Hafeez looked at the blond-haired, blue-eyed youth in front of him, who appeared somewhat frail, with an extremely unpleasant expression.
“I’ve said it before, by changing form, I can experience a wholly different life; I want to experience the life of a boy named Owen.”
“On what grounds?” Hafeez’s face twisted with anger, sadness, and a sense of powerlessness over his own weakness.
“Do I look like one of your companions to you, judging merely by appearances?”
Muria, wearing the guise of the young Owen, asked the other fledgling dragon slayers with a gentle smile.
“What’s the use of appearances alone? We all witnessed your transformation process; do you think any of us would be fooled by you?” The ancient dragon, sporting a provocative smile, was angrily shouted at by a young man who had unknowingly played the role of betrayer he mentioned.
“How hard do you think it is for me to alter your memories?” Muria kept smiling, “In my eyes, you are but a group of fragile creatures, and everything about you can be changed.”
“You can’t do this!” A young girl burst into tears upon hearing this.
“Compared to your attempts to hunt me, merely altering your memories is extremely merciful,” Muria raised his hand, and a dim light emerged.
“Rest assured, you’ll forget all about today’s terrible experience; in the altered memories, you will have successfully hunted a young dragon that had just been born not long ago, with everyone unharmed.”
As soon as Muria finished speaking, the dim light spread from his hand, covering all the humans present. Although he was not specialized in soul laws, modifying mortal memories was still within his capabilities.
…
“Owen, our performance on this dragon hunting mission was close to perfect; no casualties, just some injuries. Compared to our achievement, such losses are insignificant. We will surely receive a good number of academic points.”
“That’s right, once we return, we must thoroughly enjoy ourselves; we’ve suffered quite a lot this time.”
“Academic point rewards are just the basics; the academy should have other additional rewards, and our privileges will likely increase a lot as well. We’re no longer merely students.”
The blond-haired youth sitting on the special train lifted his head and smiled in reply, perfectly blending into his current identity.
“Let’s have a gathering; we successfully hunted a dragon this time, we could invite the student union president and the others.”
“The student union president, huh? That’s someone the student union officers might not have even seen execute missions countless times. Can we really invite such a big figure?”
“Be confident; we’ve hunted an ancient dragon species this time. If we hold a celebration with this as our reason, as long as the big figure has time, he probably wouldn’t mind attending.”
Muria easily logged onto the Cassel Academy’s intranet with Owen’s account on the tablet at hand, then browsed through various public information, noticing the student union president’s high frequency of appearance.
“That’s true! But, Owen, you seem a bit different, like something has changed.”
“Where is it different?” Muria lifted his head to look at an energetic girl who was assessing him while stroking her chin.
“I can’t put my finger on it, but I feel that something has changed.”
“It may be my aura that’s changed. This mission, for us, is like a transformation.”
“Maybe so!” The girl peered at the blond youth, who looked no different from her memories, feeling something off and even a bit fearful, but she had no idea where this inexplicable fear was coming from.
“Lisa, if you keep staring at me like that, be careful something completely unexpected might happen,” Muria said with a sunny smile, his words laden with double meaning. However, this comment was interpreted differently by the others.
“Ooh!”
A chorus of teasing erupted in the carriage, as everyone looked at Muria and Lisa with suggestive glances.
“Lisa, good choice, Owen is quite a nice boy.”
“I had my eyes on Owen for a long time and was waiting for him to chase after me. Turns out this guy has never understood my hints. Knowing this, I should be like you and make the first move.”
“Hey, bro, you’re quite charming, I hadn’t noticed before. You look meek on the outside, but now I see you are really attractive and popular with the girls.”
“My appearance may be meek, but I am quite tough when I need to be.” Muria easily blended in with the group of hormone-driven teenagers, displaying no discomfort whatsoever.
“Youth is wonderful!” At the end of the carriage, Mentor Hafeez, who had completely forgotten what had happened not long ago, sighed. Then he utilized his ability to create a barrier that completely blocked out external noise and comfortably lay down in his seat to sleep.
