Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die! -
Chapter 829: Nobody Idle
Chapter 829: Chapter 829: Nobody Idle
Xu Huo’s gaze slightly darkened, and he seriously looked at Wan Tingfang, speaking only after a moment, "I heard from Director San Yang that there are many important items in the base none of us can set foot above the fifth floor."
"We didn’t see many external staff when we came in, did we?"
"Because they were released from their curses, and the reason is the theft of base secrets." He shook his head, "Being fired is still okay, the worst fear is being sent to a high-risk instance."
"It can’t be that bad..." Wan Tingfang said, "Can’t the base restrict player freedom?"
"You forgot this base was established by the Game Government," Xu Huo said. "Since it is nominally a government, there must be corresponding laws and regulations. Although the base has no armed rights, going against the terms set by the Game Government will certainly lead to punishment, and it isn’t hard considering they know our ID credentials."
Wan Tingfang appeared thoughtful; after a while, she finally said, "I’m beginning to feel less enthusiastic about this job, who knows when a colleague’s mistake might implicate me."
Xu Huo handed her a clean pack of tissues with a smile, "That’s the power of the Game Government, we’re just players we have to follow the rules if we want to keep playing."
"Why do I feel there’s more to what you’re saying?" Wan Tingfang peeled off a towel and roughly wiped off some blood before applying a sterile patch, "Rest assured, I’m quite curious about what’s upstairs, but rather than satisfying my curiosity, my life is more important. I won’t involve you."
"That’s good then." Xu Huo pointed at the flickering dot on the screen, "Now that we’re here, let’s finish the job then leave."
Wan Tingfang resignedly sat down, complaining, "It’s these orbital alerts feedback every day, more than half of them are nothing, yet we still need to categorize and check each, with such advanced technology, why not simply use machines to sort it out? Could it be just to justify the payroll?"
Xu Huo didn’t say much more.
This was actually quite simple, whether it’s the orbit data or data related to it, most of it is handled using codes.
For instance, orbit alerts near Zone 011 would normally be displayed using specific distribution maps as it’s more direct and convenient, but what the base receives are just strings of numbers; from zones, stations, routes, all are replaced with numbers, making the whole screen dense with numbers.
It’s not that the machines couldn’t provide more specific information, but they did so intentionally; orbit information, even for maintenance staff, was encrypted. The staff responsible for categorizing had very little time to categorize a certain way and dispatch them to different teams.
Only after receiving the specific maintenance task and boarding, would the Orbital Supply Department staff get the detailed route maps.
The same orbit, the same route, the next time, might be a completely different code, a different route, not to mention the inclusion of fake alerts.
Even those working for the Game Government, even if they come from earlier game-based Wormhole Points, aren’t trusted by the game, both subjectively and objectively.
Even the process of categorizing orbit alerts is recorded to gauge whether a staff member is copying orbit codes.
Train tracks are the foundation upon which the game Dimensional Rift is built, so the protection of these tracks is unsurprisingly stringent.
After busying themselves in the office for half a day, as the two left the base building, they overheard other employees discussing the Holy Sword Society, saying that they had attacked a game government section not far from Zone 011 and had stolen a set of important experimental samples.
Wan Tingfang frowned, "Experimental samples? Could it be another genetic enhancement experiment?"
Such experiments generally aren’t good news; many bizarre Aliens came from these.
"As long as it’s not a biochemical weapon, it’s not a big deal." Xu Huo’s expression was indifferent, "Are such incidents rare in the game?"
Wan Tingfang opened her mouth, and after a few seconds finally said, "I once went to a backward section. The Game Government had built a test factory there. After an accidental incident, poison gas leaked causing over half of the section’s land to be contaminated, over two-thirds of the population degenerated into Aliens within three months. I heard from experienced players that it’s very likely this section cannot last a year, with no new population, Aliens taking over the section, the instance will also disappear."
"Is this kind of experiment really necessary?"
"You’re mistaken about one thing." Xu Huo looked at her, "How do you know it was an accident?"
"Not only the Game Government, but some bigger game powers directly turn game sections with less potential into Alien breeding grounds."
Stopping experiments or stealing experimental samples is only treating symptoms, not the root cause. As long as this game exists, such incidents will never cease.
"What can we do then? The game holds absolute initiative, we players want to turn things around unless we destroy the game." Wan Tingfang shrugged her shoulders, "But such a thing, I never even dared to dream of it."
"Aren’t there so many people taking their chances? Maybe someday someone can do it." Xu Huo smiled at her and drove off in his own flyer.
Flying far, Xu Huo still saw Wan Tingfang standing there; he smiled faintly and turned his gaze away, heading to the exchange.
Apart from the Prop skirt he promised Little Pink Hat, he also had to buy two suitable Defense Props.
"I’m really sorry sir, all the Advanced Items currently available have been taken by a few Dukes, new items haven’t arrived yet. How about leaving your contact details and purchasing requirements, and we’ll contact you as soon as we get suitable items?"
Going to several places, the excuses were all the same.
This was the "hangover" from the Harvest Festival; after celebrating the harvest, it was time for awards, and these Advanced Items were likely rewards for the players.
Unable to buy the right items, Xu Huo could only return to Rose Castle first.
Mr. Dong and the Girl in the painting were pruning flower branches, Yan Jiayu and her Stone Lion, one sweeping and the other carrying a bucket, both very dedicated.
His gaze shifted to the person sitting in the garden drinking tea, Xu Huo massaged his temples, "Mr. Dong has hired quite a few servants."
"Servants are not as efficient as players." Bai Kou sincerely suggested, "You could hire some players to clean."
"And they seem quite happy to do it, don’t they?"
"You shouldn’t be idle either, go and cut me a plate of fruit."
Xu Huo had someone bring over the fruit, "Since you have nothing to do, why not help me find someone."
"I helped you last night." Bai Kou stared at him.
"Thank you." Xu Huo was unobstructed.
"No help." Bai Kou was direct, "I’m here on vacation, I’m not dealing with anything that doesn’t disturb me."
"However," she changed the subject, "if you write a will stating that I will take over the castle after you die, I might consider it."
Xu Huo looked at her for a couple of seconds and then laughed, "No writing."
