King of Titans and Dragons -
Chapter 798 - 798 787 Of course the strong one should choose
Chapter 798: Chapter 787: Of course, the strong one should choose everything! Chapter 798: Chapter 787: Of course, the strong one should choose everything! “What on earth are you doing? Can’t you properly activate your mech’s aft wing jets to reduce the impact of landing? You thought it’s necessary to make a flashy entrance, but who do you think would even see you besides the local defense forces?
Do you know how many buildings you’ve destroyed with that landing? Do you have any idea how much direct economic loss you’ve caused? How much will it cost to rebuild after the war?”
Lying in the cockpit of the Mech, controlling it through his neurons, Fage, the pilot, couldn’t help but curl his mouth into a bitter smile upon hearing the scolding coming through the communication line.
He, too, wanted to follow the scolding instructions relayed by headquarters and use his wing jets to reduce the kinetic impact of emergency landing, thus minimizing damage to nearby buildings.
But just as Fage was about to land, he felt an ominous presence. This sense of dread made him shudder as if there were a Superpower Beast in the vicinity capable of crushing him with ease.
This strange feeling caused a moment of distraction, which cost him the golden chance to mitigate the impact of landing, thus inflicting massive destruction on the city and even minor damage to his Mech, although the latter had been automatically repaired.
“If you don’t want to be punished, then pull out all the stops. Use the Aurora to kill the Laser Dragon Turtle in front of you. This Superpower Beast has destroyed three of our cities already. We cannot afford to let it go anymore.”
“Three cities? I will put on full effort to kill it.”
After hearing of the damage and casualties caused by the Superpower Beast in front of him, Mech Pilot Fage responded in a composed tone, looking at the Dragon Turtle with a deadly gaze.
Roar! The Laser Dragon Turtle glared at the mech in front of it and let out an angry roar. It remembered how similar beasts had brutally murdered its parents when it was a child, so it held a deep-seated hatred for these insignificant humans.
It swung its Python-like tail up in front of it, then the tail’s tip spread out like a flower petal aiming at the mech before a violent energy disturbance began to spread from within. Then, without giving the mech any time to react, a white-hot ray shot out, aiming straight for the mech.
Boom! The primarily golden Aurora extended its arm, and a Light Energy Shield immediately unfolded on it, blocking this powerful laser gun blast but being forced back by the impact of the laser.
Roar! After seeing its own attack blocked, the Laser Dragon Turtle let out an annoyed roar. Its long tail swelled up, and the laser gun shot out from it got even thicker and darker.
“I’m not here to be a target.” Fage snorted angrily. He controlled the Mech adroitly and cleverly maneuvered around the laser gun without taking it head-on. Without the Aurora covering it, the laser raced through more than ten buildings before disappearing into the sky.
Fage disregarded the destruction; the city was empty as its inhabitants had been already evacuated. In this world where Superpower Beasts roam freely, every Tidal Person had developed an adept ability to seek refuge in emergencies.
Controlling the Aurora as adroitly as his own body, Fage moved swiftly towards the Dragon Turtle. His afterburners left a streak of light behind, resembling a rainbow. He pulled out the Greatsword from his back and struck it down onto the Dragon Turtle’s head which was unable to retract in time.
Clang! When the Ship-slicing Blade, capable of easily tearing apart steel, hit the Dragon Turtle’s head armor, it created a clear metallic ring. The strike only left a shallow scar on the beast’s head and a tiny trickle of Blood seeped out from the cut.
“Your head is so hard!” Upon seeing the effect of his strike, Fage couldn’t help being slightly annoyed. No wonder it was called a Dragon Turtle, its defense was unmatched, and it was no surprise that it could still rampage around after destroying three cities without being killed.
“Quick resolution seems impossible; Looks like I’ll have to wear it down.” Understanding the defensive power of this Superpower Beast from his probing strike, Fage quickly composed himself. Fighting a battle of attrition was his advantage on home ground.
“My only concern is how many buildings will have to be destroyed in this battle. After it’s finished, the commander will surely scold me again.”
Boom! The giant tail of the Dragon Turtle forcefully struck the ground where the Aurora had stood seconds ago, instantly splitting the hard concrete ground, causing a deep pit. The Aurora had already dodged the attack in time.