…
Whizz——
As the sound of the train rubbing against the tracks rose, Muria followed his companions off the train and looked around at the sparse and secretive transportation facility before him, shaking his head slightly.
He really hadn’t expected that in this world, or rather, within this region of the great world, Dragon Slayers were a profession that couldn’t be exposed to light.
The obscure existence of Dragon Slayers also reflected how far the dragons of this world had declined. In a world where virtual technology was highly advanced, the fact that dragons with extraordinary powers were not universally known proved just how miserably they were faring.
“Forget it, I’m just a stowaway who ran in to take advantage of the situation. This has nothing to do with me.”
Following his companions, Muria entered an academy with vast grounds and extremely extravagant architectural style, and the youthful atmosphere of the academy hit him full in the face.
“Life in a Nobles Academy? I’ve never experienced that before,” Muria said, watching the well-fitted school uniforms of the boys and girls coming and going, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
“I’m home!”
No sooner had they emerged from the underground station than someone looked at the familiar campus and let out a cheer from the bottom of their heart.
“The mission is over, and we have a few days of free time coming up. Tonight, you must attend the celebration banquet for our successful dragon hunt.”
“Understood.”
Once free time was announced, Muria started wandering around this special Dragon Slayer Academy. He was quite curious about this large-scale institution for training dragon hunters.
After all, in the world of Erathia, no power dared to establish such an academy—and not even in secret—for both the Platinum Dragon God and the Five Colored Dragon Empress were not to be trifled with.
A dragon slayer or two, self-taught without organization or scale, was one thing, but if there were an academy dedicated to slaying dragons, it wouldn’t just be the Dragon Kings that would take action. Even the Dragon Gods might risk law backlash, striving to send avatars or even their true forms beyond their limits to come down personally.
Yet in this world, an academy specifically targeting the Dragon Race had been established. If the dragons had but a little fighting spirit, humans wouldn’t dare to set up such a special educational institution.
“Since there are still legends of the four Dragon Kings,” Muria said, holding the mobile terminal in his hand, which displayed publicly available information from within the Dragon Slayer Academy, some of which was common knowledge for dragon slayers, but very valuable to him.
“Earth Water Wind Fire, they really have it all!” Muria searched for the legends of the Dragon Kings and then shook his head. “There probably are Dragon Kings, but they must have fallen on hard times, barely clinging to life, if they’re not already gone.”
“Ah! It’s Chairman Caesar, so handsome!”
“My male god, I can’t take it anymore, I’m going to faint, someone support me quick?”
“It’s Chairman Caesar! He’s returned from his mission.”
Amidst the excited screams of the girls and bursts of exclamations, Muria, who was collecting information, followed the sound and saw a golden-haired youth who seemed to be glowing.
Even though everyone was wearing the same uniform, the outfit had a completely different effect on the golden-haired youth. The difference was more pronounced than the contrast between a perfect-figure model and an ordinary person.
“The purity of his Dragon Blood is quite mediocre, but with such a scene, he seems to be a rather perfect, god-tier figure in all aspects,” Muria assessed the man whose hair was reflecting the golden sunlight.
“Hm?” As Muria was evaluating the Student Union President, the lion-like man with shoulder-length golden hair also noticed the distinctive gaze.
“Who is he?” the man turned and asked his Secretary, having not seen anyone in the academy look at him with such eyes for quite some time.
As for the fool who dared to shoot at him not so long ago, he was an exception, as that guy knew nothing at all.
“Owen Baxter, C-grade lineage, recently completed an assignment with his classmates, and by the looks of it, seems to have completed the mission,” the Female Secretary with a perfect S-curved figure glanced at the guy who was regarding the president with such an impolite gaze and immediately provided his information, also feeling a surge of distaste and disdain inside.
The two men had similar hair color and wore the same uniform, but in terms of temperament and appearance, the gap was as wide as between a barnyard chicken and a Phoenix, not even on the same level.
“Chairman, don’t mind him; he’s probably just inflated by having just completed his mission,” the Secretary advised.
“Is that so.” Having listened to his secretary’s explanation, Caesar nodded and continued forward with his staff, no longer paying attention to this “ordinary” student.
