Chapter 1141 - 1141 1128 The Worlds Last Defiance
Chapter 1141: Chapter 1128: The World’s Last Defiance Chapter 1141: Chapter 1128: The World’s Last Defiance “Do we not need to go up and help?”
The man stood on the shoulder of the Mountain Giant, looking at the intense battle before him, where blood fell like rain. He was somewhat stirred and asked, infected by the battlefield’s iron-blooded atmosphere.
“The Legion Commander has not issued us orders to join the battle; we can only stand here and wait for now.”
The Giant’s deep voice resounded. He watched the battlefield with a very calm expression. As an Earth attribute Giant, Mountain Giants generally had a more temperate nature, disliking battle but not fearing it.
“Uh, there’s a command structure in this war?” Upon hearing the Giant’s words, the man standing on its shoulder suddenly showed a look of surprise. No matter how he looked at it, it seemed like all the Giants and dragons were just rushing forward in a swarm and then fighting, with no signs of any command.
“Of course, there is a command; this is a war.” The Mountain Giant slightly turned its head, casting a look at the man, who was increasingly being transformed into a Half-Giant, as if he were a fool.
“But I haven’t seen a commander, nor has anyone relayed orders when the war started.”
“There is a command, but in a place you cannot see. Also, our Legion no longer needs to rely on such primitive methods as using humans to convey orders. The Legion Commander’s orders are issued through the Bloodline Resonance that resounds within our minds.”
“Bloodline Resonance?” The man was slightly startled, then realized. The being before him was an Extraordinary Being with methods of communication he couldn’t understand, which was not surprising, or rather quite normal.
“Your Bloodline was obtained through contamination; it’s too diluted, so you are unable to hear the orders that we Mountain Giants can listen to,” the Mountain Giant explained to the man.
“So, do you Mountain Giants typically serve as reserves in wars?” The man looked around at the other Mountain Giants and then at the Giant Legion fiercely battling the Wild Beast Group not far away on the battlefield.
Since all the Giants were clad in full armor, he could only see that the Giants below were different in stature from the Mountain Giants beside him, but he couldn’t discern any difference in appearance or strength.
And now, he realized that the Giants around him and those fighting on the battlefield were not the same at all.
“We Mountain Giants generally do not partake in wars. We’re present this time because the enemy is rather special. If the war turns unfavorable, we Mountain Giants might also join, but that situation will not occur.”
“So for this war, you are merely spectators.” The man showed an expression as if he had seen a ghost.
“It might be so. Maybe later we will also join the battle,” the Mountain Giant replied in a tone almost devoid of emotional fluctuation.
“What do you Mountain Giants usually do?”
“We build and repair. Under the command of Lord Muria, that’s what we Mountain Giants do, but in fact, we’re also quite capable in combat,” the Giant’s voice grew a bit heavy.
“Oh.” The man nodded, fully understanding what type of troops the group of Giants in heavy armor and wielding Heavy Weapons beside him was. They were logistics personnel; to put it a bit harshly, they didn’t even qualify as such.
“I don’t need orders from anyone, right?” the man licked his lips.
“Of course not. You came here on your own volition; no one issued you orders,” said the Giant, its orange-yellow pupils looking at the man. “Human, do you now wish to step onto the battlefield?”
“That’s exactly why I’m standing here.”
“No one will restrict your actions, but I still have to warn you. Whether you join the battle or not, it will have no significance to the war. And once you set foot on the battlefield, you will face death at any moment until you embrace death.”
“No, it does have meaning. To you, whatever a tiny Human like me does has no impact, and it’s all meaningless. But to me, and to Humans, my existence signifies that Humanity has not fallen behind in this war, and my efforts over the past few years have not been wasted.”
“Since you’ve made up your mind, then I will not persuade you further. Good luck,” the already reticent Giant, seeing the man’s determination, said no more.
“…” The man, who had been preparing to chat more with the Giant to ease his tension, twitched his facial muscles.
He hoisted up his specially made Divine Machine, then leapt from the Giant’s shoulder, through the wide gaps between the Giants that were very spacious for him, and onto the blood-soaked battlefield.
It wasn’t long before he stepped onto the thoroughly blood-soaked, wet, and muddy ground, giving off a nauseating earthy smell, that a Desolate Beast took notice of him.
It was a Desolate Beast with a body as slender as a snake but had claws like a giant lizard. However, unlike a giant lizard, this beast had only two claws, giving it an odd, disharmonious, and distorted appearance.
