Chapter 93 – Death and Blood

Kaden read each notification with focused attention.

From LimitBreaker... to Transcendent.

It wasn’t just a title change, it was a shift in identity. A declaration. It meant that he was no longer just breaking through the limits imposed by his rank or existence, he was transcending them. He was climbing into a new realm of being, one that wasn’t bound by the natural order.

He wasn’t simply walking the path of power anymore.

He was becoming something beyond human.

But then—

’I’m forbidden from taking any evolution quest unless I surpass all stat limits for my rank?’ Kaden raised an eyebrow, a brief flicker of curiosity in his eyes.

He didn’t mind, though.

In truth, he already intended to do just that. Surpass everything. Break through every ceiling that dared confine him.

And now, more than ever, he was curious—what would he become once he reached the end of that path?

Kaden smiled faintly, almost absentmindedly, before standing and stretching his body slowly.

"Do I need anything else?" he asked aloud, voice quiet, almost contemplative.

Because even if he could die and revive without issue... he had no intention of dying meaninglessly. Not because of sloppiness or lack of preparation. Not at the hands of a beast too weak to deserve it.

So he sat and thought.

He mapped everything he might need—artifacts, items, backups—anything to optimize his odds and make sure that if he bled, it would never be for nothing.

Then, once his mental list was complete, he turned to Little Rory.

She was just watching him silently, patiently, perched nearby like a loyal shadow.

Kaden nodded in appreciation, amused by how unbothersome she was if she wanted to.

’It seems taking care of her won’t be as annoying as I feared,’ he thought with a light smirk.

"Little Rory," he said, his voice casual but sincere, "as a beast yourself... do you think there’s anything in particular I need to prepare for this quest?"

He sat down across from her on a chair crafted entirely from hardened blood.

His control over the blood element had grown so refined he barely thought twice about manipulating it into furniture.

Little Rory tilted her head, her crow-like eyes blinking thoughtfully. She looked like she was searching deep within her mind for some long-lost wisdom.

Kaden waited.

Patient.

When her eyes lit up with sudden "understanding," Kaden leaned in slightly, expecting something profound.

"I actually don’t know, Master!" she chirped brightly.

Kaden blinked.

Then slowly, mechanically, raised his head to look at her again, just to be sure she wasn’t joking.

But her face was the picture of innocent seriousness.

He sighed.

"...Thank you for your great help, Little Rory," he said dryly, shaking his head.

To which she puffed out proudly, completely misunderstanding, thinking he was awed by her wisdom.

"Master! Don’t worry, I’ll help you greatly!" she declared, puffing her chest and patting it with one tiny wing.

Kaden stared at her.

Then blinked.

Then,

"...yes."

He had no idea what else to say.

...

Later that day, Kaden exited his house with Little Rory perched atop his head, casually strolling through the city of Asterion.

He admired the streets, the people, the pulse of the city while simultaneously purchasing every artifact and preparation he needed for the journey ahead.

He had two weeks.

But Kaden, being who he was, decided that today would be the day.

He would begin his evolution quest now.

He wore his usual black outfit, adorned with the Warborn sigil over his chest. Reditha hung confidently on the right side of his waist, and Little Rory, in her crow form, rested comfortably on his left shoulder.

The three of them moved together as one.

...

The process of leaving Asterion was the same as always. This time, however, Kaden made sure to avoid the ever-talkative Ray, the city’s overly-friendly gate guard.

Once outside, he began running but even his moderate pace was faster than a sports car back on Earth.

He was a blur. A phantom that phased in and out of view, never truly there, never truly gone.

It didn’t take long before he reached the familiar entrance to the Forest of Asterion.

It hadn’t changed.

And the moment he arrived,

DING!

[You have obtained a new quest: Evolution Quest I] fre(e)webnove.l.c.om

[Difficulty: Variable.]

[Description: This is your first evolution quest. This is the moment you embrace your truth. Embrace your desire. Go all out. Slaughter them all. Make Death and Blood so potent, so pure, so unfiltered, that these two zones will not easily recover from what you leave behind.]

A pause. Then—

[Finish this quest within one week.]

[Reward: Depends on performance.]

[Penalty: None.]

"Blood... death... blood... death..." Kaden muttered, reading the prompt. "That’s all I’ve been hearing lately."

It sounded like he was complaining.

But don’t be fooled.

You can never fully trust someone’s words, especially not someone like The Cerveau.

If you want to know how a person feels... look into their eyes. Watch their face. Study the way they hold themselves.

And right now?

Kaden’s face was twisted into a feral, vicious grin.

He didn’t look annoyed.

He looked hungry.

He stepped forward and entered the outer zone of the forest without stealth, without subtlety, and made his presence known and intentionally so.

It didn’t take long.

The fools came, one by one, then in waves.

Dozens of Awakened-rank beasts appeared, their bloodlust clear, their intentions mindless and primal. They snarled, growled, howled. They drooled as they closed in, eyes red with hunger, treating Kaden as nothing more than a walking slab of meat.

But he didn’t act.

Not yet.

He waited until he was surrounded—front, back, left, right—by beasts so insignificant he didn’t even bother to name or count them.

Then he moved.

Kaden unsheathed Reditha, his right hand closing around her hilt like it was the most natural thing in the world.

The moment the beasts saw the blade, they went berserk.

The ground shook. The wind twisted. The air thickened with killing intent so strong it pressed down on the lungs like iron.

But amidst all that chaos...

Kaden stood calm.

His mind was clean. Quiet. Not a ripple of doubt. No distraction. Only two things echoed through his thoughts:

Death and blood.

And finally, when the beasts were close enough,

Reditha began to glow, deep and crimson, as if thirsting for what was to come.

Time slowed for Kaden. His thoughts sped up. His breath deepened.

He stepped into a stance.

Then,

Slash!

"Crimson Echo."

His voice rang through the air.

And a moment later... it began to rain.

Not water.

But blood.

A bloody rain.