Even though his mech was made of stout steel, engaging a Superpower Beast in a contest of strength would be unwise. After all, the Tidal People had only managed to produce a few mechs capable of contesting Superpower Beasts in strength.
A war of attrition that Fage conjectured would last several days began, but less than half an hour into the conflict, a woman’s shrill scream echoed amidst the clamor of the war zone.
Fage looked down, controlling his mech. Thanks to his neural connection to the mech, he clearly saw a woman with her child amid the ruins of destroyed buildings through the Mech’s eyes.
She looked terrified but also hopeful as she looked up at the Aurora. In the propaganda, Beast Hunting Mechs were the heroes protecting the Tidal People. Their presence meant no fear from the danger imposed by Superpower Beasts.
As Fage was preparing to dodge the Laser Dragon Turtle’s impending attack, while at the same time rescuing the mother and daughter who for some reason hadn’t been evacuated in time, a harsh order from the headquarters echoed in his ears.
“Don’t move, block this laser gun shot, give up on that mother-daughter pair.”
“Why?” Mecha pilot Fage asked somewhat angrily.
“There is an entrance to an underground shelter less than a hundred meters behind you. If you dodge, this dragon turtle’s attack will destroy the entrance to the shelter. At that time, nearly ten thousand residents in the shelter will be exposed to this superpower beast, and you know what would happen to the people in the shelter then!”
A shocking piece of news entered his ears, making him quietly silent, and the movement to rescue was also stopped. This was the inconvenience of fighting in the city. He needed to consider too many things.
“Ignore that mother-daughter pair, their current situation is their own fault. When the tremor happened, they should have immediately entered the shelter. Aurora, don’t let them disrupt your combat rhythm, and definitely don’t let the superpower beast attack the shelter entrance behind you.”
“You mean to let me watch them get killed by this monster’s cannon fire?”
“You have no choice.” A cold voice came out of the communicator, with a hint of disappointment in it.
As a warrior, one should remain absolutely rational and not be affected by any outside influence. Being overly emotional can lead to missed opportunities and lost advantage. Mecha masters are too young, it really wasn’t good. Young people are always too greedy, always wanting everything to be perfect.
“I can’t give up on them. I can’t let them get killed in front of me. The reason I stand here is to protect civilians like them.”
“So, you’re planning to give up on those ten thousand people behind you?”
“Of course, not.”
…
“How would you choose, human of the different world?”
Muria, who had a bird’s eye view of the battle taking place in this city, murmured to herself. This situation bears a striking resemblance to a problem she encountered before.
An oncoming train is about to hit nine people, and if you have the ability to change the track, you can switch the train to another track, saving the nine people, but on the other track, a child is playing. What kind of choice would you make?
There’s no wrong answer to this question, either choice is valid and has its own reasons. But whichever choice you make, there will be controversy because it leaves regret and makes a mistake.
If someone asked Muria this question, she would choose to stand in front of the train and stop it. In this way, the people on either track could be saved.
Of course, if the person asking insists on arguing, saying that he only has the right to switch the tracks and not the power to stop the train, he must make a choice when sacrifices are involved.
Muria chose to punch the person who asked her this question, feeling that her fists were not hard enough, or what? Always arguing with me.
Why do weak creatures practice martial arts? In order to survive in this harsh world.
What do creatures that no longer worry about the safety of their lives practice for? To obtain a better way of life.
And for beings who already stand at heights others spend a lifetime struggling to reach, why do they still practice? In order to have no regrets, to turn all the seemingly unrealistic fantasies in their heads into reality.
And so, if the result leaves one dissatisfied, then one should use one’s power to forcefully alter the outcome. If something isn’t perfect, then use power to make it so.
As long as one is strong enough, there’s nothing one can’t do. If there’s something they can’t do, then they’re simply not strong enough. Only the weak have regrets, while the strong choose to have it all. This is Muria’s current conviction.
“Let’s see what you would do?” Muria’s eyes narrowed slightly, she looked forward to seeing what kind of choice this mecha pilot would make. Of course, no matter which one, she wouldn’t be surprised, because every choice had a certain logic.
