Chapter 730: The Mended Doll

Chapter 730: Chapter 730: The Mended Doll

"These little instruments are quite well made," Liu Chengyi observed the items in the display case, "almost indistinguishable from real surgical tools, even including the sizes and numbers of the sutures."

"You seem to be very familiar with these?" Xu Ruosi glanced at him, "Were you a doctor before?"

"No, I worked with medical equipment for a while," Liu Chengyi said, "You don’t have to eat pork to see a pig run; these things were essential knowledge."

"Then you’ve cast your net quite wide with your studies," Xiao Ling said, "you recognize every single tool."

Liu Chengyi looked over with a displeased expression, "If you want to pick a fight, I’m ready, no need for the sarcasm!"

Xiao Ling, however, was much more placid than before, simply shrugging his shoulders and saying nothing more.

Upon entering the main hall, there were numerous therapy rooms inside. They were called therapy rooms, but they looked more like hospital rooms, each with an individual bed and a series of medical tools, mainly for surgical use, equipped with anesthesia machines and oxygen equipment.

Some of the rooms had dummies set up for demonstration purposes, but what was demonstrated had little to do with the medical tools provided; they used long steel needles, either piercing hands and feet to nail them to the beds or inserting them all over the body, making it look like a hedgehog.

"Now I understand what Zhen Mountain is supposed to be, it’s literally mountains made of needles," Long Aotian said, "It has nothing to do with therapy."

"Only the titles of the museum exhibits are normal," Xu Ruosi said, "It doesn’t even look like a place for human experiments; it’s just a murder base, with very bizarre methods."

"Calm down, it’s just a game attraction," Long Aotian said, "The Solar Museum City is an amusement park with horror and thrills as its theme; it’s not strange for it to be like this."

After searching around, the group likewise found no potential corpses.

Having found nothing, Jie Ling said, "Could it be that the exhibits only really open at night?"

During the day, the Wax Figure Gallery seemed quite normal. If they hadn’t entered the Strange Tale Room and had left before nightfall, they wouldn’t have discovered that the Wax Figure Gallery turned live people into wax figures, and naturally, they wouldn’t have found the bodies buried deep underground.

The Human Model Tower, Insanity Prison, and now Zhen Mountain Therapy—three places and not a single clue had been found.

"The night is drawing near anyway, why not just wait until evening?" Xiao Ling suggested, observing the expressions of Xu Huo and the others, "If something’s not right, we can still get out in time."

Xu Huo agreed, though the arrangement of the exhibits did reveal a bit of the content, it was contrary to the motives of the businessman who built The Solar Museum City.

He suggested they visit the doll clothing store next door before darkness completely fell. This way, they could finish checking out the exhibit, and in case something happened at night, they wouldn’t be caught off guard.

The others naturally had no objections, and the group left the therapy gallery to enter the clothing store.

The clothing store was much larger than the therapy gallery, a two-story building with dolls on the counters and walls throughout. There were also tools for guests to experience making doll clothes.

Upon entering, Xiao Ling frowned, taking a half-arm-long doll from the counter and slicing it in two. The stuffing squeezed out, bending the doll at a ninety-degree angle and pushing its belly up high, which looked very strange.

Xu Huo also checked these dolls; some were made with stuffing and other filling materials, while others were made of silicone, plastic, and such, with many types and sizes and very lifelike construction.

"I used to play dress-up games when I was little," Jie Ling picked up a doll and put some clothes on it, "having so many dolls is almost every little girl’s dream."

"You little girls have some strange dreams, why would you like such odd things? One or two is fine..." Long Aotian looked around, "Isn’t it creepy to be stared at by so many differently colored eyes?"

"They’re not real eyes, they’re usually just stuck on," Jie Ling began to pry at the eye socket of the doll she had just dressed, to her surprise what she removed wasn’t a sticker but a realistic eyeball.

"What the hell is this!" She threw what was in her hand away, and the spherical object rolled to Xu Huo’s feet. He picked it up and squeezed it, "Silicone product, it must have been stuck in the doll’s eye socket."

He said, as he took the doll that Xu Ruosi had just picked up and pressed the eyeball back into place.

"Some dolls have signs of being stitched up." Yu Guangnan brutally dismembered the dolls, with a pile of doll parts already built up next to him, "They have been cut open and sewn shut after being made, but there’s nothing hidden inside."

Xu Huo and the others nearby started to examine some dolls and discovered that at least one-tenth of them were like this.

"Intentionally damaging the dolls...What special purpose could there be?" Xu Ruosi pondered, "If you add the stitched scars on their faces, it might scare children."

"Maybe there’s no special meaning," Liu Chengyi suggested, "For a theme park that specializes in horror, the props sometimes don’t have to be very intricate. For instance, haunted house accessories can be old puppets or clothes and jewelry discarded by others - it saves costs and enhances the atmosphere. These dolls might have just come from there."

That was the practical perspective, and apart from that, there didn’t seem to be any other better explanation.

After looking through all the display cabinets upstairs and downstairs, finding no clues, and about to head downstairs, Xiao Ling suddenly stopped, "Did any of you move that big one just now?"

She was referring to a life-sized doll in the corner with blond hair and blue eyes, wearing a plaid skirt, now facing them.

"What’s the problem?" Long Aotian decapitated the doll’s head from a distance, and the soft fluff bounced twice on the ground before it stopped, the back of the head facing them.

Xiao Ling frowned, "I might have seen it wrong."

"Don’t scare people, what exactly did you see?" Jie Ling’s voice was a bit distorted.

"If you see something, just say it," Yu Guangnan said, "It might be a clue."

Xiao Ling replied irritably, "I felt like it was watching us."

She had checked the life-sized doll earlier, and after inspecting it, she casually turned it sideways, not letting its face directly face the room. But now, as they prepared to leave, it had turned back again.

Xu Huo walked over and picked up the doll’s head to examine it, "It doesn’t seem like a special item, but there’s no harm in being extra cautious."

After he finished speaking, he used the doll’s hair to tie it to the edge of the display cabinet. Yet, as he stood up, an iron spike flew out from nowhere, grazing the back of his head before nailing itself into the cabinet beside him!

All of them turned their heads in unison, but the gallery was silent, the display cabinets on both sides crammed with various dolls. Perhaps because they were searched so roughly, the dolls were slumping crookedly on the cabinet shelves, their eyes uniformly staring at Xu Huo and the others.

It wasn’t their imagination, as all the dolls had turned their heads to look at them!
