Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 709 The Evil Rich

Chapter 709: Chapter 709 The Evil Rich

Angel was not a player; she was just an ordinary person who had taken the Evolution Potion. Her physical abilities aligned with those of an Evolver, but this didn’t prove to be of much use. Judging by how she could still trip while walking, she obviously didn’t undergo any physical training.

Angel ran, panting heavily, yet the maze seemed endless. Eventually, her running speed slowed down until she finally collapsed on the stairs.

The night rain was cold, but it couldn’t compare to the chill in her heart. Lying flat, she had barely caught her breath when footsteps sounded from behind her again.

The "click-clack" of shoes struck the steps, resembling death’s rhythm in their eerie approach. Angel had no choice but to grit her teeth and keep running, but no matter how fast she ran, the sound closely shadowed her, always just a step behind, and she could see no one when she looked back...

Of course, she didn’t dare turn her head to see what exactly was trailing her. After running blindly for a while, she realized that the stairs beneath her were becoming increasingly uneven, making it even harder to run.

Still, there was no end in sight!

She tried random turns and even scaling the walls, but the maze seemed to expand infinitely. No matter what she did, she couldn’t find the direction. Looking out from above, the surroundings were pitch black, and she couldn’t even tell where the castle was!

"Click-clack! Click-clack! Click-clack!"

The footsteps approached again, and, unable to bear it any longer, Angel pulled at her throat screaming for help, "Mr. Xu! Steward Dong! I’m lost in the maze!"

Under the heavy fog, there was no response—just the footsteps from behind, quickening their pace.

Angel’s heart pounded like a drum as she screamed and ran with her face in her hands, bumping and stumbling. After a few minutes, a light unexpectedly appeared at the end of the corridor ahead!

"Help!" She rushed towards it, only to see a pale woman in white standing in the rain holding the lantern she had dropped!

"Ahhh!!!" Her piercing shriek spread throughout the castle, causing Xu Huo to frown and tap the bedside.

Angel, scared out of her wits, had escaped the "ghost woman" trailing her and charged back into the castle without choosing her path. Seeing the dark building ahead, she lay on the ground in despair, closed her eyes, and gave up any resistance.

"Click-clack, click-clack," following the footsteps, a light began to gradually shine on her face. Angel clenched her teeth tightly until she heard Mr. Dong say, "Miss Angel, what are you doing lying here?"

Angel’s eyes snapped open, and upon recognizing the man standing before her, she immediately sat up and said instinctively, "There’s..."

Before she could finish, she noticed that the castle had returned to normal. The night lights were on, providing insufficient illumination to light up every corner, yet making it possible to see. The paintings were properly hung on the walls with nothing crawling out from them, and the sinister, frightening atmosphere had vanished completely.

Meeting Mr. Dong’s eyes, she swallowed her words and changed her story, "I was a bit thirsty and wanted to find some water to drink, but I got lost when I went out."

Mr. Dong didn’t call out her poor lie, "You’re soaked through. Please, return to your room first, and I will prepare a new set of clothes."

Angel was not only wet. Her hands, feet, and face were covered with small wounds, and her knees and shins swelled in several places, as if she had been severely beaten.

Declining Mr. Dong’s offer to help her, she supported herself on the banister to go upstairs while also feeling a hint of anger.

As her fear subsided and her rational sense returned, she’d have been a fool not to see she’d been played by someone in the castle!

Still fuming, she reached the second floor only to see the Girl in the Painting standing in front of her. Her figure was cast in shadow against the wall behind her, and it seemed as if a face struggled to emerge from the dark silhouette. Just then, the hallway plunged into complete darkness. Angel turned to look for Mr. Dong but found standing behind her was a ghastly figure with a fiendish face, unlike that of a living creature, telling her with a gaping mouth, "Why have you stopped? Are you dazzled? This is what happens in an old castle; sometimes, you see strange things. It’s all just a trick of the eyes."

Angel no longer had the strength to confirm whether she was seeing things, she rolled her eyes and collapsed straight onto the ground.

Xu Huo removed his Pumpkin Headcover and signaled to Mr. Dong to throw her back into her room, "To come here to steal things, she’s quite bold."

Mr. Dong stepped out from behind, "There have been people lurking outside the castle these past few days, probably because they heard that the castle has a new owner and want to take advantage of that."

"Is this sort of thing common?" Xu Huo asked.

"Places like castles often attract thieves," Mr. Dong said. "However, it’s uncommon for noble ladies to scout in this manner."

Xu Huo nodded, understanding that Angel’s family was in dire straits and their ordinary income could not support their high expenditure; targeting him, a newcomer to high society, was not surprising.

"See if she is still willing to be my dance partner after she wakes up, if not, just send her back." He didn’t plan on making things difficult for Angel since she had proved his point that the Pumpkin Headcover was indeed quite frightening.

Angel did not give up on being his dance partner, she covered the wounds on her face with makeup and had breakfast with him, looking exhausted.

Xu Huo could tell she was a bit scared, her eyes involuntarily scanning around as she walked and sat, so he said, "If you’re uncomfortable, I can have someone take you back, you don’t have to worry about other issues, I will prepare a generous gift for you."

Angel looked at the man sitting opposite her, elegantly having his meal, her expression complex for a moment, "I can’t go back right now, surely you are aware of my family’s situation, if I can’t take this opportunity to find a suitable marriage prospect, soon I will become a complete commoner, forever fallen to the bottom of society."

"I heard you are a player?" she ventured, her expression serious, devoid of her previous pretense.

Xu Huo did not take his mind off his meal to give her another glance, just nodding his head.

Angel took a deep breath, "Last night I was ignorant of the rules and disturbed your rest, please don’t send me back, I can apologize to you, you can set any condition, as long as I can fulfill it."

"No need," Xu Huo said indifferently: "I won’t force you to leave, after tonight’s banquet you can go back with your family."

A weight lifted off Angel’s heart; seeing Xu Huo about to leave, she quickly stood up and watched him go upstairs before sitting down somewhat dejectedly.

At this moment, Girl in the painting suddenly poked her head out from the side, blinking her eyes and staring at her.

The two were too close, and Angel instinctively leaned back. She had just perked up and was about to greet her when Girl in the painting had already sat down at the table, Steward Dong brought breakfast and handed over a menu.

"The dishes for today’s banquet will mostly not suit Miss’s taste, this is a special menu prepared for you, the gentleman said you may dine in your room."

Girl in the painting was having breakfast and marking the menu, after which she opened her communicator to shop. She bought not only gowns but also various styles of day wear, not even blinking an eye.

"Do you want it?" Girl in the painting took a moment to ask Angel.

Before Angel could decline, Girl in the painting typed with a smirking smile, "Not giving it to you!"

Angel: ...

The evil wealthy!
