Chapter 835: Transport to the Safe House
Chapter 835: Chapter 835: Transport to the Safe House
A typical magazine, Xu Huo finished flipping through it and had nothing to do. He had tried opening the door, but the lock wouldn’t turn. Without attempting to break into the safe house, he walked around and then returned inside.
Half an hour later, the door to the safe house automatically opened.
A sound came from outside, but the overall environment was different from Zone 011. His face changed slightly, and he quickly pushed the door open, only to find himself standing in a desolate, abandoned city, with wet moss under his feet and everywhere around were the massive scratch marks left by large fierce beasts.
"Roar!" A beastly roar came from not far away, and Xu Huo turned around just in time to see a player standing on a giant fallen Mutant Beast, firing a shot through its throat!
Blood splattered everywhere, yet this player directly bent down, reached into the chest of the Alien, and pulled out a luminescent stone. Meanwhile, several players operating flying machines were approaching fast, chased by a large group of Aliens, and they picked him up and swept over Xu Huo’s head in an instant!
The safe house behind Xu Huo had already disappeared, but there was dust and smoke to the right. Those mutated animals had evolved into forms unrecognizable from their original species, large yet incredibly agile, capable of fast running and climbing on objects. Some were particularly massive, encased in thick armor, and they charged straight through!
Encountering a Different Species Group, Xu Huo didn’t think twice and turned to run.
He accelerated straight for a hundred meters, but even this pace was becoming difficult here. He had no choice but to control the distance and try to kill the Aliens remotely while running.
However, these bizarrely shaped Aliens would lurk in various parts around the abandoned buildings, suddenly pouncing out from the sides. Despite Xu Huo’s ability to sense them through the space, they still managed to slow him down.
Circling around a hollowed-out street, just as Xu Huo passed by, several tentacle-like things lifted the street surface and stretched out, lashing out in all directions, grabbing and pulling back anything they encountered. A player in a flying machine and several Aliens were dragged down!
The player apparently escaped using Tickets, disappearing once he reached underground, while the Aliens turned into food. Accompanied by massive chewing sounds, only some of the blood splashed outside.
With a whooshing sound, a thin chain flew down from above, wrapped around Xu Huo’s waist, and pulled him into the air. Just then, Aliens lunged from both sides. Xu Huo didn’t resist; instead, he used the momentum to fly upward, grabbing onto the chain directly.
The player who pulled him up was the same one who had just killed the Alien. She threw out a flying machine, hopped on behind her companion, fell back a few steps to signal Xu Huo to get on, and asked, "What’s your name? Did you notice the Man-Eating Flower underground earlier?"
Xu Huo didn’t answer her question but asked instead, "Where is this place?"
The female player looked surprised, "Don’t you check the address before using Tickets? This is Zone 004... But why are you here? The Alien Activity Zone doesn’t have an instance..."
Great, he hadn’t used a Ticket, and they had sent him to Zone 004 in half an hour.
"Qing Cai, don’t talk too much," someone beside them reminded the female player, but she didn’t care and said, "A guest from afar deserves a warm welcome... Qing Cai is my name, and yours?"
She was speaking to Xu Huo, who was just about to respond when suddenly darkness surged forward. Before he could gather his wits, he and Qing Cai crashed back into the safe house. Neither had time to defend themselves, hitting the wall panel hard. Xu Huo was okay, but Qing Cai was hit in the chest bone by her own flying machine, producing two crisp sounds of breaking bones.
"Are you alright?" Xu Huo didn’t rush to help her up but asked first.
Qing Cai eyed him warily, "What’s going on?"
"I’m not sure," Xu Huo said. "I was mysteriously sent here, and now just as mysteriously sent back."
Qing Cai eyed him for a couple of seconds, then relaxed slightly, "Well, I’ll believe you. Either way, I’m already injured. Can we get out of this house?"
Xu Huo tried the door, but it still wouldn’t open.
"Then this must definitely be a Spatial Teleportation Device," Qing Cai said. "But a spatial prop capable of targeted teleportation is usually either very expensive or a consumable item; this one might be a random teleport."
"I’ve never heard of someone being sent out and then immediately brought back—that’s really something!"
Qing Cai pressed her chest and walked to the table, flipping through the magazine on it, "This magazine is published in Zone 004; the exit from this room should correspond to Zone 004, right? Zone 004 is rich in gemstones... This is last year’s magazine."
Xu Huo pinched his brow. What concerned him now was whether he would be able to return to Zone 011.
Half an hour had passed, and Jin Feixue and the base would probably be wrapping up by now.
The injured Qing Cai seemed rather unconcerned, "We should make the best of it. As long as the prop’s owner doesn’t want to kill, we will survive no matter which zone we are thrown into. Which zone did you come from?"
"Zone 011," Xu Huo replied, noticing her expression change dramatically. He then asked, "What’s wrong with Zone 011?"
"Are you a local from Zone 011?" Qing Cai asked with a grim face.
Xu Huo paused for a moment, "With your attitude so obvious, even if I were, I wouldn’t admit it now."
"Then you’re not," Qing Cai said sitting down. "Haven’t you heard of the reputation of Zone 011 players in other zones? In our Zone 004, we call them ’locusts.’"
"Wherever they go, they swarm. If they can overpower others, they rob them, leaving not even the underwear; and where they can’t, they buy with money, sometimes even buying up half a zone’s supplies."
"I heard just a few days ago they nearly destroyed a small zone, supposedly because they mined out a wall used to build safe zones for a type of ore, leading to several cities being wiped out overnight by the Aliens."
"Zone 011 is currently celebrating the Harvest Festival." Xu Huo paid attention, "What kind of ore is so valuable that they even take away the stones used for walls?"
"It’s nothing particularly valuable, just a type of stone with very good hardness," Qing Cai said. "But the players of Zone 011 are just cruel; that’s why they are likened to locusts."
She had missed the point. If it was just ordinary ore, Zone 011 wouldn’t need to celebrate it so grandly; gathering some resources wasn’t that big a deal.
There are many precious ores in the game, some used to manufacture props and weapons. Could the unrest in Zone 011 have been due to this ore?
But why then was it also linked to the base?
Or were these two matters simply a coincidence?
Seeing no way to leave soon, Qing Cai drank a Self-Healing Potion and then took out the Emerald she had just obtained to admire, "This kind of gemstone is considered the best quality among Secondary Stones; this trip wasn’t a waste at all!"
Xu Huo also glanced at the large, green, translucent gemstone, "What are Secondary Stones?"
"Transmutation Stones," Qing Cai said. "Simply put, they are stones that quickly change their properties due to being infiltrated by certain substances. If you’re lucky, you might even find one or two that can be used to craft props."
