Chapter 1268 - 1268 1254 The Wealth of the Deity

Chapter 1268: Chapter 1254: The Wealth of the Deity Chapter 1268: Chapter 1254: The Wealth of the Deity “You’re supposed to be a wise man! How could you say you don’t know?” Hearing the old man’s words, Modo laughed, yet although he was laughing, there were flames burning in his eyes.

“There are too many things I don’t know, but now just one more has been added. I can’t understand how humans can be so foolishly shortsighted to such an extent?”

The old man’s helpless voice echoed within the pale white flames, everything that was happening now far exceeded his expectations, and he realized he had set his hopes too high for his own race.

Ah!!

A piercing and desperate scream suddenly rose in the silent night, and this abrupt cry immediately drew the attention of the hunters.

“What’s going on?”

“There might be a monster that has appeared.” Modo, vigilant and focused, heard more sounds; he heard the shouts of the commoners and their dying wails, and thus he changed his statement,

“No, a monster has already appeared.”

The hunters’ expressions became grave, but within this solemnity, there was an uncontrollable excitement.

“Since that’s the case, this conversation can end here. You can do what you need to do now, no need to ponder these irritating and infuriating matters anymore.”

“Mhmm.”

The man stood up, and the metal box on his back trembled slightly as a layer of red qi burst from his body, accompanied by a faint metallic ringing. A sinister aura that would send vermin fleeing began to spread.

In the slums where sewage flowed freely, a weak light seeped through the doors and windows of a large shed that had been temporarily modified, and from within it came agonizing screams that shattered the quiet of the night. Dozens of terrified commoners fled from it, panic written across their faces.

“What happened?”

The sudden disturbance caught the attention of the guard team, who had only started patrolling the slums a few days ago. Dressed in light armor and carrying steam guns, the patrol guards rushed toward the shack where the commotion arose.

“Why are you running around? Haven’t I told you before? At night, you must stay in lit areas, do not venture into unlit areas.”

Watching the commoners running aimlessly like headless flies, the patrol guards shouted at them, showing no mercy.

“Someone has turned into a monster!” Seeing the guards they deeply despised appear, the nearly crazed commoners gathered around them like they were saviors.

“Monster?” Seeing the expressions on the faces of these commoners, the heart of the patrol captain couldn’t help but feel unease, but his face showed no signs of this, he took off the steam gun that could penetrate steel from his shoulder, and with a gesture, said,

“Get in there, let’s show this so-called monster the power of our guns.”

At the captain’s command, all patrol members took their guns and charged into the shack. Then, those ready to pull the triggers of their weapons raised in their hands all froze, or rather, they were petrified by fear.

People, or rather monsters that were once people, were biting and howling at the desperate commoners; the nauseating bloody smell filled the air, and such a bloody and filthy scene frightened the ordinary city guards who typically just maintained law and order.

Such an emergency exceeded their capacity to bear and handle, but even if they couldn’t deal with it, they had to grit their teeth and move forward because the twisted, humanoid monster had now turned its gaze upon them.

“Fire!”

The last patrol captain to enter the shack, seeing the large-bodied monster with glaring bloodstains on its mouth, gave the order to attack without a second thought.

Bang! Bang! Bang…

The scorching steam filled the air, and more than ten powerful bullets blasted into the monster’s body. Beneath the gaze of the humans, filled with surprise and expectation, these weapons—chiefly made to slaughter their kind—had a decent effect on the monster.

Muscles were torn, bones shattered, and broken bone fragments scattered, with slightly corrosive tainted blood splattering to the ground. In just an instant, the ferocious monster’s terrifying body turned into nothing more than a ragged mess.

But before the humans could even cheer, the monster’s horrific wounds healed at a visibly rapid speed, defying all reason.

This scene left the ordinary members of the patrol team completely dumbfounded, their morale shattered, and just as they started to wail, preparing to flee like the previously escaped commoners, a red-glowing metal box crashed through the roof, plummeting from the sky, crushing the monster into a pulp.

“What is this?”

The patrol captain, who thought that if they didn’t run faster, they would end up as food in the mouth of monsters, saw the metal box in the house with the mysterious engravings and experienced a great shock. Everything that had just happened felt like a roller coaster ride, with unpredictable rises and falls. His mind was now a complete blank.

