Chapter 1396: Chapter 1366: Compensation for the Rampage of the Giant Serpent Chapter 1396: Chapter 1366: Compensation for the Rampage of the Giant Serpent Above the vast and expansive plain, warriors clad in black armor stood arrayed in neat formations on the earth, their numbers resembling an indestructible Steel Great Wall.
A deadly stillness that rendered all beings silent pervaded heaven and earth; beasts ran, birds retreated, and all was quiet. Despite there being a million-strong legion arrayed, not a sound could be heard, indicating the discipline of the troops.
However, within this legion permeated an unusual aura, each face maintained an indifferent expression as if bracing for the worst case scenario.
Yet facing this somber legion were no enemies, just a radiant light connecting heaven and earth, a portal to other domains.
As time slowly passed and the sun was about to sink below the horizon, night about to fall, a series of roars emanated from the other side of the portal.
Then, in the next instant, without giving the Black Armor Legion much time to react, a surging Monster Tide burst forth from the other end of the portal and lunged at the ready army.
Puchi, Puchi!
The sounds of weapons slicing through flesh densely erupted in an instant, and a faint blood mist quietly spread at the juncture of the Monster Tide and the Black Armor Legion. The thick scent of blood enveloped the noses of the warriors in the front line, almost congealing into liquid and dripping down.
Indeed, those warriors holding Heavy Shields, forming the first line of defense of the Steel Wall, were already coated with a layer of plasma, which was merely inconspicuous due to the color of their armor.
Almost all the sources of blood were from monsters; without formation or command, they stood no chance against the well-ordered legion under mildequally matched strength.
Unless chaos overwhelmed with numbers, therein lies a chance to defeat order through sheer volume, and aptly so, the Monsters coming through the portal possessed such numbers.
The battle continued the entirety of the night, and when the sun rose again, the plain was dyed with blood, yet the war still raged on, the roars of Monsters mixing with the unrestrained angry shouts of the soldiers in the Black Armor Legion resounding over the prairie.
At this point, the legion’s vanguard had already been scattered by the numerical advantage of the Monsters, and the Black Armor Warriors were entangled in disordered combat with the Monsters, losing any significant advantage as black-clad soldiers continuously fell in pools of blood, their numbers dwindling.
However, despite a night of fighting, the surging Monster Tide showed no signs of diminishing, a blow to the defenders and a heavy blow to morale.
Without a visible hope for victory, even the best-trained soldiers faced discord.
As the sun gradually reached its zenith, the Black Armor Legion utterly collapsed, the remaining soldiers began discarding their armor, dropping their weapons and running towards the rear, but it was a fatal decision.
Monsters skilled in running or flying quickly caught up with these defeated soldiers and then devoured them amid horrific screams.
Just when the Monsters thought they had breached the defenses and could push forward unchallenged, the earth began to tremble neatly, a thin line appeared on the distant horizon.
Then this slightly whitish line gradually widened, eventually forming a neatly arrayed legion, and in the sky above, the cries of fierce birds rose intermittently, each one carrying a heavily armed knight.
Hiss, Roar!
A bloody battle unfolded again, the predominantly white-armored legion clashing fiercely with Monsters seemingly ignorant of fear, the sounds of intense combat shaking the sky.
However, this time differed from the previous battle; just as the Monsters thought to repeat their earlier victory using their numerical advantage, a purple glow spread across the sky, enveloping the Sky Dome in purple, blocking the sun and casting everything beneath the purple Sky Dome.
Subsequently, purple rain began to fall from the sky, though not heavy, merely a fine drizzle resembling cow hairs, but when this delicate rain fell, the Monsters from the portal began to weaken drastically in all aspects.
Bloodthirsty fierce wolves, tigers, and leopards under the purple rain mysteriously transformed into meek lambs, and taking advantage of this strange celestial phenomenon, the also-defeated white-armored legion turned the tables, countering the Monster Tide and even pushing the front lines near the portal, attempting to establish an unbreachable defense line.
But, it stopped there; accompanied by a fierce scream, mixing pain and endless anger, an abyssal giant mouth with a neck stretching like mountain ranges burst out from the portal, taking a chunk out of the pure-white legion’s defensive line together with the bloodied land strewn with corpses.
Without leaving any room for reaction for the remnants of the white-armored legion, huge heads one after another emerged from the portal, forcefully gnawing the surrounding earth into an abyss, and—as for the surrounding resisting legions—they too were devoured altogether.