“Roar!”
Upon seeing the man, the eyes of the two-legged lizard Desolate Beast gleamed with an excited and brutal light. The battlefield was filled with Giants, and even the weakest among them were at least Gold Rank, none of which it could afford to provoke.
It wasn’t a proper Follower of the Evil God, merely a defective product born after countless generations of breeding by the Followers of the Evil God, weakened again and again.
Bullying humans in the world who have not mastered the power of the extraordinary was one thing, but once it faced another Epic’s minion, it didn’t even qualify as cannon fodder.
And precisely because it was so weak, when it didn’t actively attack the Mountain Giant, the giant couldn’t bother with such a trifle, considering that crushing it to death would be a waste of effort.
As the two-legged lizard felt somewhat bewildered, it finally saw a foe it could consider an enemy, that was the human standing before it, solemnly gripping a somewhat ludicrous metal weapon in his hand.
Hu-
Clutching the Divine Machine in his hand, the man slowly exhaled, marking the first time he faced a Desolate Beast with the intent to slay it through battle.
Before this, whenever he encountered a Desolate Beast, strong or weak, his only option was to flee. But now, compared with before, he had undergone a revolutionary change.
“Kill!”
Without much eye contact, both stared at each other for a split second before lunging at their opponent, ready to make the other their first battle achievement on this battlefield.
The strangely-shaped Desolate Beast propped up its winding body with two strong and powerful legs, pouncing toward the man, its gaping mouth filled with teeth sharp as knives opened wide, oozing sticky, foul-smelling saliva with a strong corrosive property, hissing as it corroded the earth.
Sizzle-
In the fleeting moment of their crossing, the man twisted his body, narrowly avoiding the Desolate Beast’s bite, while the sharp blade of the Divine Machine in his hand landed on the beast, the sound of bones and flesh being cut echoed.
Acid-like blood gushed from the wound inflicted upon the Desolate Beast, which turned its head, letting out a roar tinged with pain toward the man, its gaze growing increasingly violent and filled with a tinge of irritation.
“Roar!”
Quickly, wounded, the Desolate Beast lunged at the man again…
Huff! Huff!
Gulping down heavy breaths, the man held the now somewhat damaged Divine Machine, curled up under a corpse, his eyes filled with fear and exhaustion.
On this battlefield, he had killed the first Desolate Beast he came across without much cost. But what followed made him realize how weak and powerless he truly was.
A single blow had gravely injured him, just barely allowing him to retain some ability to move. What was despairing was that the attack which put him in this state was not even aimed at him; it was merely a glancing blow.
“The giant was right, someone like me should never step onto the battlefield,” the man said mockingly as he looked at the Divine Machine in his hands, now full of cracks.
Just now, an inadvertent brush from a powerful Desolate Beast had stricken him, and after he parried with the Divine Machine, it shattered.
Had it not been for the core of the Divine Machine being a piece of flesh with a strong vitality, it would have fallen apart long ago. But now, it wasn’t much better than being shattered; the Divine Machine was merely maintaining the appearance of a sword thanks to the core flesh.
“This place is truly forbidden territory for me,” the man reflected upon himself.
He knew the reason he stepped onto this battlefield was far from the noble cause he claimed. He was simply venting his resentment from being hunted down like a homeless dog by Desolate Beasts since the apocalypse began.
He was here for revenge because, in his mind, the Desolate Beasts would vanish from this world after this war, and then he would lose any chance for vengeance.
“First, think about how to get out alive from here,” the man contemplated. However, suddenly, he felt his lower body getting damp, and his body stiffened.
He reached out to touch his surroundings, a slightly sticky sensation rising in his heart, yet he sighed in relief—it wasn’t incontinence.
Looking down, he discovered that the ground around him had been covered in sticky fresh blood without his noticing, and this blood came from the corpse he had used as cover—a freshly fallen Mountain Giant.
“Divine Machine!”
At this moment, the man also noticed that the Divine Machine he held was undergoing a change, as this bio-weapon was drinking in the blood flowing from the Mountain Giant and continuous light was surging towards the Divine Machine from the giant’s body.
The Divine Machine was coming back to life!
This was what the man felt at the moment, as the Divine Machine, after absorbing the light and drinking the giant’s blood, began to undergo a radical transformation, looking more like a living being than a weapon.
“Hmm!” As this unprecedented mutation occurred in the Divine Machine, high in the sky, Lord Mureya, who saw everything unfolding on the battlefield, let out a light sound of surprise.
