Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die! -
Chapter 895: Attention to Rank-C Instance
Chapter 895: Chapter 895: Attention to Rank-C Instance
After the conversation, the female player told the two that her name was Ding Wei, and she was a psychological counselor; thanks to her unique characteristics, she made people who met her for the first time feel familiar.
"However, this feeling doesn’t affect a person’s judgment, it’s not that extreme, it just makes people who meet for the first time a bit more amiable," Ding Wei said with a smile, "Having been in the game for a long time, people can inevitably overreact occasionally. But I think meeting on a train also represents a kind of fate, why should we be hostile, when entering an instance amicably and returning home happily are also good?"
"You’re right, but not every player thinks this way," Shangguan Xi remarked with emotion, then continued, "Who knows if it’s a Cannibal Player or a killing player, you could get killed without even realizing what happened."
"I see you get along well, were you friends before?" Ding Wei glanced at Xu Huo.
Xu Huo had already finished his breakfast; he didn’t touch the fish ordered by Ding Wei, nor did he pay attention to what she was saying.
Although Shangguan Xi hadn’t eaten either, she took up the conversation, "We met at the station, Brother Xu is my senior."
Ding Wei looked quite impressed, "I’ve just been promoted to Rank-C, and I haven’t been to a Rank-C Copy yet; you are so experienced, may I ask you for some tips on handling Rank-C instances?"
Neither Xu Huo nor Shangguan Xi had any authority to speak, but Shangguan Xi unhesitatingly played the role of a teacher and started explaining based on the information from the Hall of Dimensions.
"Actually, the difference from Level D Copies isn’t huge, typically just larger areas and longer durations. Of course, the tasks are more complex. Previously, our tasks in the instances were typically specified; while in Rank-C Copies, they might not be, and to achieve high scores apart from completing the instance tasks, you can also trigger hidden tasks."
"Hidden tasks are extra points, and they also have corresponding rewards upon completion."
"However, please note that in Rank-C Copies, forming teams is allowed, so if you plan to go solo, you should be careful about being ambushed by other teams."
"So, it’s best to go through with a team. Besides, it has its benefits—a group has more strategies for easier clearance, and if a teammate is powerful, you can benefit from their high performance. Of course, the rewards from clearing the instance will have to be shared among everyone."
"The rewards from clearing instances are scarce anyway, if you team up with others, who knows how much you can get?" Ding Wei shook her head, "Money makes the mare go; I’m just afraid by then your brain matter might be splattered everywhere."
"That’s true," Shangguan Xi agreed, "You can’t leave the instance until all team members accept the distribution result, which is a large risk."
He was talking about reward distribution, which Xu Huo had experienced once in the Beheading Demon instance. They could discuss and divide the rewards, but each player had to agree and confirm it on their own panel via the Return Ticket before the instance was considered finished.
This method, while ensuring the players’ benefits, can also lead to new problems such as deliberate delays or killing for more rewards. For players, this is the last step before clearing the game.
But all these were things that could be found in the Hall of Dimensions, not necessary to learn from someone else.
"Let’s go back," Xu Huo interrupted the incessantly talking Shangguan Xi.
Shangguan Xi had not forgotten the two Cannibal Players in carriage seventeen, so he hastily got up and warned Ding Wei, "You’re not from carriage seventeen, right? Be extra careful tonight."
Ding Wei smiled as she watched the two leave, and closed the doors of the carriage. The book reappeared in her hand, its pages flipping automatically without wind and emitting a faint glow.
Turning back, Xu Huo adjusted his glasses finger lightly touching the lens before casually moving away.
Crossing carriage seventeen and returning to sixteen, Shangguan Xi shamelessly squeezed into his room, "I’m definitely not scared but since we’ve just moved up to Rank-C, it’s easy for us to become targets. It would be such a pity if we died here... Surprisingly, there are quite a few newcomers on this train."
"Are you talking about Ding Wei?" Xu Huo looked at him. "Didn’t you notice she was baiting you?"
Shangguan Xi showed surprise before responding, "But I didn’t share any significant information, that’s all from the Beneath the Dimension!"
"It’s not what you say, but how you say it," Xu Huo said. "A person’s speaking style and behaviors carry multiple meanings. Even a district with average technological development can analyze a person’s past and predict their thought logic and possible behaviors based on these two datasets—you think this won’t work in the game?"
Shangguan Xi was taken aback, "That would require instruments for analysis..."
He stopped himself mid-sentence, realizing such a Prop could easily perform this kind of analysis.
Seeing his regret, Xu Huo finally leisurely said, "Just a guess, not necessarily accurate."
Shangguan Xi clamped his mouth shut.
But soon after, he spoke anxiously, "What if she’s really targeting me!"
"Even if she can predict some of your actions, factors like time consumption, accuracy, and combat coordination are still variable—you don’t need to worry," Xu Huo reassured him.
Shangguan Xi was not reassured and sulked, "Then why did you even mention it..."
Xu Huo smiled, "Thought you were talking a bit too much."
After being frightened, Shangguan Xi left dejectedly but returned two minutes later knocking on the door with a large bag of snacks and drinks, cheerfully offering, "These are specialties from my hometown, want to try?"
Clearly, Xu Huo had no option to refuse; he didn’t just come in but casually sat on the bed slipping off his shoes.
Xu Huo leaned against the desk, scrutinizing the apparently guileless person before him.
He looked at himself; his head showed the number "6" and judging by the color, there didn’t seem to be any malice.
"How did you figure I’m not a Cannibal Player?" he directly asked.
"You caught me," Shangguan Xi seemed a bit sheepish, "It’s nothing major, just a predictive characteristic... Plus, one look at Brother Xu and you can tell he’s a good guy, really!"
After a pause, he gathered courage, "We’ve just moved up to Rank-C, we should stick together! The world still needs us to change it, how can we die halfway!"
Xu Huo thought he was a bit problematic but didn’t say much.
Of course, sharing one bed was impossible; Shangguan Xi made a bedroll at the foot of the bed.
At midnight, the small room’s door suddenly opened, and Shangguan Xi rolled over ready to fling a Prop, his hand already reaching out before he saw it was Xu Huo standing at the door. Opposite him was the Cannibal Player they hadn’t seen during the day—his face wasn’t clear as before; he appeared as if squeezed into a tiny box, his limbs twisted, his features distorted, and his exposed skin covered in bulging veins!
