Chapter 751: Chapter 751: The Plan That Didn’t Go Smoothly
At such a close distance, the object Xu Huo threw rolled right into the monster’s throat and he promptly pressed the remote control, causing music to emanate from the monster’s belly:
"Xiao Ming has a secret, which he shared with his friend Xiao Hua..."
As the monster was clawing at its mouth, it spun in place upon hearing the sound and then lunged violently towards Xu Huo!
"Be careful!" Yu Guangnan, who had arrived behind him, saw Xu Huo cornered in the dead end of the hallway and couldn’t help but shout, while simultaneously throwing a whistle to attract the monster’s attention.
However, the monster held a "new grudge on top of an old one" against Xu Huo and paid no attention to the noise-making prop flying past; its target was solely the person straight ahead!
Nonetheless, taking advantage of the brief respite, Xu Huo had already adjusted his angle and managed to leap past the monster, making use of its characteristics. As he did, he landed a slash on its back, but he retracted his Sword as soon as he hit bone!
"Let’s go!" Having achieved his goal, Xu Huo did not linger to fight. He set a fire in the corridor and called Yu Guangnan to retreat with him.
The injured player had already been taken away, and Xu Huo and Yu Guangnan climbed outside the wall, but the monster that was hot on their heels climbed up after them along the wall, stubbornly chasing right behind them!
"Accelerate the fall!" Sun Bo appeared at the window and used a prop to knock the monster back to the ground again, buying time for Xu Huo and the others.
"Hurry up here!" Gao Xiaoyue threw down a steel cable and as soon as Xu Huo and Yu Guangnan grabbed it, they were quickly pulled up to the seventh floor.
"Roar! Roar!" The monster thrown back to the ground looked up and howled, pacing left and right and constantly grinding its claws on the ground. But it had clearly learned its lesson, knowing it couldn’t reach them and, after spinning in place, it stared at the upper floors for quite some time before finally giving up and going back inside the first floor.
Back on the upper floor, Xu Huo thanked Sun Bo, who responded, "Now you understand, sniping the monster is very difficult. It can even destroy some props, and mere skin-deep cuts inflicted by swords are utterly useless; it can recover overnight."
"At least now we can confirm that it cannot leave the hotel area," said Xu Huo. "If there’s no sign of its nest or excrement anywhere in the entire hotel, it means its territory isn’t limited to the Mirror Hotel, and there are surely secret passageways within the hotel."
"We didn’t see it in the Corpse-Hiding Hotel. Could this hotel have a tri-space?" Xiao Ling asked with doubt, "If so, wouldn’t that make it even harder for us to get out?"
"Even if another space is proven to exist, it doesn’t mean that space has an exit. Otherwise, the monster should have appeared in the Corpse-Hiding Hotel too," someone chimed in.
"If there are indeed multiple spaces, and the monster can freely move between them, there has to be a pathway in and out," Xu Huo explained. "This potential pathway is currently our only hope."
Spacetime is cohesive, so the only weak points are these passageways. It’s actually quite strange that we can hear the footsteps of players outside in the Mirror Hotel. If this phenomenon is due to the presence of spaces linking the pathways, then they shouldn’t be shifting—unless during such times, the entire hotel’s space undergoes a change, a change that Peng Fengnian and the others failed to notice.
"What do we do next?" Xiao Ling inquired.
"We wear down the monster’s strength," Xu Huo replied. "Let’s see if it can lead us to some clues."
In the following time, they used some of the noise-making tools and props they carried to attract the monster to different floors. This time they didn’t need to confront it head-on; their focus was on wearing it down, and ideally, they would manage to plant a tracking device on its body in the process.
With the noise, the injured monster was frequently lured out, giving Xu Huo, Peng Fengnian, and the others a chance to re-examine the hotel rooms.
Most of the rooms were similarly arranged and could be checked at a glance, with nothing worthy of attention. Xu Huo did not find others, such things as wax figures that had appeared in the Corpse-Hiding Hotel before, or mannequins and dolls from other venues, let alone any Potion.
If the S-Version Drug were indeed hidden in this instance, and if the hints about the drug in the psychotherapy room were indeed left by Dr. Wu, then this hotel with its multiple dimensions was the most likely place for the Potion to be kept.
Could he have stored the potion in the Tri-space?
Thus avoiding the monster, Xu Huo and others searched the entire hotel from top to bottom, confirming that there was indeed no monster’s nest or excretion area.
"Has the sound disappeared?" Xiao Ling stopped in the corridor, looked up at the window outside, "The music is still playing, but the sound of the monster has disappeared."
Xu Huo first checked the time, "Dawn is breaking."
It was already approaching six in the morning, and the darkness outside had receded somewhat. He turned around to meet up with Peng Fengnian and the others, learning that the last sighting of the monster was on the eighth floor, and then he made his way there.
Upon entering the eighth floor, he immediately projected his Spiritual World, but regrettably, he didn’t sense anything on this level.
"What are you looking for?" Lin Zhenhuai followed him up.
Xu Huo casually opened a door to a room next to him, stepped inside to find it was a normal hotel room, and his expression darkened before he closed the door again.
"Trying to see if I can find the passage the monster used to leave."
When it comes to the knowledge of the replica’s space, Xiao Ling and the others had little to draw on; however, Lin Zhenhuai possessed an artifact that could detect small spatial fluctuations. He said, "Every time the monster left, I did a test, but the artifact did not respond."
If such a passage indeed existed, the most likely moment for them to "stumble upon" it was right after the monster vanished. By the time Xu Huo came up and checked each room one by one, it would be too late.
Xu Huo did not explain further; he only needed to take a few extra steps to check the entire floor. After finding nothing, he regrouped with the others back in the previous room.
On Peng Fengnian’s side, the same people appeared as before, except for Teacher Pan, and two other players had not left their rooms.
Xu Huo didn’t care, he simply inquired after the player who had been injured before.
"His spine is crushed," Peng Fengnian sighed, "The external injuries are also severe. If he can’t get out in time, he’s likely to die here."
The group fell into a brief silence before starting to integrate the details.
Aside from the last appearance on the eighth floor, the monster wandered between different levels at other times and never disappeared. During this period, the wound on its neck caused by the steel wire trap had healed by half, but it was unknown whether the fur it had burnt off would regrow.
Of course, the tracking device was not successfully attached, because as soon as it realized something extra was on its body, the first thing it would do is get rid of it, even tearing off the tracking devices drilled into its flesh along with the skin.
"Did you find any traces of it vomiting?" Xu Huo asked, "I stuffed a player inside its stomach."
Peng Fengnian looked at him in surprise, "There’s none of that, but since that’s the case, why didn’t you simply toss a tracker in there?"
"It was a split-second decision," Xu Huo gave a reasonable explanation.
Xiao Ling and the others were speechless and regretful, while Peng Fengnian looked at him a couple more times.
