Chapter 623 - 623 619 The Outlier Among Alchemists
Chapter 623: Chapter 619: The Outlier Among Alchemists Chapter 623: Chapter 619: The Outlier Among Alchemists “Admit defeat, Clodia, you can’t win against Mija,” Muria’s voice echoed in the ears of the White Dragon, causing her to grip her magic staff tighter. It was a staff imbued with a small amount of legendary metal that she had forged after scouring her entire territory. It was no match for the battle sword in Michaela’s hands.
The blood of the frosty White Dragon splattered from the sky, presenting a desolate scene. But Clodia continued to refuse to concede defeat. Her dragon scales were torn apart again and again, and then, relying on her robust physique, her wounds healed time after time.
In the process, she lost a significant amount of her life force. She also endured the pain of her body being torn apart, then healed. So far, she hadn’t managed to injure Michaela even once, leaving no mark on her. However, she continued to refuse to admit defeat.
“What are you holding on to? White Dragon! Do you still have hope of defeating me in combat? Your struggle is pointless, you’ve already lost, you can’t win against me.”
Michaela, who stood tall in the sky holding her battle sword, looked at the White Dragon on the opposite side. With a calm face, she knew this was not her opponent.
“…” The Ice Queen did not respond. She was silent, waving her staff to conjure a blizzard that blanketed the sky, pressing down towards Michaela.
“So stubborn,” Muria sighed lightly on the sidelines. Although she felt a bit sorry for Clodia’s resolute refusal to surrender, she respected her decision and did not intervene in the battle.
It goes without saying that the final result of the fight was Michaelina’s victory. Muria caught the heavily injured, falling Legendary White Dragon and began healing her, with a sigh.
Michaela, seeing this, did not say much. There was at least that basic level of trust. Most importantly, she had a strong confidence in herself. Clodia, after all, was just a defeated opponent.
Next, Muria returned Clodia to her Ice Palace and began dealing with affairs of state, presiding over the distribution of war rewards and compensation for her subordinate legions who had been colonizing the otherworld.
Regardless of how easy the conquest of the otherworld seemed, the giants inevitably lost their lives. Although Muria’s side held the absolute advantage, there were still powerful beings among the Locust People capable of hurting the giants. The number of slain giants under Muria’s command had reached triple digits. When scaled up to the whole legion, however, these casualties don’t even count as fractions.
The rise of every power is built upon the bones of enemies — not just its enemies, but also its own.
While Muria was wrapping up the colonization of the otherworld and preparing to build a space-time hub, Michaela began challenging the various legends that Muria had conquered by force within Xena Pus.
Establishing her position through force, this was the most primitive, yet most effective method. After Michaela had challenged all the legends, all the residents of Xena Pus were sincerely convinced and awed by the power of their new mistress.
After settling matters related to the expeditionary war, Muria started preparing for the upcoming wars. As Michaela had brought Cloud City, Muria planned to use the Angel Reincarnation Pool within it to transform a portion of the Angels to increase the combat power of some of her human followers.
The sequence of the transformation would be determined by military achievements and contributions. First in line for transformation were the human alchemists, blacksmiths, and array masters who had dedicated their entire lives to serving Muria, willingly or by force.
As for the matter of angel reincarnation, the response in the human auxiliary profession groups was not very strong, and there were not too many humans particularly interested. This was because, led by human biological alchemists, they now held the technology to alter their bodies at any time, switching to a new body with a longer lifespan.
The reason they didn’t replace their bodies was mainly because the body, as a vessel for the soul, has a great impact on the soul. As a researcher, a caster, one must maintain a stable mental state. And most strong bloodlines find it difficult to accomplish this.
Of course, the angelic, sacred bloodline can stabilize the reincarnator’s spirit, cause changes in their body, soul, and mental power at their very core, which seems very nice at first. However, this bloodline influences the way the soul thinks, something that humans are very resistant to.
After becoming angels, many experiments would be off-limits. For instance, participating in research on body modification experiments would be out of the question. They could no longer calmly dissect various creatures with a scalpel, nor would they research curse magic, poison potions, and so on. Simply put, they would be unable to conduct any bloody or dark experiments.
So, initially not considering all these factors, upon listening to the feedback of these humans, Muria changed his command, allowing humans who were qualified to choose freely whether to become angels.
“After all this thinking, the Lich seems to be the most suited creature for research. It has a long lifespan and is also unaffected by various emotions, making it the perfect researcher,” someone said.
“It’s a proven fact that becoming an undead creature like the Lich would result in us losing our creativity as living beings over time. Without emotional ups and downs, inspiration would be lacking during research. That’s truly terrifying.”
“Actually, for those who aren’t involved in our kind of biological research, diving into the Angel Reincarnation Pool and becoming an angel wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
“I have no interest in becoming a bird-man, but I’m quite interested in becoming a Dragonkin that His Majesty mentioned, or having a giant bloodline infusion. For example, the Cloud Giants are a pretty good race. They are very composed, and infusing their bloodline wouldn’t affect our research.”
“But they’re not really eternal life beings. They only have a slight edge over us humans. Their bloodline is too weak.”
“Haven’t you thought of infusing with His Majesty’s bloodline? If we could possess His Majesty’s bloodline, that would be perfect,” a human alchemist said with longing in his eyes.
“Stop dreaming—it’s impossible. The Titan’s bloodline… Look at all these years, such a long time, and only the royal family of the Uranos Empire has achieved this. We, mere mortals, could never withstand such a high-grade bloodline from His Majesty. And do you really think His Majesty will collaborate with our research? Absolutely ridiculous. You should give up on that idea soon.”
“Alright, lads, stop discussing and return to our research. You’ve already seen the assignment—it is to research a safe and effective Dragonkin and Giant reincarnation technique that could allow multiple humans to reincarnate at the same time.”
An old man, white-haired and dressed in an alchemist’s white robe, walked in. “You’re still so young, why worry about angel reincarnation? The stronger your powers, the more knowledge you’ll master, and the more choices you’ll have. It’s too early to worry about reincarnation.”
“I also think His Majesty is being too hasty. We’re still so young!” Several “young” researchers, who were almost bald, cheerfully responded.
At this point, if someone were to walk in from outside, they’d notice that the leader of these biological alchemists was a white-haired old man standing out conspicuously among the researchers in the institute—as if an oddball. He looked totally different from the other middle-aged alchemists, but his subordinates didn’t perceive anything amiss.
