Chapter 762: Chapter 762: I Want My Things Back
The rain was falling, but it wasn’t poisonous, and Teacher Pan and Gao Xiaoyue, reacting too quickly, jumped into the alleyway at the first sign of danger, trying to take shelter in the stores. The instant they touched the ground, however, both of them were immobilized in place. Teacher Pan quickly warned Sun Bo and Peng Fengnian, who were following them; they were also quick to react and changed course mid-air, rushing into a shop ahead.
"Teacher Pan!" Sun Bo turned back to pull Teacher Pan and Gao Xiaoyue, but Xu Huo was already upon them.
"You guys go first!" Gao Xiaoyue slapped Teacher Pan, pushing him out of the Number Grid and then drew her gun and fired at Xu Huo!
A rusty iron door fell to the ground, and Xu Huo’s figure swiftly hid behind it. Landing on one hand against the door frame, the prop entwined with the photo rope transformed into a sharp rope knife!
And Sun Bo, who was carrying Teacher Pan to the window, realized too late that the rope in front of them was a prop—they couldn’t avoid it due to their high speed and the close distance. At the critical moment, Sun Bo pushed Teacher Pan out and collided with the Harmless Whip himself.
Sun Bo was also wearing props, but his protection wasn’t entirely adequate; although the collision didn’t cause a fatal wound, it sliced through his waist. If the blade hadn’t gotten stuck in the prop, it almost would have cut him in half.
Meanwhile, Teacher Pan, sent forward and under the protection of Peng Fengnian, was about to climb out the window. Due to the dim light, neither of them paid much attention to the liquid smeared in inconspicuous places—like the table set to one side, the overturned cabinet, the old window frame... Peng Fengnian broke the window and was shocked to see two wax figures outside. Instinct made him hesitate for a moment. And in that brief time, Xu Huo, who had already killed Sun Bo, arrived behind them!
"Two different substances!" Teacher Pan shouted, holding a diamond-shaped crystal, but unfortunately, the prop didn’t work, and Xu Huo slashed open his throat with the Sword—though it should have been a fatal cut, something, perhaps another prop or a special trait, softened the blow. Teacher Pan could still speak as he knelt down, clutching his neck, "Don’t kill Peng Fengnian, he means no harm to you..."
Xu Huo kicked him away and turned to confront Peng Fengnian’s incoming Little Knife.
"Extreme Fatigue" and "Important Call" were used simultaneously, visibly exhausting the opponent who also raised a hand to his ear. On the other hand, the Crimson Sword also fell to the ground, and Xu Huo’s arms suddenly became sharply painful, almost to the point of immobility...
As adversaries faced each other, the now "armless" Xu Huo was clearly at a disadvantage compared to Peng Fengnian, who still had one hand available. But Peng Fengnian’s knife inexplicably shifted slightly to the right mid-strike and missed the heart.
The force of "Like Repels Like" acted in an instant. Peng Fengnian was thrust against the window frame and rebounded. Xu Huo followed with a kick to his abdomen, sending him flying out the window. He then turned to face the sneak attack from Gao Xiaoyue.
Gao Xiaoyue used a Silencer Prop, moving from the doorway with almost no sound. She thought she hadn’t been exposed, so she was especially surprised when Xu Huo seemed to anticipate and turned around almost as if he had expected it.
Without pausing, a body bag suddenly appeared by Xu Huo’s side with its zipper wide open, engulfing him like an open mouth!
Gao Xiaoyue, who was within arm’s reach, drew her steel wire to loop over him, but before a second had passed, a long sword pierced the body bag, "slashing" downward.
A prop, even if made of paper or cloth, wouldn’t be easily destroyed, yet that sword cut the body bag as if it were slicing through paper. Realizing something was amiss, Gao Xiaoyue quickly retreated with Teacher Pan.
Teacher Pan, hoisted on someone’s shoulder, saw the person who came out of the shop a step later and immediately hurled the green syringe far away!
Xu Huo, who was hot on their heels, instantly changed direction and reached out to catch the potion. However, as he caught it, the glass vial shattered, and the potion immediately evaporated into a pungent gas, quickly filling an area of several cubic meters.
Gao Xiaoyue, who had been running frantically, stopped and looked back at the smoke-filled area, "Is he dead?"
There was no need for Teacher Pan to answer her, as Xu Huo personally provided the answer. Like lightning, he burst out of the smoke and appeared on the rooftop less than a hundred meters away in the blink of an eye. In another blink, he was already before them, and as he brushed past, the toxic gas clinging to him seemed not to have fully dissipated... Unaffected by the gas, he caught up with his target in a fraction of a second and predicted their escape route with such ability that any player who saw it would have to admire him—if they weren’t the prey being pursued.
Two bodies rolled down from the rooftop, and Xu Huo got his potion back as he wished. Once he confirmed it was the one he had retrieved earlier from the puppet’s arm, he waved the toxic gas off his clothes and turned to head to the gates of Museum City.
Peng Fengnian, leaning in a small alley, watched his retreating figure and called Lin Zhenhuai’s phone, "Teacher Pan is dead, you guys should find a place to hide."
After all, even after successfully completing the game, they couldn’t leave.
Lin Zhenhuai and Old Eagle were originally responsible for drawing Xu Huo away and also took the severely injured He Xue with them. They hid their companion first, planning to deal with Xu Huo and then leave the instance. However, when they got to the exit, they couldn’t get out and didn’t see Xu Huo following, so they went back to bring their teammates over.
After several attempts to leave Museum City failed, both of them realized something was wrong and were just about to contact Teacher Pan when Peng Fengnian’s call came in.
Old Eagle was outraged, "He dared to kill Teacher Pan!"
Lin Zhenhuai was much calmer, "What’s wrong with a player dying at the hands of another player? When you kill, you should be prepared to be killed."
"But Teacher Pan is different..." Old Eagle hadn’t finished speaking when he was interrupted, "He’s no different. Entering the game, this day was bound to come eventually. Don’t even think about going out for revenge. Teacher Pan has been killed, Gao Xiaoyue must be dead too, and we are no match for Yu Huo. Let’s hide first and talk when we meet up with our people."
After securing their companion, Lin Zhenhuai and Old Eagle split up to find places to hide. Xu Huo, however, did not relentlessly pursue them, but instead found a place to carefully examine the information about Corpse-Hiding Hotel in Teacher Pan’s luggage compartment.
The disappearance of people entering the Corpse-Hiding Hotel had attracted the attention of some scholars. From initial metaphysical studies to the emergence of the game world, these people realized that Corpse-Hiding Hotel might have been linked to the game for a long time and could either be a naturally formed overlapping space or an accidentally created prop. In any case, it was of great research value.
The local government blocked the news and conducted their own research, sending in many who died before finally yielding some results.
