Chapter 1103 - 1103 1090 The Proposal

Chapter 1103: Chapter 1090: The Proposal Chapter 1103: Chapter 1090: The Proposal Stream Mountain Country had perished, but the dark clouds of war had not dissipated from this land; instead, they had grown even more oppressive. For on this land, there were invaders from two different nations.

Before the fall of Stream Mountain Country, armies on both sides had considered each other collaborators by command of their Kings, but after the downfall of Stream Mountain Country, they once again regarded each other as competitors.

Within the military camp, a group of soldiers dressed in grey cloth chatted with one another, now was their rest time.

“We’ll soon come face to face with those madmen donned in crimson cloaks, so get your weapons sharpened!” said one of the soldiers, sharpening his sword with a whetstone as he sat cross-legged on his bedding, not lifting his head.

“Don’t talk nonsense, the higher-ups haven’t clearly said we’re going to war with the Crimson King’s army yet.”

“Isn’t war only a matter of time? Those generals above have been itching for a fight, growing crazy for it, having held back for so long, they must be impatient by now.”

“Hehe, if the generals are impatient, aren’t we brothers the same? We’ve been out here so long without a single military achievement to our names, how could we return home without any face?”

“There’s no helping it; we’ve been putting on a show with those madmen up until now. It’s a pity that those days are going to disappear into the past. The next time we meet them, I expect we’ll be hacking at each other with swords.”

“When you’re fighting them for real, be careful—those guys might not be strong, but they fight like they have nothing to lose.”

“Sigh, I can’t figure out how the Crimson King trained such a fearless army. They don’t even have a Military Merit Conferment System. What are they so desperately fighting for?”

“I don’t understand; those nations we’ve conquered called us bloodthirsty warriors, but we aren’t fond of killing; we just want military achievements, and to live.”

“Gaining a great deal of military achievement while keeping your life, that’s the most comfortable thing. Of course, on the battlefield where swords have no eyes, if your skills are inferior and you’re killed by others, there’s nothing you can do. But even if you’re facing death, having military achievements is a good thing. At the very least, my blood relatives can inherit my military achievements.”

“Hehe, I feel the same. When I went to the battlefield, I never expected to survive. If I could secure a couple of military achievements for my family, I’d be satisfied. Then, my son wouldn’t have to go hungry or cold any longer.”

“Just a couple of military achievements and you’re satisfied? You’re lacking ambition. Look at those generals; some are said to be on their way to becoming marquises. Go and find out how many generals started with the same background as us.”

“Marquis? Let’s not kid ourselves by even dreaming about it; it’s not for us soldiers to think about. Which of those generals didn’t reach their position by stepping over the corpses of hundreds of thousands?”

“Hey, if we end up fighting the Crimson King, I bet quite a few generals could become nobles out of it!”

“That’s for sure. Haven’t you thought about what we’re fighting for? The entire Stream Mountain Country’s domain, that’s huge. Even though that country wasn’t great at war, the land they occupied was really vast.”

“If we can defeat the Crimson King’s army in this war, we might even take over all the land they rule, and our Gai Nation’s borders could potentially double in size.”

“It won’t be that easy; just look at their strength. After we barely worked together a little, the Crimson King’s army wiped out Stream Mountain Country within three months. I reckon their strength is not much different from ours.”

“Not much different, what? You just don’t understand the true strength of our nation. Do you think all the forces have been dispatched right now?”

“Even if we haven’t gone all out, it seems like the Crimson King hasn’t either. I haven’t seen the legendary Crimson King make a move in this war.”

“Enough, I feel like this war is bound to happen sooner or later, but the exact timing hasn’t been announced up above. We soldiers just need to be prepared at all times; right now, just do whatever you need to do.”

Stream Mountain Country’s land, now under a strange Atmosphere, was clearly divided between the soldiers in Black Armor from Gai Nation and the White Armor, Red Robe-clad forces of the Crimson King.

Two armies that had often performed together now maintained an odd peace while staying on guard against each other. Both sides, from top to bottom, believed that conflict would arise, leading to an exceptionally fierce war.

