Chapter 838: Chapter 838: The Knights and the Holy Sword Society
"Where are you now?" Xu Huo immediately asked.
"Let me see..." Wan Tingfang’s voice wavered for a moment before she continued, "Head towards the Eternal Star Hotel."
She gave an address and also reminded Xu Huo it would be best to avoid those severely weathered districts.
After ending the communication, Xu Huo confirmed with Mr. Dong that the Girl in the painting had taken Xiao Yuan back before heading to the location mentioned by Wan Tingfang, and during that time, he also left a message for Shi Youzhi.
Upon arriving, he found Wan Tingfang was the only one still there.
"Director San Yang went inside there," Wan Tingfang said, observing the Dark Space with a prop telescope, "It’s no good, I can’t see anything."
Xu Huo expressed his helplessness and asked, "What’s the situation at the base?"
Wan Tingfang shrugged, "Who knows, it’s pitch dark and I can’t see anything clearly, I don’t know who’s fighting whom, but I guess the people inside the base must be hiding in the subway stations."
"I checked just now, and it seems the Holy Sword Society attacked many places in Zone 011," Xu Huo said. "This must be the work of the Holy Sword Society’s advanced players, I don’t know what they’re up to, but if this darkness can kill, the number of casualties would be huge."
"Not necessarily," Wan Tingfang said. "Didn’t we get out safely? And I wandered around inside for a while, it didn’t seem dangerous, just that I couldn’t see or hear anything."
"Most likely, the players in Zone 011 are tied up," Xu Huo pulled up the news from his contact list, "Look at this, just uploaded, the Holy Sword Society is slaughtering civilians."
Wan Tingfang quickly scrolled through the news and, apart from text cursing the Holy Sword Society, there was no more valuable information. She shook her head, "It could also be other players taking advantage of the chaos, there are plenty of those. In my opinion, it must be the Guile Sound Knights, they came here to avenge their comrades, right? Unable to defeat the players of Zone 011, they take their anger out on ordinary people."
"Do you think the Guile Sound Knights could be collaborating with the Holy Sword Society?" Xu Huo added, "Both sides seem to have coordinated."
Wan Tingfang paused for a moment, "I haven’t heard about that... Don’t the Guile Sound Knights always act alone?"
"How long has Director San Yang been inside?" Xu Huo then inquired.
Before Wan Tingfang could respond, she suddenly stared into the distance, her eyes widening, "Look!"
Xu Huo turned around, only to see something like ashes rising in the distance—the buildings, which were already severely weathered, seemed to completely decay, becoming as fragile as tissue paper, gradually disintegrating in the direction of the wind.
"What kind of prop is this, does it affect people?" Wan Tingfang asked anxiously.
Xu Huo had spent nearly an hour in a safehouse and was unclear about the changes happening outside, so he asked, "Where have the city’s residents gone?"
"They’ve been evacuated," Wan Tingfang said while searching for a place to hide, "Most of the buildings in Zone 011 have emergency evacuation devices. After a few trips, people were transported away. Those corpses you see on the streets are either idlers or identity-less paupers... We need to find somewhere to hide fast!"
The metal used in the construction of buildings in Zone 011 was not ordinary. Given that this force could corrode even metal, it might also damage props, and moreover, its effect was different from that of the "Life Core." It was very likely a Space-Time Class Prop.
If it really was a Space-Time Class Prop, this accelerated weathering effect could potentially affect people as well.
"Any place for hiding is unreliable," Xu Huo gauged the distance to his left and right and the speed of the weathering ahead, and began moving to the left, "Move to the right, avoid the Weathering Zone."
"Flying machines can’t be used," Wan Tingfang added, "All mechanical devices within the entire city are affected."
Xu Huo landed first, moving towards the left side of the city at top speed, with Wan Tingfang slightly quicker, leading ahead of him.
Just as they were about to leave the Weathering Zone, unexpectedly, two figures burst out of the Dark Zone—one wore a hat and mask with a Sword-shaped badge on his chest, likely a member of the Holy Sword Society, while the other wore a Black Epaulette. The two began to fight right in front of Xu Huo and Wan Tingfang. All of a sudden, the masked player threw a toy gate into the middle of the road, and both the Black Epaulette and Xu Huo were involuntarily stopped in front of it!
The gate was only three inches tall, but no one could step over it—a visible barrier appeared in the air around the little gate, making prop attacks ineffective!
"This gate is mine!" Ran Ying’s voice came from behind. A plastic key was tossed to the ground, and the toy gate immediately opened automatically.
With the gate open, the barrier in the air disappeared; Xu Huo accelerated and within a few seconds completely left the range potentially affected by the weathering, but turned back only to be trapped by the masked player using a transparent sphere.
Ran Ying and three others, including Wan Tingfang, were also trapped in similar spheres, their feet isolated from the ground. Whenever they moved slightly, the sphere rolled rapidly as if it had no friction.
The rapidly spinning sphere was difficult to control, and when it struck any object, its speed further increased. However, breaking the prop wasn’t a hard task for Xu Huo. The moment the sphere started to roll, he pulled out the "Crimson Sword," split the sphere open with a slash, and then grabbed onto a piece of string to counteract the inertia before launching himself into the air.
Ran Ying and the others also escaped in succession, but surprisingly, the masked player had also placed himself inside a sphere and began rolling quickly across the ground.
"Stop him!" Ran Ying and another Black Epaulette positioned themselves on both sides, ready to employ props, but the masked player bounced with the sphere—it wasn’t a jump but a bounce, as the sphere went airborne as if it had hit something, then quickly crashed back to the ground, though its direction was unpredictable.
Xu Huo wasn’t able to get far either, as he was likewise confined within the range of the sphere’s motion.
Descending from mid-air, the masked player bounced a few times, and his speed became very fast.
"The grudge of the banana peel!" the Black Epaulette threw a paper down on the ground. The paper, drawn with a banana, automatically followed the sphere’s landing trajectory, but the masked player controlling the sphere avoided it.
"Split on sight!" After observing the trajectory of the sphere, Ran Ying stood near the edge, and when the sphere fell close to her again, she used her prop. The next second, the bounced sphere was intercepted halfway by an unseen barrier, splitting its path of motion right down the middle.
With a reduced range, Ran Ying was able to keep up with the speed of the sphere, and after several close calls, the masked player failed to evade the banana paper on the ground, skidding from the ground onto a nearby car.
The other Black Epaulette was waiting for this moment. With one hand resting on the car body, the metal-made car melted like mud and wrapped towards the masked player!
