Chapter 710 - 710 702 Why Isnt It Humans Who Came

Chapter 710: Chapter 702: Why Isn’t It Humans Who Came? Chapter 710: Chapter 702: Why Isn’t It Humans Who Came? “That should be impossible, even the Legendary Peak Great Lich can’t potentially initiate such a cataclysm that would affect the entire continent,” Muria comforted himself.

If it were his actions that led to the cataclysm erupting two hundred years in advance, he would be utterly stressed out. Although the eruption of the cataclysm was predestined, the difference between it happening prematurely and on schedule was significant.

Facing a sudden cataclysm without any preparedness on the entire subcontinent, one could hardly imagine the number of fatalities.

“Your Majesty is merciful,” the Cardinal Archbishop in the red robe was clearly overjoyed when he heard Muria’s agreement. This was the best news he had heard since learning the cataclysm was imminent.

When he requested support from some Legends he knew on other continents, the majority declined. Anyone could see that this unprecedented cataclysm instigated by Obisto, two hundred years in advance, was extraordinary—there was definitively something fishy. Unless absolutely necessary, no one would wade into these turbulent waters for a few benefits.

After all, all those who had managed to survive and reach the Legendary rank through cultivation did not do so easily. It was foolish to risk their lives for some resources that could enhance their cultivation. Whether it was resources or treasures, they had to be alive to enjoy them.

Thus, unless there was a particularly good friendship, it would be challenging for the Obisto continent to invite external support. The Legends that chose to stay were either because Obisto was their birthplace or they had other vested interests. Otherwise, many Legends would avoid it. The world was vast and there were many places to hide.

“This is your payment in advance, given by us. If you can save more humans and protect more cities, we have more rewards in store for you.”

After getting a precise response from Muria, the Cardinal Archbishop immediately gave Muria a set of coordinates.

“What is this?” Muria looked at the given coordinates with some puzzled. According to the coordinates’ computation, this location was not too far from his current position.

“Your Majesty, this is a large elemental crystal vein that we have just discovered. If nothing unexpected happens, the crystal content can reach five-hundred million cubic feet,” said the Cardinal Archbishop, grinning from ear to ear. For a being with the Dragon bloodline, it didn’t take much thought to decide what to offer.

“If that’s the case, I’ll accept it.” Muria didn’t decline and accepted straightaway. In this world, modesty wasn’t necessarily a virtue.

Seeing Muria accepting, the Cardinal Archbishop’s face broke into a relieved smile, then turned around and left. He didn’t need Muria to swear anything to him. A being with such a noble bloodline absolutely wouldn’t lie, they would fulfill whatever they had promised.

Shortly after Muria’s agreement, he began to command his Legion of Giants, controlling the floating ship, starting from Xena Pus at the center and patrolling around, assisting the local powers in suppressing the entrance to the Undead Dungeon.

“Prepare the Fireball Spell!”

On the grey fog-shrouded battlefield, the commanding general held up his machete and shouted loudly. His eyes were firmly fixed on the Skeleton Tide that emerged from the Undead Dungeon and were charging towards his legion under the cover of the grey fog.

Because of the Garrison Legion’s presence, the first target of the Undead that rushed out from the Undead Dungeon was them. The flesh and souls of the living bore irresistible temptation to them.

“Attack!” At the command, dozens of sporadic fireballs managed to form a line barely and smashed into the invading Skeleton Nest. The resulting explosion scattered flames wide, turning hundreds of front-line skeletons into charred remains.

The general frowned at this scene as the damage was far less than he had anticipated. He glanced at the dozen or so accompanying mages in his army and, noticing their pale faces and the empty potion bottles at their feet, he said nothing more.

“Prepare the Shield Warriors! Prepare the Spearmen!” The general’s face showed a determined resolve. As he watched the skeletons rushing up from the slope below, he issued new orders.

The location of their garrison legion was specifically chosen; the entrance to the Undead Dungeon was below, and for the undead to charge up, they had to run up a slope. Though these terrains did nothing to reduce the endurance of the undead, they did moderately reduce their charging power.

“Kill!” Soon, the garrison legion made contact with the emerging skeletons. The soldiers at the front formed a temporary wall with their Tower Shields, blocking the skeleton charge. The second line of soldiers thrust their long spears imbued with basic Evolution Runes through the gaps in the shields. Still, it was unfortunate that their opponents were undead creatures that had a single Soul Fire weak point and had been strengthened; attacking anywhere other than the weak point was futile.

Soon, more skeletons from behind stepped over the bodies of their own kind, overcame the blockade of the first line of soldiers, and broke into the ranks, engaging in the most intense melee combat with the human soldiers using the Bone Swords they wielded.

Under the influence of Death Qi, the skeletons were like armored soldiers and hardly had any weak points all over their bodies. They didn’t know exhaustion, fear, or retreat.

“Don’t be afraid, don’t think of fleeing, think of our families behind us.” In this close combat, where humans had almost no advantage, some soldiers couldn’t suppress the fear rising within them and had the intention of fleeing. Seeing this, the leading general hurriedly shouted to encourage morale.

But facing death, words appeared very weak in comparison. Only a small part of the soldiers gathered the courage to continue the fight after the general’s words, while most attempted to retreat further back.

“Executioners, behead any deserters!” With the general’s command, a group of threatening-looking bruisers wielding machetes stood behind the legion, relentlessly swinging their blades towards those trying to retreat.

Seeing these menacing executioners, the deserting soldiers were driven back like a flock of sheep, while the executioners didn’t pursue since their adversaries were the undead.

The battlefield became entirely one-sided. The humans had thoroughly lost after holding out for less than an hour. Even the executioners sent in to bolster their morale were ordered to charge up by the legion commander.

In reality, if it weren’t for this Gold Rank legion commander barely holding on, the human garrison legion would have broken down long ago.

“The Leaf Army is done for.” Looking around, the surroundings were filled with an endless sea of undead. There weren’t many people standing together with him, and hardly any familiar faces from before were left.

“Where are the reinforcements? Why haven’t they come yet?” The general exclaimed in despair. He had held out here for an hour in this battle. Yet until now, the cities behind had not gathered any troops to support them.

What this legion commander didn’t know was that because of this sudden emergency, the city lord in the rear had started the city’s Defensive Array and was shivering in the city, even refusing the request of the cavalry to enter the city for aid.

“Boom!” Massive blue-white lightning fell from the sky, instantly clearing the Sea of Skeletons around the general. Then, the roar of massive beasts resounded in the sky.

Lying at the very bottom, almost crushed by skeletons, and having given up struggling, the legion commander looked up to the sky shrouded in Grey Fog. He saw a giant Riding a Giant Peng, surrounded by Thunder, appearing like a god from the legends.

This armored, purple-skinned giant held a long spear condensed from thunder, descending from the sky. Behind this giant, twenty-four giants of snowy-white skin followed. Around them, nearly four times the number of massive griffins circled.

“Finally, reinforcements have arrived!” A Thunder Spear fell directly above the legion commander and exploded instantly. The formidable spear exploded, turning into chained thunder, turning all Skeleton Undead pressing on the legion commander into bone dust.

The legion commander struggled up, looking around. All undead had been swept away except for him. Of the army he commanded, less than ten were left.

“Why aren’t the reinforcements human, but a group of giants?” Seeing the mighty giants in the sky, the legion commander couldn’t help clenching his fists as a sense of sorrow and anger welled up in his heart.

After these suddenly-arrived giants who had saved the humans glanced at the grieving humans, they didn’t even bother to descend and interact. They just left straight away…
