Chapter 758: Chapter 758 Tickets Invalid
The reward for clearing the stage was obtained, including the Return Ticket. Xu Huo estimated that Xiao Ling and Yu Guangnan were also close to completing their tasks. Although they had not mentioned the doll clothing store when exchanging progress earlier, completing the leftover tasks would be a piece of cake after hearing the story from Teacher Pan.
However, none of the three of them left.
"Footsteps have appeared." Gao Xiaoyue, who was on lookout outside, sent a message, "Sixth floor staircase."
The players left the room and moved toward the sixth floor, with Xu Huo leading the way. Just as he reached the staircase, he heard the familiar footsteps heading upward. He glanced at his "Escaping from Death chance" data, and the number had actually dropped to 5%!
He had secretly tested the escape chances using a prop elsewhere in the hotel before and, although the chances were in the single digits, they were higher than this.
The only explanation for this phenomenon was that there were no exits around the footsteps as he had anticipated, and the sound was not that of outside players walking in, but rather the same type of sound that had led him into the Mirror Hotel!
The sound was as if it came from another space; their silencing props were useless. Monsters lurking on other floors were drawn over, and the players immediately plunged back into a melee.
During the fight, Xu Huo noticed Lin Zhenhuai and Gao Xiaoyue protecting Teacher Pan as they fled upstairs. He followed them and, sure enough, he soon heard footsteps appear in the seventh-floor corridor. Following the three, he watched Teacher Pan throw a small picture frame prop toward where the footsteps were coming from.
The prop landed on the ground, but the footsteps started up again elsewhere. Gao Xiaoyue was the first to pick up the prop and throw it again, only for the footsteps to move to another spot when the prop flew over.
They seemed to be trying to "lure" the footsteps.
"Bang!" Xiao Ling broke through the stairs and flew up, looking up to see Xu Huo, she hastily said, "Come and help, quick!"
Xu Huo turned and leaped towards the approaching monster, swinging down the "Eye of the Deceased" and slicing off half of its cheek!
The monster howled and retreated, running into Peng Fengnian and Yu Guangnan, who were coming to help. It knocked them aside, let out a warning growl, and then scampered down the stairs.
"Don’t chase it," Xu Huo called to those wanting to follow, then quickly turned back upstairs. Unexpectedly, the moment his foot stepped into the corridor, the floor vanished as if it had dematerialized. He lost his balance and began falling downwards!
The other players, who were on different floors, were falling as well, but the descent didn’t last long. In just a few seconds, their feet touched the ground again—it was the same floor, the same spot as before.
Xiao Ling and Yu Guangnan, who were clueless about the situation, approached Xu Huo with tense expressions, "What’s going on?"
"That’s something you should ask them," Xu Huo said, nodding his chin towards Teacher Pan’s trio who were on their way back.
"I have no idea what happened, the prop suddenly opened a door on the ground... I felt a void under my feet for a moment, could it be that the hotel’s space has shifted?" Teacher Pan said with uncertainty.
Xu Huo squinted at the group, then after a moment said, "It’s possible the space really did shift, and with that creature gone, we could be in the Corpse-Hiding Hotel now."
"It doesn’t quite look like the Corpse-Hiding Hotel," Gao Xiaoyue surveyed the surroundings, "Look outside, there’s not a soul in sight."
The previous night in the Corpse-Hiding Hotel, it had been pitch black outside, but now when looking out, there was a faint light visible. This weak light also seemed to add a bit of brightness to the hotel; the layout of the rooms was barely visible—as if moonlight was shining through.
The expressions of Peng Fengnian and others were not very clear under the dim light. However, Peng Fengnian, Sun Bo, Old Zheng, and Old Eagle were on the sixth floor, while Teacher Pan, Lin Zhenhuai, and Gao Xiaoyue were on the seventh floor, with Xu Huo’s trio caught on the staircase without windows.
The space suddenly quieted down, and the atmosphere unconsciously grew tense.
Xiao Ling and Yu Guangnan weren’t stupid. The former gently poked Xu Huo in the back.
"If it’s not the Corpse-Hiding Hotel, it could be some other space," Xu Huo broke the strange tension, retracting his prop, "This place originally had multiple spaces, it’s not surprising to fall into any one of them if a trigger is hit. But since your props are effective, try a few more times, and you might end up in the Corpse-Hiding Hotel."
Teacher Pan and the others didn’t take up the suggestion, but they no longer blocked their way and stepped aside, saying, "How about we split up to find the footsteps?"
The groups quickly parted ways, but Peng Fengnian and Sun Bo followed Xu Huo.
Xiao Ling, taking the lead, gave Xu Huo a silent signal and then, while the two behind them weren’t paying attention, released a small toy. Half a minute later, footsteps echoed from downstairs.
Peng Fengnian and Sun Bo didn’t hesitate to jump out from the window, but as Xu Huo and his group also approached the window, they didn’t follow suit. Instead, they turned back into the corridor. Xiao Ling used a silencing prop before saying, "There’s something seriously wrong with this lot!"
Of course, Xu Huo was aware. Seeing how adept Teacher Pan’s group was at "catching" footsteps, he understood they weren’t new to this and probably weren’t in this space for the first time. Peng Fengnian and Sun Bo also seemed quite familiar with this layer of space, behaving more freely than before.
"What exactly are they looking for?" Xiao Ling was genuinely curious, "Aren’t they worried about being trapped here? The time in this place... it’s also off."
They all knew this scenario might be a day’s loop. Whether these people had tickets or not, they couldn’t be completely oblivious, could they?
"It’s not that they aren’t worried, it’s that they really are trapped," Xu Huo glimpsed out the window, "Why else do you think they would reveal the past of Museum City without reservation?"
They had done a thorough background check and dispatched quite a few people for this; how could they possibly let only those without tickets come in?
These people, even if unstable from hunger, had to stay here, probably not because they absolutely needed a certain prop, but because even if they cleared the stage, they couldn’t leave. Recounting background stories, whether or not Xu Huo and his group could clear the stage, showed sincerity. Not to mention they had only been inside for a couple of days and might not be able to collect all the progresses. Even if they could, it was useless if they couldn’t leave.
"Are both the tickets and the Return Tickets useless?" Xiao Ling didn’t believe it and immediately checked her personal panel. Two seconds later, she frowned, "I knew it, not a single one of them is honest, and to think you considered Peng Fengnian a friend!"
Let’s not talk about Peng Fengnian; for now, both sides were at peace, and their ultimate goal was to get out.
Yu Guangnan had also cleared the stage. His expression wasn’t as calm as before but showed a trace of nervousness, "If the tickets can’t be used, and we can’t leave this space, what if we exceed seven days? Wouldn’t we possibly be stuck in this scenario forever?"
Xu Huo looked at the time; it was almost twelve o’clock, "We don’t have seven days, we might only have twelve hours left."
