Chapter 1101 - 1101 1088 Rising Like the Sun
Chapter 1101: Chapter 1088: Rising Like the Sun Chapter 1101: Chapter 1088: Rising Like the Sun “Kick me for what, I was just saying. Even if My King heard it, he wouldn’t mind.”
“Whether My King minds is His concern, you as a subject have a duty to fulfill as a subject.”
“Alright, that’s not what we should be arguing about right now. We should be thinking about how to cooperate with the Inheritance King’s army and help them break through Stream Mountain Country’s defenses and take over the country in the shortest time possible.”
“It’s quite simple, the waste of Stream Mountain Country has long since relaxed their guard. Almost all the fortresses are under our control. Even those core fortresses, if we wish, can be taken down quickly as well.”
“I think all of this is not a problem, the real issue is, are we really just going to stand by and watch as we support the Inheritance King’s army’s offensive?”
“I think standing by and watching is quite nice. After all, they’re our allies. When we help them with the ‘battle,’ they treat us well, wait on us hand and foot.”
“Allies? Heh.” At the mention of this word, the generals immediately laughed mockingly.
“The people of Stream Mountain Country treat us as nothing but allies, we’re basically just their thugs. Don’t think I don’t know what those guys call us behind our backs – a bunch of uncivilized bumpkins from the Wild Land.”
“Let them look down on us. We’re not losing any flesh over it, what’s there to fear? They don’t take us seriously as allies, and we don’t take them seriously either.”
“Cough, we’ve been taking benefits from them for so long, now to turn around and stab them in the back seems somewhat unethical. So let the Inheritance King’s army handle the annihilation of Stream Mountain Country!”
“Yeah, after all, it doesn’t look good to spread that kind of news.”
“What honor and decency, all hollow talk! You two are just talking nonsense, since when do nations talk about morality between each other?”
“Exactly. Stream Mountain Country is being attacked by the Inheritance King, and they are too weak, so they ask for help from Gai Nation. If it wasn’t for this, do you think those so-called superior beings would spare a glance for us brutes from the Wild Land?”
“I believe if those bastards weren’t begging us right now, they would be even more arrogant.”
“Don’t worry, once the Inheritance King’s army pushes through, they won’t be able to keep their pride.”
…
As night fell, the deep sound of drums echoed through the camp, a reminder to the soldiers on duty that it was time to change guard.
“Those guys, not coming to change guard again!” In the desolate night wind, atop the fortress wall, a group of Stream Mountain Country soldiers who had been standing for a day waited in vain for their replacements and cursed in frustration.
“So, do we just keep waiting?”
“Wait for what? We’ve already been standing all day, our legs are sore, let’s go, off to sleep.”
“Those guys, I bet they’re probably playing cards and drinking. Even if we waited all night, no one would come to relieve us.”
“But if we leave, won’t this part of the wall be unguarded?” A soldier who seemed somewhat timid cautiously asked, “What if the Inheritance King’s soldiers come attacking?”
“What’s there to fear? It’s not the first time this has happened, what are the chances it’ll happen to us? Besides, there are those barbarians guarding below. It won’t matter if we leave; in case of any trouble, they’ll bear the brunt of it.”
“They’re just here for joint defense. We are the main force of the guard.”
“What main force? On the battlefield, those barbarians from the Wild Land are the main force, we’re just support. The same goes for this guard duty. Look at these sections of the wall, how many are seriously guarding? All just killing time like those guys.”
“This doesn’t seem right!”
“What’s not right about it? You don’t know, do you? Our country has paid so much to hire these wild folks for the battle, what they’re doing now is only fair.”
“Exactly, since our country has already paid, there’s no need for us to suffer here. Plus, we’ve already completed our task for the day. If there’s any dereliction of duty, it’s on those who haven’t come to relieve us; we have no responsibility.”
With that, the group of soldiers who hadn’t been relieved left the wall in disarray, rendering that stretch of the wall completely unguarded.
While some soldiers objected, thinking they should continue to stand guard, the majority felt they had completed their duty and saw no need to endure the cold wind.
And so, on this stretch of fortress wall shrouded by night, a strange scene unfolded. The soldiers who were supposed to stand erect and vigilant were huddled under the wall, avoiding the cold wind, some even brought blankets and wrapped themselves to sleep. In a more absurd turn, some parts of the wall were simply deserted.
