Chapter 1124 - 1124 1111 The Genius and Mad Design
Chapter 1124: Chapter 1111: The Genius and Mad Design Chapter 1124: Chapter 1111: The Genius and Mad Design “Adaptability is truly remarkable, humans in this world have actually evolved to this extent.” Muria, staggering but already able to walk with his youthful body, exclaimed.
Ordinary human infants generally only start to walk about a year after birth, but his body had taken less than ten days to be able to walk, and he also had teeth.
“This means I don’t have to drink nutrient solution, I can eat meat now.” Muria said to a metal wall so polished it could reflect a person, then he saw his two rows of pearly white teeth.
“It’s unlikely that my case is unique.” Recalling his own performance over the past few days, which should be remarkably astonishing compared to a normal infant, Muria murmured to himself.
Because no one showed surprise at his performances, it seemed as though they considered it normal. This indicated to Muria how low humanity in this world had fallen.
Being born with the ability to stand upright, walk and even run, and also eat meat, are traits only the offspring of mammals living in the wilderness possess because they inhabit a world full of dangers and might lose their lives at any moment, hence they evolved such abilities.
Under normal circumstances, humans who had developed civilization would not need such abilities, but humans in this world have reacquired these traits.
Survival of the fittest. Harsh environments eliminate all life forms that cannot adapt. The invasion of the Evil God rendered the world’s living conditions more severe, all humans who couldn’t adapt were eliminated, and if an entire group failed to adapt, then it would go extinct.
Time slowly passed, and Muria wasn’t in a hurry to take action because he wanted to see the weapons that humans in this world created to combat the Evil God—the Divine Machines.
So he quietly grew up as an infant within this base city, developing at a pace far exceeding that of a normal baby.
…
“Fenrir, are you nervous?” On a corridor a hundred meters above ground, a girl about one and a half meters tall played with her hair and asked the boy beside her.
“No, I’m not.”
“You’re about to choose your own Divine Machine, and if you fail, you’ll be devoured by it.”
“I won’t fail.” Muria looked through the glass window in front of him, overlooking the somewhat crowded base city below, then his gaze stretched beyond the steel walls encircling the city to the endless wilderness outside.
Glorious Base City, despite being called a city, was in essence a military fortress, filled with various weapons and energy facilities, with very few places for people to live.
Its population was just over a hundred thousand, which hardly qualified as a city for a civilization that had developed energy weapons—to call such a human settlement a city was almost laughable.
But in a post-apocalyptic world, a base city with this level of population was indeed a large city. For anyone to live within the base city meant that none were waste, all fulfilled a role.
“So confident?” The little girl laughed when she heard the boy, who was slightly younger than her, speak, “You don’t think just having the qualifications means you can control a Divine Machine, do you?”
“To control a Divine Machine, what else is needed?”
“Unwavering faith, a will to press forward, and the courage to fear nothing. Only with these can one fully control a Divine Machine without being devoured by it.”
“Fancy nonsense.” Muria commented tersely.
“Fenrir, I don’t think your will is very firm. How about coming to my room tonight? I can help you train your will,” the girl said with a smile, looking at Muria expectantly.
“Not interested.” Seeing the girl, who seemed to have entered springtime, Muria directly refused and turned to leave. He had thought she invited him out for some reason, but it turned out to be for such a trivial matter.
“Such an ignorant little brother.” The girl felt a bit annoyed at Muria who left so unceremoniously.
“Eh, Fenrir, how come you’re back so soon? Didn’t I just see you go out with Lax?”
When Muria returned to the base’s training ground, a teenager who was training spotted him walking in and expressed his surprise.
“Yes, I went out with her, but she talked to me about some time-wasting matters, so I refused and came back.”
“You could refuse that? I am impressed,” the teenager said, his faced suddenly sporting a strange expression. He naturally knew why the girl had asked Muria out.
“It’s just as well you refused. Lax is no easy person to deal with,” another older youth entered the training room and joining the conversation upon hearing their talk, looked at Muria with subtly changing eyes,
“Fenrir, if I’m not mistaken, you haven’t had any contact with the opposite sex yet, you seem to still be a virgin.”
