and power on obtaining a secretive inheritance from within, becoming a formidable force to be reckoned with.
The underground maze was a place where miracles were born. Since the discovery of the first maze 11 years ago, countless adventurers from the lower strata had sky-rocketed to success with their findings within the maze, completely altering their destinies.
“Dad, is it true what they say about the maze, that it’s filled with monsters guarding treasures? And that killing them will yield treasures?” Aeolus asked, his curiosity piqued.
“Partly true, partly false! There are indeed many monsters in the maze, but killing them doesn’t always lead to rewards. However, according to the information that’s been disclosed, if you can defeat the strongest of the lordly monsters in the maze, you’re guaranteed a reward!”
Glancing at his son whose curiosity was now overflowing, Muria’s tone remained even. He could see that his son was completely captivated by the maze.
But that wasn’t surprising. To any being unwilling to settle for mediocrity, the underground mazes in the Senapus Subcontinent were imbued with a deadly and irresistible allure. It was by leveraging these that the Senapus Subcontinent, after the sweeping wars, had recovered its population and resources at a staggering pace.
“So, Father, in that maze you visited, did you see the lordly monster?”
“I did, a very strong monster!”
“How strong?”
“Strong enough to blow you away with a single breath!”
“…” Listening to his father’s description of the monster, Aeolus couldn’t help but crack a sheepish smile. Yet, he quickly followed with another question, “Father, did you challenge that lordly monster you encountered?”
“No challenge, just a glance and then I left!” Muria replied plainly. He indeed didn’t challenge the monster but had a thorough conversation with it, giving it some instructions to keep in mind.
“Then did you gain anything from your trip into the maze this time?”
“A gain? Of course. It’s not like me to come back empty-handed from a trip to the maze.” Muria laughed, then pulled out a semi-transparent amulet about the size of a palm from his chest and tossed it onto the table.
“What is this?” Seeing the object his father claimed to have brought back from the maze, Aeolus’s eyes filled with curiosity. He stepped forward, wanting to pick it up and look it over.
“An amulet of unknown purpose. What exactly does it do? I don’t know yet; it needs to be appraised by a specialist at the auction house.” Muria swatted his son’s hand away from the amulet, “Don’t touch unknown items brought back from the maze; it’s common sense. Didn’t your teachers at school teach you that?”
“This, I have mentioned before.” Aeolus retracted his hand with an embarrassed smile after his palm was slapped away.
In the general knowledge class at school, the teacher had gone into great detail about the maze and various items brought out from it.
They could be rare alien treasures, or items of heritage for certain special professions, and, at the same time, they could be ominous items with curses… Simply put, before confirmation, one should not touch items from the maze recklessly. They could either shoot you into the sky or cause you to fall from grace.
“If you know that, then don’t just touch them willy-nilly!”
“But Dad, aren’t you able to touch them casually?”
“Am I the same as you?” Muria glared at his son, whose curiosity knew no bounds, “I can have a chat with the maze’s lord monster, while you can’t even get through the gate of the maze!”
“Hehe!” Aeolus scratched his head. He took his father’s claim of talking to the lord monster as nothing but a boast, “Isn’t the maze accessible to everyone? There are no restrictions!”
“Heh, sure, there are no restrictions on the maze’s gate; even commoners without any extraordinary powers can enter. But while you may have the fate to enter, you must also have the fate to come out. With your current state, even the maze’s gatekeeper monsters could take you down five at a stretch!”
Muria glanced at his son. If it were not for the seal, he could have made a foray into the Holy Flame City’s maze. However, after being sealed, given his current fighting Qi that was about to break through to silver, if he truly dared to force his way into the maze, he would certainly be pummeled into the ground by the monsters.
…Three days later, in the dead of night, Aeolus, wearing his pajamas, sneaked down from the second floor and then began to scout the living room.
During the daytime, his father had brought back an identification report regarding the amulet brought from the maze. Aeolus had secretly read the report. According to the appraiser, the amulet was nothing more than a common illumination charm.
In Holy Flame City, where magic-guided sunlight lamps were completely popularized, an illumination charm was nothing but a useless trinket. Therefore, his father had carelessly tossed the charm in a drawer in the living room.
The reason Aeolus was sneaking around at this time to look for the charm was that he felt this amulet was definitely more than a simple illumination item. He had no evidence; it was just a gut feeling.
“Found it!” Relying on the impression from the daytime, Aeolus quickly located the amulet that emitted a faint white light. Holding the amulet, he quietly returned to his room.
“What exactly is this amulet?” Sitting on his bed, Aeolus fidgeted with the amulet in his hand, showing signs of irritability. He felt the amulet was definitely not a trifle, but he couldn’t find anything special about it.
“Could this be a hidden item of heritage?” Aeolus guessed excitedly. He had heard plenty of such stories—heritages of certain professions were deliberately hidden within seemingly inconspicuous items, and only specific individuals could activate them and gain the inheritance inside.
As Aeolus focused on the diamond-shaped amulet, a red light appeared on it, then the red light quickly spread, dyeing the entire amulet—previously aglow with a pale white light—completely red.
“What’s this…” Aeolus, not knowing what caused such a transformation in the amulet, instinctively thought of throwing it away.
However, the transformation of the amulet happened so rapidly that the moment the red light completely expelled the white light, the amulet burst forth with an even more radiant and dazzling glow, enveloping Aeolus’s slender figure within it.
…
“Bang!” In a dim and narrow space, a small figure appeared out of nowhere, crashing to the ground before a gentle white light emanating from the figure’s hands dispelled the surrounding darkness.
“How did this happen?” Aeolus, feeling the cold and damp touch from the ground, quickly stood up, then looked around in bewilderment. He didn’t understand how he went from his warm and cozy little room to this miserable place.
The air quality here was terrible, a mix of rotten odor, a stench of blood, and various other odors, creating an unbearable stench that made Aeolus, who had always lived in a gentler environment, feel extremely uncomfortable.
Not allowing Aeolus much time to respond, a chill and icy sensation attacked from behind. Utilizing the skills he practiced at school, Aeolus didn’t make any unnecessary moves. With a quick sidestep, he moved away from his original spot.
After quickly changing his position, Aeolus saw clearly what attacked him—a half-transparent female figure radiating green light with a contorted face.
“Ghosts!” Seeing this soul entity, Aeolus quickly identified the type of monster. He had seen these low-level undead monsters in school, but there had been a teacher guarding them at that time, and now, he was all alone.