And in stark contrast to this absurd scene, not far below the fortress wall, the Gai Nation’s Black Armor soldiers were lined up in neat rows, patrolling continuously throughout the night.
This was precisely why the presence of the Gai Nation soldiers encircling the outer wall of the fortress caused the Stream Mountain Country soldiers within to lower their guard, thinking that with their presence, they could rest easy. From top to bottom, they had become unbelievably lax.
“Heh, these Stream Mountain Country soldiers are really something, to make such a big blunder in such a simple alert.”
In the Gai Nation’s military camp stationed outside of the Stream Mountain Country fortress, a Black Armor officer, standing atop a watchtower and looking at the empty fortress wall, couldn’t help but laugh.
“It must be because they trust us too much!”
“Bullshit trust, they’re just lazy. When we first stationed here, didn’t you see what those guys treated us like?” the Black Armor officer said, somewhat disdainfully, upon hearing his comrade’s words.
“Sigh,” a man dressed in civilian clothes and styled like a strategist, sighed deeply and shook his head without saying much.
“What are you sighing about?”
“I’m lamenting the ancestors of Stream Mountain Country. They went through brambles and thorns, fought bloody battles to create such a great foundation, and now it’s going to be completely lost by their descendants.”
“Lamenting them for what? It’s their own damn fault. It’s their own country, and they don’t even know how to defend it. Relying on a group of foreigners like us, who else would be destroyed if not them?”
“True, but do you think our descendants might also end up like these wastes, knowing nothing but indulgence and neglecting their duties every day?”
“Get out of here with that, our descendants could never become like this.”
“No one can be certain about the future. It’s not surprising at all for some scum to appear after an Inheritance has gone on for so long.”
“Enough, I’m not discussing this with you. And I don’t have the time to chat tonight.”
“Hasn’t The Red King’s army not arrived yet? It’s a good opportunity to chat and pass the time.”
“They’re here,” the Black Armored General said, standing atop the high tower, pointing towards the distance.
In the darkness far away, Sky and earth merged into a hazy mass, indistinguishable from each other, but at the border between Sky and earth, a red line appeared, gradually spreading. The red light emitted a brilliant radiance, like the sun rising from the horizon, dyeing the Sky’s Dark Clouds into a blazing red glow.
“They’re making quite the ruckus, aren’t they? They might as well have set the time for attack during the day,” the civilian-clad strategist couldn’t help but turn his head, this was not at all like what he had anticipated.
According to his previous expectations, The Red King’s army should have silently entered the fortress with their assistance, seizing the entire Fortress with minimal cost before the Stream Mountain Country army could react.
But with the commotion now, like a sun rising, it would be impossible not to notice unless the people inside the fortress were blind.
“If we attacked during the day, it would be less imposing. At night, it has the most visual impact and can easily intimidate the enemy forces,” said the Black Armored General.
He watched the Red Tide surge from the distant horizon, stroking his chin. In his mind, with the battle standard of The Red King’s army and their coordination, taking the Stream Mountain Country Fortress was an inevitable outcome. The only difference would be the number of casualties.
Since The Red King’s army didn’t care about their own losses and chose such a conspicuous way to make an entrance, he didn’t need to worry so much.
But what the Black Armored General and his accompanying strategist didn’t expect was that, facing the surging “Red Tide,” the Stream Mountain Country Fortress behind them showed no reaction whatsoever.
“Are these people blind? How can they not notice such a big commotion?”
The sharp contrast between the noise before and after made the Black Armored General mumble to himself, and then something happened that made his eyes pop.
He saw a Stream Mountain Country soldier clad in fancy Armor, wrapped in a cape that could be used as a blanket, or simply a blanket, poke his head above the battlements to take a look outside, then quietly withdraw back, without any follow-up—the alarm Bell never sounded.
“Do these wastes think that with us here, they won’t ever have to fight again?” Seeing such an absurd sight, even the face of the civilian-clad strategist showed a hint of astonishment.
“Probably. Ever since we arrived, they basically haven’t had any wars with The Red King’s army,” answered the General.
“I’ve lived for quite some time, but this is the first time I’ve seen such an odd situation. It’s quite an education,” the strategist remarked.
The soldiers of Stream Mountain Country, stationed within the Fortress, thought that with the Gai Nation army outside, they could rest easy, completely ignoring the Red Tide that inverted day and night…