“…” Muria began his training, too lazy to deal with the two whose minds were already filled with hormones.
“It seems the rumors are true, in that case, if you get together with Lax, you’ll be at a disadvantage, refusing her was the right choice, you deserve a better partner.”
The young man stroked his chin, starting to strategize for Muria, “Since you’re an original virgin, naturally you should be matched with an original, but we don’t seem to have many in our base that meet your standards.”
“Finding an original is too difficult, isn’t it? After mastering the Divine Machine, no one knows when they might die in battle. Everyone is enjoying themselves to the fullest, who would hold back?” A young boy nearby interjected as soon as he heard what the young man said.
“That’s not necessarily true, there are always a few who, like Fenrir, keep to themselves.”
“But as far as I know, there are no such people in our base. If you ask me, just pick anyone. There’s no need to be so picky. The reason Fenrir is like this now is mainly because he hasn’t tasted the flesh. Let him have a taste and he’ll understand.”
“No, I think that’s too much of a loss for Fenrir. Just because our base doesn’t have them doesn’t mean other bases don’t.”
“You two enough, I’m not interested in women right now, I’m only interested in the Divine Machine.” Muria’s forehead throbbed with veins as he listened to the two in front of him spouting increasingly wild nonsense.
“Cough, let’s not talk about this anymore. If we continue, our Iron Wolf Fenrir might get angry.”
“These guys…” Although Muria’s face feigned anger, he didn’t truly get emotional because he knew that whether it was the girl who had just invited him out or the two spewing dirty talk in front of him, they were all trying to distract him, helping him to relieve the nervous tension.
Although Muria knew he wouldn’t feel any pressure, others wouldn’t think the same. Just like Lax said, having potential doesn’t mean you can master the Divine Machine.
As night fell and darkness covered the land, inside the Glorious Base City, Muria, who was waiting for the notification, looked at the man standing in front of him with a calm demeanor.
“Fenrir, are you ready?”
“I’m ready.”
“Then follow me, I hope you can succeed tonight.”
Without saying much more, the officer simply conducted a routine inquiry and then turned to lead Muria into the most special place within the base city.
Passing through gate after gate, and after a series of identity nuclear inspections, Muria followed the leading officer to a position nearly three hundred meters underground, entering a vast and level space.
It was an extremely vast space. When the leading officer brought Muria to the central position, he quickly left. As Muria was surveying his surroundings, a voice sounded from an observation window almost fifty meters above his current vertical position.
“Fenrir, right?”
“Mm.” The sound of machinery operating rose, and Muria watched the walls crack open. Then, one by one, laser guns emerged from the smooth walls and aimed at him.
“Do not panic, and do not be afraid. This is a necessary procedure that every Qualifier must undergo when mastering the Divine Machine. After you stand here, there will only be two outcomes. Either you master the Divine Machine and become a hero who saves humanity, or you are consumed by the Divine Machine, mutated into a monster, and blasted to debris.”
“So, where’s my Divine Machine?” Muria looked up at the utterly non-reflective glass window in front of him and asked. His own voice echoed in the vast space.
“Interesting, you are the bravest Qualifier I’ve seen. I hope you can succeed.”
The sound of mechanical roaring started again, this time from beneath Muria’s feet. He could feel the ground under him vibrating slightly.
Then, he saw the ground in front of him split apart, and a metal platform began to rise slowly. In the middle of the platform, a weapon with a peculiar design stood erect, emitting a greedy and brutal aura.
“So this is the Divine Machine?” Muria looked at the weapon in front of him and raised his eyebrows, because this weapon felt more like a greedy monster than a cold weapon.
“Correct, this is the Divine Machine designated for you, take control of it, or be consumed by it.”
“I really want to know who designed this toy, truly audacious.” Muria stepped up onto the metal platform and reached for the weapon, primarily resembling a sword, grasped the handle of the Divine Machine, then a cold, brutal, and greedy consciousness emerged from the Divine Machine…
