Chapter 859 Xu Huo’s Hallucination
Chapter 859: Chapter 859 Xu Huo’s Hallucination
Having made it through the night, Xu Huo dropped his cards and stood up, stretching lazily, and glanced towards the rear of the carriage first.
There were people coming out to use the restroom from behind, and when the door opened, he saw several headless corpses in the corner of the carriage, some of which had various degrees of bite marks on them.
The female player had already gone ahead to open a door.
Last night, when the noise had erupted, players from the front carriage had run out, and doors were sealed to guard against them; now, those people had left.
The corridor was stained with a lot of blood, but the front carriage door was completely locked, ringing the bell brought no response, and even the windows were covered tightly.
The female player shrugged as she returned, "It can’t be that coincidental, just these three carriages behind us."
Clearly, others also doubted their speculations from yesterday.
"Ask the steward," suggested the Missing Finger player.
The burly player called over the steward, and while ordering food, he tipped him to inquire about the situation in the front carriages.
But this time the steward did not divulge the truth but said, "Stewards have professional ethics, we cannot simply share other players’ information."
The face of the burly player who had spent two thousand White Notes twitched, his hand fumbled in his pocket, seemingly hesitant about offering more money.
The steward left with a smile.
No one else in the carriage blocked or continued to query.
"What’s going on with you all?" the burly player turned back, "I am gathering information for everyone here!"
"Brother, that’s not what we meant," Xiao Xianglin spoke, "Didn’t you notice? The steward today seemed in a bad mood."
"Mood?" The burly player completely failed to associate that word with the steward.
"Trust me, observing people’s tone and color is a basic skill in my line of work," Xiao stated confidently.
"Getting him here so early in the morning with that bit of money, anyone would be unhappy," laughed the Missing Finger player.
The burly player’s face darkened, about to step away, when the female player added, "You guys aren’t going to start fighting, right? That would be great, no one is getting off until tomorrow; if by chance that person who puts everyone to sleep gets killed, we all could actually sleep well tonight."
Hearing this, the burly player retracted his step.
Killing the hypnotic player was unlikely, but it was possible everyone could end up being dealt with if too many died.
Silence fell within the carriage.
Xu Huo sat for a while before getting up to use the restroom, dragging out the body of the Moles player, and lingered before heading to the steward-only corridor.
However, he was soon stopped, the steward politely informed him that the restaurant was not available for use at the moment.
This time, Xu Huo did not tip for information but went directly back to the carriage.
Upon his return, he saw the Missing Finger player walking out, and as they faced each other, Xu Huo nodded and as they passed, the other said, "I think you look familiar, have we met before?"
Xu Huo smiled faintly, "The feeling is mutual."
The Missing Finger player also smiled, "Maybe because we both have common faces."
"It’s a bit sad when you think about it," Xu added, "The other person is somewhat an acquaintance of mine; I didn’t expect them to leave without saying hello."
Just a moment ago there was uncertainty about having met before, now turned into an acquaintance.
Knowing the other might recognize him, Xu showed no extra expression, but said, "Even real brothers can become foes in the game, let alone an acquaintance. Don’t think too much; maybe the person just purely dislikes you."
The Missing Finger player laughed heartily, "Makes sense, I’ll ask him in person next time."
Xu saw the "Friends’ Rating" number above his head jump to "9" and then drop back down, knowing this person was already plotting how to kill him.
Though they hadn’t faced each other, at the courthouse building, he had branded his prop, so he could track him immediately afterward, uncertain whether he could specifically locate Rose Castle, but before he left, Bai Kou had appeared, and this person had only shown his right hand at the castle and now was missing two fingers. If it really was the same person, it was definitely Bai Kou who had forced him into the game.
He had run away quite fast.
The right hand had traces of electric shock torture, likely from the captured Rank-C player of the Holy Sword Society.
Had the other not tried to test him, Xu might have almost believed his prop could directly lead to the train station.
Returning to his seat, Xiao immediately approached, "How did it go, brother? Did you find out anything?"
"The front restaurant is out of service," Xu replied.
"Ah?" Xiao was stunned for a moment, "You only came up with that after all this, why worry about the restaurant when it’s so dangerous."
The restaurant being out of service suggested that a fight had taken place there the previous night, intense enough that it didn’t seem like they were just groggy from sleep.
"Maybe the player who went to the front to decapitate people while they slept hasn’t come back yet," the female player said nonchalantly, fixing her makeup in the mirror.
"Brother, your hallucinations must have been strong last night," Xiao turned to him and asked, "Have you recently been injured or poisoned?"
Xu looked at him, "I don’t buy potions."
Xiao patted his shoulder, "No big deal, I’ll give you some, thanks for waking me up last night!"
He truly pulled out several bottles of potions, and pointing at one, he said, "I see you have bags under your eyes, you must not be sleeping well. This is for sleep aid— it’ll put anyone, even an Alien, to sleep till sunrise. Take it, it definitely works!"
Xu found it hard not to accept his kindness and then reciprocated by spending some money to buy two Evolution Potions.
There was no five thousand meal set for lunch today, and after a simple meal, the players began to catch up on sleep.
The carriage resumed its quiet, with only the faint sounds of the train running. But not long into the rest, Xu again felt the sensation from the previous night, and he suddenly stood up sword in hand— but this time, there was no one in front of him!
The others in the carriage were still alert, all instantly wide awake.
Rubbing his brow, Xu spoke wearily, "I haven’t been resting well lately."
"Otherwise, let’s take turns resting," proposed Xu Jinfeng, "This way, no one can rest well; not everyone is getting off tomorrow."
If they didn’t reach the station, they might have to endure two more nights. Previously, being vigilant at night was sufficient, but now they also had to resist sleep.
No one objected, and the people in the carriage took turns resting in three shifts.
Xu wore "Like Repels Like," "Mobile Metal," and "Life Core" all at once, then leaned on the table to rest.
Being on the train meant he could not truly sleep, but now his rest was unusually restless, feeling as if just closing his eyes would bring a sense of murderous intent nearby, his mind unable to relax.
He had indeed seen a shadow last night— if it wasn’t the doing of other players... could it be a side effect of the potion?
This possibility made him involuntarily furrow his brows.
But it had been a while since he took the potion, symptoms shouldn’t start appearing now unless the potion itself was defective.