The reason for this odd atmosphere was that neither King had issued any specific commands, and even though there were requests for a declaration of war, they were quickly rebuffed.

The opinions and thoughts of both Kings left their respective subjects perplexed, unable to comprehend why their Kings would reject their requests for battle. Could there truly be talk of peaceful coexistence with the enemy?

Just then, a troop departing from Gai Nation appeared on the former soil of Stream Mountain Country; and at that moment, everyone’s doubts found an answer.

This was a troop dressed in resplendent gear that extremely attracted attention; although they hailed from Gai Nation, they were unusually dominated by red with black as a secondary color, exuding a festive air from top to bottom.

When this troop made an appearance, wherever they passed, any army that knew their purpose, no matter which side, felt a severe shock to their worldview.

Then, the units who were aware of their objective, without exception, all temporarily relaxed their guard. Because anyone with sense, upon learning the troop’s purpose, could infer that war wouldn’t break out in the short term, and maybe, it would never resume.

“Who gave that Gai King the courage? How dare he propose to His Majesty?”

A man clad in white armor, who looked like a young man, paced angrily in a luxurious palace.

He had received news that a troop had set out from Gai Nation and was currently on territory of Stream Mountain Country, heading toward the borders of The State of Shenyang to meet the Crimson King, with the purpose of representing the Gai King in a marriage proposal to the Crimson King.

When he first learned of the troop’s mission, he felt a surge of blood, insulted, but after a bout of fury, he realized he could do nothing.

Even so, he was still extremely angry, because the Crimson King held a very special place in his heart, as a goddess high above, a Divine Being to be worshipped, but now there was a king who wanted to desecrate her.

“Cyril, why be so angry? Think carefully, there were signs of this happening earlier.” The general, wearing the same style of armor, couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene.

“You mean the coordination our army had with Gai Nation’s army in staging fake battles to deceive Stream Mountain Country?”

“Exactly. After such an event, you should have been prepared. Didn’t you find the near two-year cooperation with Gai Nation’s army, launched without any prior indication and suddenly ordered by His Majesty, very strange?”

“So, you mean to say that His Majesty and the Gai King actually knew each other a long time ago?”

“I doubt that. It’s likely they met not long ago. There might be channels of communication between these two Kings that we do not know of, and this war aimed at Stream Mountain Country is completely under their control.”

“If that’s the case, then…” The young general’s face turned unsightly, as he realized things were completely different from what he had expected.

“Could this vast marriage proposal procession also be a planned arrangement, deliberately staged for us to see? Is the outcome of the Gai King’s proposal to His Majesty already decided?”

“Most likely, yes. Otherwise, imagine how embarrassing it would be for a king to make such a spectacle and then get rejected. The Gai King must have full confidence before acting in such a manner.”

“Full confidence?” The general in white armor suddenly went pale, and his eyes glazed over. “But they are separated by such a distance, how could they possibly know each other? It shouldn’t be.”

“It is said that the Gai King is also a mighty being, invincible across the lands, just like His Majesty. Beings of such caliber are beyond our comprehension. That they know each other and we do not is not surprising.”

“But still…” The general in white armor felt he was still struggling to accept it.

“There are no buts. This outcome is actually quite good. If the Gai King can enter into matrimony with His Majesty and become a couple, then the war between us and Gai Nation can be avoided. Our two families would become one, with no further conflicts of interest, growing only stronger.”

“But the royal family would not agree to this marriage. His Majesty is the strongest talent in history.”

“Ha, you must be joking? At a time like this, you suddenly remember the royal family? Have you ever taken them seriously before? When has the royal family had the right to meddle in His Majesty’s affairs?”

“But His Majesty does respect the opinion of the royal family.”

“That’s just for show for the lower nobles. We all know that to His Majesty, the royal family is just a burden.”

“So is there no one who can stop this marriage?”

“It’s the trend of the times, Cyril, don’t be foolish and do something that would ruin your future. Various signs have already indicated that the two Kings might have reached a consensus. Unless they back out, no one can change this.”

“Sigh—”
