Chapter 1356 - 1356 1340 Turmoil of the Earth
Chapter 1356: Chapter 1340: Turmoil of the Earth Chapter 1356: Chapter 1340: Turmoil of the Earth “Indeed, it was very strong, Mr. Mu, you have no idea how perilous that battle was. At any moment, I could have been devoured by the Hundred-headed Serpent.”
“In the legends, the war wasn’t described as savagely as you say,” Muria said, with a teasing smile on his face.
The Battle of the Serpent in the legends is hardly depicted as brutal. In the various versions of the tale that spread across the lands, there is not a single description of the Deity of Slaughter looking dishevelled in battle, only his formidable courage and fearlessness.
“That is just a beautification by later generations; I am far more clear about the true nature of the war than they are.”
“That’s true, you were the protagonist of that battle,” Muria said, stroking his chin, “so then, was the Giant Serpent sealed at the center of the earth just like in the legends?”
“That part is correct.”
“Then take me there now!”
“Mr. Mu, are you so confident that you can slay the Giant Serpent? You don’t even understand the full extent of its strength.”
“That doesn’t matter. According to the myths passed down through your Domain, the Giant Serpent doesn’t possess any special powers; its only remarkable feature is its size. That’s it. I think I should still be able to handle it.”
Muria laughed. Honestly, the Giant Serpent, which is hated by all creatures, is quite innocent. It hasn’t done anything truly evil.
It simply eats and drinks, stretches its body a bit—no different from a normal snake. However, its body is just too large. Its mere existence is an original sin.
Muria was reminded of a certain tortoise that did nothing wrong, yet was slaughtered, its legs chopped off to uphold the heavens. Compared to the tortoise, the Serpent was even more blameless, although it had unintentionally brought turmoil to a Domain.
This also hinted that the legend’s depiction of the Giant Serpent’s size might not have been exaggerated; after all, just by moving, it had caused the birth of a Deity.
“Mr. Mu, the Giant Serpent isn’t only large; it also possesses a terrifying ability to regenerate. Furthermore, in the places it moves, a vast number of Monsters are spawned.”
“Hmm, these are all normal phenomena.” Muria’s expression remained unperturbed. An increase in size brings an all-around enhancement of bodily functions, not just simple largeness.
Moreover, when a body reaches a certain magnitude, it has to ascend to higher levels of life. That the Giant Serpent, feared even by Deities, possesses features akin to Epics is not surprising, rather it is to be expected.
“It would be strange if it didn’t have those abilities.”
…
“This is the center of the earth; the descriptions are spot on.” Muria couldn’t help but marvel as he looked at the vast, rolling mountains before him, which indeed were located right in the central region of the Domain.
Normally, the places mentioned in legends as the seals of Demon Beasts tend to be fabricated, and explorers seeking historical truths must scour various ancient Relics to find the correct location. However, the Divine Court Domain was somewhat different; the place sealing the mightiest Demon Beast was universally known, and any sensible child would be aware of it.
“Mr. Mu, is there a problem with this?”
“There’s no problem.” What could Muria say? Having such a crucial seal be common knowledge and having remained secure for nearly ten thousand years without any issues spoke volumes. Time had proven everything.
As Muria and the Deity of Slaughter advanced through the continuous mountain ranges, a Sword Peak reaching into the Cloud Sky appeared before them, and with it came a sharpness that seemed to cleave everything in its path.
“This must be the sword you used in your battle with the Giant Serpent,” Muria recognized instantly, discerning the nature of the Sword Peak that starkly contrasted with the surrounding landscape.
“Yes, this is the Divine Weapon Zangrong, forged by my Followers who had gathered all the resources they could muster, hoping I would wield it to slay the Giant Serpent and end the chaos. But in the end, I failed to meet their expectations.”
A look of self-reproach appeared on the Deity’s face. He always thought like this, feeling he had let down those beings who had placed their hopes in him thousands of years ago, failing to achieve the future they’d hoped for.
“I think you haven’t let them down. After all, although you did not slay the Giant Serpent, you managed to suppress it. You truly brought lasting peace to this Domain. In my opinion, you’ve performed your role as a Deity very well.”
“Still, I didn’t fulfill their expectations. I am an incompetent god. And now, I have agreed to their proposal and wish to use your strength to kill this immortal Demon.””
“That shows you’ve grown and become a qualified god. Acting within one’s capabilities is a sign of wisdom. Forcing oneself to achieve the impossible is foolish, entrusting the task to someone capable is the right choice.”
