Chapter 839: Chapter 839: Getting Involved in the Fight
No sooner had the metal enshrouded part of the sphere when the player with a mask withdrew his Prop and, turning to the now melting metal, threw a white substance into it. The car began to jerk as if it were boiling, forcing the Black Epaulette to step back.
But by now, Ran Ying had already closed in. She, relying on her speed, charged straight at the masked player and swung her fist toward his face - still at a distance, but in front of her fist, several afterimages seemed to appear. Even though she didn’t actually touch the masked player, she still hit the Defense Shield he had summoned temporarily.
Ran Ying must have used a Prop, for the masked player’s shield was directly shattered. However, at that moment, a red light rose from the ground, cutting through the earth abruptly!
Ran Ying quickly retracted her hand and stepped back, but in the next second, the same red light appeared behind her. She couldn’t stop in time and collided with it, her protective suit immediately burned through.
Red lights began to appear all around her, varying in length and direction, crisscrossing and covering over like a polygonal grid that was gradually shrinking its area, continuously compressing her range of movement.
With no way out to the front, back, left, or right, the only gap was above.
The place deliberately left open surely wasn’t an easy path. As Ran Ying looked up, a balloon happened to drift above her head.
At that moment, the Black Epaulette lifted a Vacuum Cleaner Prop aimed at the balloon. But just as it started, it sputtered out. He was about to step forward when the masked player pointed at the balloon across the distance.
With a "bang," the balloon burst, unleashing a black liquid that clearly did not correspond to the size of the balloon, pouring like a water pillar into the small space created by the red light!
However, everyone present could see clearly that a second before the liquid touched her, Ran Ying had disappeared from the midst of the red light, and the next moment, she materialized behind the masked player.
And at the same time as the balloon burst, the masked player too had prepared his defense, so when Ran Ying appeared behind him, a blue light burst forth from him. Bathed in the glow, Ran Ying seemed to be stuck in the air, unable to move an inch!
"Please turn around and look at me!" the Black Epaulette shouted to the masked player.
The masked player turned around, but it wasn’t forced. He extended his right hand toward the Black Epaulette, making just a mouth shape. The next second, the Black Epaulette’s head exploded, and the masked player turned his gaze back, intending to deal with Ran Ying in the same manner.
Although Ran Ying was frozen and couldn’t step back, she wasn’t unable to speak. Looking at the masked player, she said, "Distance creates beauty."
The two were only a step apart, yet the masked player couldn’t move any closer, nor touch Ran Ying, and even some Props became ineffective.
The masked player was about to try another direction when a gust of wind blew out from the Dark Zone, carrying with it shredded buildings and tiles in a tornado that rushed toward him!
Then three Black Epaulettes appeared around him. One of the players used a Prop to nullify the masked player’s Prop, while another said, "Arrogance is an attitude!"
The masked player found himself involuntarily lifting his head, using his nostrils to face the person.
At this, Ran Ying also broke free from the effect of the Prop. She took a quick step forward and hammered the masked player along with his Defensive Prop out of the way!
The masked player crashed out along with a Black Epaulette, maintaining a certain distance, but the Black Epaulette behind couldn’t shake him off. Several Props were thrown without effect, and the chase went on with the five of them entering the building next door.
Xu Huo and Wan Tingfang were also hiding in this building, as they were temporarily unable to leave.
The players emerging from the Dark Zone weren’t limited to the few with Ran Ying; those with Black Epaulettes and the suspected Holy Sword Society players had divided into several small battlefields, nearly blocking all surrounding routes. Stepping out might land them on a Prop laid by another player, so they had to take refuge in the building for the time being.
"How did these people get in again!" Wan Tingfang complained bitterly, then turned and ran upstairs.
Xu Huo made the same choice to avoid them. Players like the Black Epaulettes and those from the Holy Sword Society couldn’t confirm whether they were all Advanced Players, but they definitely had extensive combat experience.
A prolonged battle required not just physical strength but also a good arrangement of Props and cooperation with teammates.
Neither side was easy to provoke, and there was no need to get involved.
However, leaving wasn’t so simple; Xu Huo and Wan Tingfang were quickly affected by a Prop of a Black Epaulette, uncontrollably moved to a spot ten meters away from the player.
Two Holy Sword Society players were also moved there.
Both sides were blinded by rage, not caring whether outsiders were caught up in their fight. Seeing a Black Epaulette pull out a string of microbombs, Xu Huo’s expression flickered, and he immediately shouted, "Please Sit!"
This was a room with several chairs, and as soon as he finished speaking, several players present all sat down and were pushed by the chairs to the center of the room.
Facing each other, more than half chose to start the fight immediately, but as they got up, they encountered an embarrassing issue; they couldn’t shake off the chairs, and trying to remove the Prop’s effect had no clear results. While two managed to destroy their chairs, they didn’t have enough time to disassemble every piece of wood and had to carry the wood with them.
The half-minute seating lock barely lasted ten seconds in effect.
Xu Huo promptly decided to go back and order some sturdy chairs, but for now, he also had to disregard the "host-guest relationship."
At this moment, one of the Holy Sword Society players targeted him, "There sure are a lot of dogs of Black Epaulettes!"
"Be careful!" Wan Tingfang threw a red trampoline to the side, catching the Holy Sword Society player’s Prop. The trampoline, unable to withstand the pressure, broke in two, and with a pained look, Wan Tingfang yelled, "Run now!"
With the Black Epaulettes holding the Holy Sword Society player back and leaving him no strength to chase, Xu Huo and Wan Tingfang ran out of the building, finding a gap to distance themselves from the small battlefield.
After confirming safety, Xu Huo said, "Thanks for just now."
"It’s nothing," Wan Tingfang waved a hand. "We’re friends; it’s right to help each other. But the city is too unsafe. We should run out and find a place outside the city to hide for a while."
"I wonder how Director San Yang is doing," Xu Huo hesitated. "The winds have died down. Should we go back for him?"
"Let’s not; he’s definitely much stronger than us. For all we know, he might even find us a drag." Wan Tingfang had no intention of turning back.
Xu Huo glanced at the Dark Zone, but in the end, he chose to leave the main city area with her.
Quite a few players were taking refuge at the edge of the main city area. It was relatively safe, and they could observe the situation near the Dark Zone closely.
"What good opportunity do these people think they’ll get," Wan Tingfang said mockingly. "They can’t all believe they’ll find one or two severely injured Advanced Players, can they?"
Obviously, that’s what these people were thinking.
Xu Huo didn’t plan to go far either, speaking in a low voice, "Wait and see. If there’s new information from the base, it’s best to know immediately."