“What are you dawdling for? Why aren’t you hurrying to call back all the scattered commoners? Without the protection of the Exorcism Lamps, they all have the potential to be corrupted and turn into monsters.”

Modo descended from the sky with a red light, crashing into the middle of the shack and leaving two deep footprints. Then he, carrying the majesty belonging to the extraordinary, commanded these ignorant mortals.

“Who are you? By what right do you order me around?” The captain, seeing a familiar kind, albeit one seemingly in possession of incomprehensible power, showed no fear with the steam firearm in his hands.

“I told you to bring back all the people who ran away, did you not hear me? Or do you want a few dozen more of those monsters from earlier?” The man, challenged, raised an eyebrow and his authority intensified.

The patrol captain, facing the gaze of an extraordinary being, felt his breath catch for a moment. His mind cleared somewhat, and he hastily called his subordinates to find the people.

Such an existence, he seemed to have heard of it vaguely, but it was not his place to deal with it. It should be the big figures above who would take care of it. It was better for him to bow his head and obey.

“Your Honor, something’s off here! I keep feeling like something is spying on me, but I can’t find it no matter how hard I look.”

The muscular man with loose red hair was really muttering to the black-haired youth with golden pupils in front of him, glancing around from time to time, “What’s going on?”

“There is indeed a big figure here. But the so-called spying is just you being paranoid. Although I can sense that he is not in good shape, he would not stoop low enough to peep at you.”

Muria, accompanied by Auston who had transformed into human form, walked through a city that seemed to be in the steam era, though the steam technology exhibited by this city was mixed with other elements.

“What big figure?” Auston asked eagerly. He had insisted on staying outside despite the world’s laws pressing down on him, wasn’t it for the thrill brought by randomness and the unknown?

“What do you think?” Muria glanced at the Giant Dragon, who had excessively joined in the commotion. Although part of his strength was suppressed by the world laws, his inherent strength was not lacking, and he made for a very fine enforcer.

“Could it be…” Auston, recalling what Muria said about their purpose when they entered this seemingly backward world, suddenly had a brainwave and realized, “Could it be a deity?”

“What else? Apart from a being of that level, what else do you think could attract my attention?”

“A deity in this godforsaken place, tsk tsk, that’s really rare.” After confirming Muria’s purpose, Auston’s view of everything around him changed.

In the eyes of mortals, deities represent ultimate supremacy, omnipotence. But to an Ancient Dragon like him, deities signify the pinnacle of a cultivation system, beings who wield the most powerful extraordinary powers. Such beings usually possess wealth that is comparable or even beyond their power.

Generally, no Ancient Dragon would be foolish enough to covet a deity’s wealth. Even the weakest deity could easily kill an Ancient Dragon that was merely at the Legendary Realm.

But the situation was different now. Standing beside him was an Epic, able to exert his full strength anytime, anywhere. With such power, killing a problematic deity shouldn’t be too big of an issue, right?

And as the closest servant to such a being, it wouldn’t be too much for him to ask for a little soup to drink, would it? Even if the core essence of the wealth accumulated by a deity was taken, what’s left would be more than enough to gorge him.

“The more backward and ignorant the place, the easier it is for faith to breed and create deities. But ignorance is not the only way to maintain faith.”

Muria looked around indifferently; the city before him was indeed very shabby, yet it was covered by a power of a sufficiently high level, and its owner intrigued him.

“Your Honor, where is that deity? Let’s go find it now!” Auston, feeling he was entitled to share in a deity’s wealth, urged impatiently.

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know? How can you not know?” Auston started to feel agitated, “You are an Epic, after all,”

“But what I want to hunt is a god that is my equal. Although his condition is not good, it also makes him hide very deeply, making him quite difficult for me to find!”

Muria gazed up at the sky. He could see the faint power that covered the entire city, belonging to a deity.

“Interesting!”

In the vision of an Epic, Muria could see this weak Divine Power slowly strengthening, with the help of the entire city. Without doubt, this was the power of the deity’s divine role.

Jealousy, resentment, fear… Negative emotions that were useless to mortals were the best nourishment for a deity’s revival.

And a deity who derived power from these negative emotions would unquestionably become Muria’s target. A Divine Being sustained by such power was definitely an Evil God.