“Mr. Mu, you truly are a wise deity,” a compliment that made Muria’s eyebrows twitch involuntarily came from behind him. Without turning back, Muria sensed the presence of seven Deities with various Forms surrounding them, seemingly intentionally or unintentionally enclosing him and the Deity of Slaughter within their circle.
“Hmm?” Muria looked with slight confusion at the goddess who had voiced her admiration. She was a deity holding a disc-like object in her hands, her appearance indiscernible, shrouded in an overwhelming divine light.
“I am the Heavenly Master, Qingyin,” the goddess, who had intermediate divine strength like Muria but slightly weaker, introduced herself to Muria.
“I am the Mountain Control God…”
“The Rain Nest God…”
The newly appeared deities each introduced themselves to Muria, displaying no hint of abnormal behavior; the atmosphere on the scene was quite peaceful, devoid of any tension as if no drawn swords or cocked crossbows were present.
“Mr. Mu, it was they who joined me in sealing the Giant Serpent back in the day. Now, to release the Giant Serpent, we also need their assistance,” the God of Slaughter explained to Muria without waiting for him to ask, sharing the reason for the presence of the other True Gods here, which sounded quite reasonable.
“By the way, it’s pretty nice to have a chance to showcase my power on-site,” Muria said with a chuckle.
In response, several echoing laughs rang out, originating from several deities whose forms were monstrous. This made Muria feel rather uncomfortable.
Generally, the forms of deities tend to be close to those of the intelligent races that worship them, or at least align with their aesthetic preferences. However, this is not the case in the Eight Divine Domains.
Deities whose forms are similar to their worshiping races are in the minority; more often, deities remain as they originally were before becoming gods, without changing their forms to fit the faith, or perhaps it’s that the intelligent creatures worshiping them have no specific requirements in this regard and are rather open-minded about it.
This resulted in the worshipped deities having various forms, ranging from the exotic to the bizarre. This made Muria feel somewhat uncomfortable, like seeing a deity not far from him with a form similar to a toad, its skin covered in bumps.
Muria could tolerate interaction for a short period, but the thought of enduring such deities hopping about before him day after day was exceedingly unpleasant, something he found intolerable!
Nevertheless, it was premature to speak of this now; although the True Gods of the Eight Divine Domains were willing to join the Divine Court, that was contingent on him demonstrating the power to slay the Giant Serpent. If he could not achieve this, that would be another story.
“Mr. Mu, are you ready?”
“I am always prepared to embrace battle,” Muria looked at the eight deities, “but what about you? Are you prepared?”
To release the strongest monster that once plagued the world—even though he stood as their shield—the eight deities must consider the possibility of his defeat. Who would stand against the Giant Serpent after that? Could they reseal it? These were critical issues to contemplate.
Moreover, wars between deities cause severe environmental destruction, and in a world where divine might is unrestricted, such conflict could create cataclysmic turmoil.
“You needn’t worry about that, Mr. Mu. During the battle, please don’t hold back at all. When we joined forces to seal the Giant Serpent, we contemplated releasing it again and slaying it on the spot!” the Heavenly Master, with the highest divine power level, responded to Muria’s question with a dignified and graceful demeanor.
This deity was revered in the mortal realm as the most honored among gods, with a status above all others. In some legends, she was even referred to as the God King who rules over all creation.
The truth, however, was different. She was a rather laid-back deity who seldom intervened; she possessed the qualification to unify all deities but chose not to make it a reality, allowing the other deities to develop freely.
“Since none of you have issues, let’s proceed with the unsealing!”
Muria’s divine senses swept the surroundings, verifying the Heavenly Master’s words. Around the expanses sealing the Giant Serpent, there was nothing but boundless primordial wild jungles, devoid of any trace of human habitation.
For ten thousand years, the civilizations within this domain had intentionally or unintentionally avoided this area, which had a relic capable of housing a battlefield for combat.
“Return!”
The God of Slaughter opened his palm toward the Sword Peak reaching into the clouds, and thus, the Divine Sword, abandoned by its master and silent for nearly ten thousand years, issued a sword cry resonating through heaven and earth.
Endless sharpness broke through the dust and gravel covering the blade, revealing a Divine Sword with half its blade embedded in the earth before Muria, its blade stained red. As it appeared, a dense, malevolent aura instantly made the sky gloomy, while bright thunder flashed amidst the dark clouds.
Roar!
As the Divine Sword was gradually pulled up inch by inch from the earth, a deep and powerful roar emanated from deep within the ground, causing the land to start quaking…
