Chapter 731 The Riot from the Doll

Chapter 731: Chapter 731 The Riot from the Doll

The doll clothing store’s display cases on both floors were arranged in a grid, each case over three meters long with certain gaps in between. This layout created many small compartments within the limited space, and with obstructed sightlines, the dolls falling over seemed even more constrictive. In that moment, it was difficult to determine from where the iron spike had come flying.

"Crack!" Behind Xu Ruosi, a doll fell from the display case.

Like the start of a chain reaction, dolls from the display cases on both sides of them began to fall, quickly burying their feet!

Xu Huo led the way by leaping onto a display case. However, the moment he did, all the nearby dolls turned their heads in unison. Mouths that had been closed slowly opened — and even those that weren’t designed to open their mouths seemed to tear their jaws apart in unison!

The clacking sounds overlapped and gradually evolved into a piercing noise. Liu Chengyi shouted loudly, "Let’s retreat first!"

That was also what everyone else was thinking. They rushed towards the staircase almost simultaneously, but just as they were passing the display cases, Jie Ling, who was at the back, was suddenly pulled down by a doll grabbing her foot!

She fell onto the walkway and, turning to kick the hand off, didn’t expect the doll to have such extraordinary strength. It managed to snap her leg bone, then raised its other hand, aiming a meter-long metal spike at her abdomen!

"Click clack!" Accompanied by the sound of a metal buckle snapping into place, armor automatically formed over Jie Ling’s chest and abdomen, blocking the metal spike. After slicing off the doll’s arm, she stood up using the divide between the display cases and used the Grappling Hook to swiftly move away from the spot.

Unfortunately, before she could get past the nearest display case, the dismembered doll stood up again and, like a wild beast, burst forth with incredible strength and hurled the metal spike!

The white cold gleam shot through Jie Ling’s defense prop at a speed too fast for the naked eye, piercing her chest and embedding itself in the wall on the second floor!

Jie Ling fell to the ground, while the cumbersome bodied doll rushed toward her, brandishing new metal spikes in its hand and firing them off like crossbow arrows, so quickly that afterimages appeared!

Xu Huo jumped onto an adjacent display case and, after deflecting the first metal spike, used a kite string to pull Jie Ling up!

"Ting ting ting ting!" A dense array of metal spikes created a hedgehog formation on the ground. The doll that missed its target twisted its head to look at Xu Huo.

Liu Chengyi and the others had already scattered. Xu Huo noticed that the dolls’ eyes were following his movements, so he flicked his lighter and first set the freely moving doll ablaze before igniting the light fixtures on the second floor.

As the light fixtures caught fire, the lighting on that level went out, and the vast venue immediately fell into darkness. Xu Huo, leading Jie Ling towards the staircase, didn’t expect that just as they moved, more metal spikes came flying from behind!

Dodging the relentless metal spikes while blocking, Xu Huo swept a glance over the display cases and found that some dolls’ eyes were glowing. Although the faint light wasn’t enough to clearly make out people’s faces, it was no problem seeing a shadow, and for those dolls, a shadow was enough!

A doll half the size of a person, swinging a metal spike like a club, rushed at him, chopping at his body continuously. Although the force was slightly weaker, the speed was very fast. Even though Xu Huo rapidly moved between points using his abilities, the doll managed to keep up, and by the time he reached the stairwell, he realized that there was more than one doll that could move freely!

"Clack clack clack!" The dolls’ mouths incessantly made noises as their bodies jolted up and down. They climbed up the display cases and walls, attacking Xu Huo from all directions. Some flung metal tags, others plucked out their eyeballs to throw, and some even leapt straight at his face!

Using "Concentrated Air" to fend off these dolls one by one, Xu Huo stomped on a few that crawled out from beneath the display cases, then set fire to those moving ones. Afterward, he said to Jie Ling, "Look to see if there’s a doll representing twins!"

Jie Ling immediately understood, grabbed a doll from the cabinet, twisted its head backwards, and the doll sprung to life, landing on the ground and moving backwards to confront the encroaching dolls from the front.

The dolls in the gallery were very sensitive to humans but utterly indifferent to their counterparts. That doll treaded over others, breaking out of the encirclement, and started weaving through the display cases.

Xu Huo was not certain whether the clues provided by the Wax Figure Gallery were accurate since the stories told by players were random, but the clues were targeted. Considering the sheer number of toy dolls in the doll clothing store, it was possible that the pair of dolls mentioned on the paper were merely indicative, with the necessary item still inside this gallery.

Jie Ling’s chest wound was not fatal, but her injured foot made moving difficult, requiring Xu Huo’s guidance. During this time, she also continuously used props, but items effective on humans didn’t work on the dolls, and the effectiveness of defense props was limited. She did manage to kill quite a few dolls, but more came running out behind them. Furthermore, these dolls weren’t stupid—they even knew how to coordinate their attack from a distance. If it weren’t for Xu Huo’s wide-ranging defense props, she would have been studded like a pin-cushion by now!

"These dolls all use needles, so they must be related to Zhen Mountain Therapy," she said.

The surrounding area was already filled with dolls, these sneaky creatures alternated attacks from above and below, and even when they got close to the display cases, they would suddenly jab a metal tag from behind. The entire scene resembled a doll uprising, with these seemingly adorable dolls transforming into relentless murderous weapons in an instant!

About a few minutes later, the doll Jie Ling had released returned. Just as she bent down to receive it, the contrarian doll suddenly leapt up, pulling out a metal tag from behind!

"Damn it!" Jie Ling cursed as she narrowly avoided her throat being slashed, and then with a counter move, smashed the doll into a display case with an electric shock gun and thrust fiercely!

The doll trembled like a human under the shock, but even so, it stubbornly hurled the metal tag it held.

"My special ability stopped working, this thing quickly gets turned against me when it gets out," Jie Ling turned to say to Xu Huo.

"How many can you influence at one time?" Xu Huo asked.

"Theoretically unlimited, but I have to do it one by one, and the effect is only for searching," Jie Ling replied quickly.

"No worries," Xu Huo kicked down the cabinet in front of him, taking advantage of the mass of dolls pinned to the ground to jump to a display cabinet in the corner, "just buy us a little time!"

Leaning against the wall as instructed, Jie Ling did as she was told, while Xu Huo signaled for her to be careful. Then, he jumped out of the encirclement, dragging with him two wildly flailing dolls. The protective suit he wore secreted a sticky substance. When a doll lunged at him, he conveniently caught it mid-air, and their hands became stuck together!
