Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 677: Someone in the Mist

Chapter 677: Chapter 677: Someone in the Mist

The clues were too scant, and there were too many possible directions to extend their search. With no idea what exactly was killing people in this instance, there were too few trials they could undertake.

Xu Huo placed his phone on the chair so that it faced directly toward the door and gestured for Yi Pei to wake the administrator up.

"Do you want to use him for a test?" Yi Pei said, "What the phone captures may not be the same as what the eyes see."

The best method would be to use a person for the test.

Xu Huo understood her meaning, "We can’t find a person for now, let’s try with the phone first."

"This guy definitely won’t dare to open his eyes." Yi Pei woke the person up, he seemed to be awake but stubbornly kept his eyes shut, refusing to open them.

"With a special item, he will behave." Yi Pei first slapped a sticker on his forehead, "Open your damned dog eyes!"

The administrator’s eyelids uncontrollably snapped open, eerily flickering to either side.

After looking at the man who was forced to "open" his eyes for two seconds, Xu Huo patted his shoulder and casually stuck a piece of candy to his back, "Your eyelids are cyanotic, your heart and lungs might not be very good, consider seeing a doctor when you have time."

The administrator watched him leave the room with tears in his eyes.

Yi Pei had already used a special item to immobilize his body, then placed a small contraption behind the door and pulled the person over. Afterward, she squeezed out through the door crack and closed the door behind her.

Twenty seconds passed, a click sounded from the small contraption behind the door, Yi Pei immediately pushed the door open, but the man was gone from the room, with the chair and the mobile phone still in their original locations, the window was opened.

Both of them looked down from the window but the exterior was already devoid of any human figure.

"There really wasn’t any noise at all." Yi Pei said, "An ordinary person couldn’t do this."

"Let’s go outside to check." Xu Huo pocketed the phone and released "The Elusive Screaming Chicken," following it out of the window after feeding it.

Yi Pei hesitated slightly but still followed him.

The fog outside was dense, severely limiting visibility. Xu Huo and Yi Pei were extremely cautious when they left, but it still drew the attention of other players. Shortly afterward, two people climbed out from a room, gingerly landing on the ground.

Of course, more people simply hid behind the curtains to watch.

By night, Sifang Palace City was like a dried-up corpse compared to its daytime liveliness, lacking any sign of life. After leaving the city, the only thing they could hear in the woodland was their footsteps.

The heavy fog clogged the air, and as they walked through the forest, it was almost impossible to feel the flow of the breeze, with a sense of oppression coming from all directions, as if they were moving forward under a heavy weight.

The Screaming Chicken walked into the woods, muttering rice, and was getting a bit too far ahead. Yi Pei hesitated, "Didn’t you come this way during the day? Didn’t you find any traces? Would the administrator come here?"

"Daytime is daytime," Xu Huo was uncertain. He just followed to check it out.

After walking a few more steps, he suddenly stopped and turned his head to the right. Through the thick fog, he could barely make out a figure standing less than ten meters from them.

"What’s up?" Yi Pei’s eyesight was not good, and in such conditions, she basically couldn’t see anything. She turned towards Xu Huo’s direction and asked.

"There’s someone there," Xu Huo drew the Crimson Sword and made a slash forward!

The Sword Qi swept across, cutting down the nearby trees, but the figure had vanished before the trees broke.

Yi Pei focused in the direction of the sound, "I didn’t notice anyone; did you see an illusion?"

"Not sure," Xu Huo continued forward with his sword in hand. At such a short distance, he could definitely have heard the person’s heartbeat and breathing. But that figure had appeared out of nowhere, could also move, and yet did not give off the aura of a living person.

A special item?

After delving deeper into the forest, The Elusive Screaming Chicken still showed no sign of stopping. Not far ahead was a water pond, and he halted his steps, turning to say, "Let’s head back."

Yi Pei’s expression suddenly changed, and she violently grabbed his arm, forming words silently with her lips: So many people!

Indeed, the appearance of that shadowy figure was not coincidental. Xu Huo grabbed The Elusive Screaming Chicken with one hand and took hold of Yi Pei’s shoulder with the other, activating his special ability to quickly leave the forest.

"They’re following!" Yi Pei said in a lowered voice during the escape.

Xu Huo also sensed three objects moving around him, even keeping pace with him, but they maintained a certain distance to his left and right and didn’t close in.

"Don’t fight!" Seeing Yi Pei pull out a square box item, he immediately said, "Let’s talk after we get out of the forest."

Yi Pei’s senses were different from Xu Huo’s; she too knew that those "people" were not approaching, but the intense feeling of being squeezed from all around, relayed by her special ability, made her scalp tingle: "Just how many are there...!"

She didn’t finish her sentence when suddenly a woman’s scream rang out nearby.

"It’s the two players who were following us!"

"Help... help me!" The woman’s plea was soon followed by another man’s scream, which after a mere two seconds, abruptly stopped.

The smell of blood began to spread, and something in the forest started to stir, rustling as though snakes and insects were crawling across the grass.

Sensing that something had encircled them from the front as well, Xu Huo stepped on a tree and leaped upward, catching a chord in mid-air to ascend.

"I’ll speed us up!" Yi Pei wedged a rocket model under her arm, and they were both swiftly propelled forward by a blast of force!

Xu Huo retracted the chord twice, only gripping it firmly to land back on the ground when the force from the rocket item was nearly spent.

By then they had reached the vicinity of the hotel, and upon landing, they rushed towards the hotel without delay.

Only after both of them had safely entered the hotel did that sensation, like maggoty parasites watching from behind, completely disappear.

"What exactly was that thing?" Yi Pei asked. "It didn’t feel like a living person. Could it be some special item?"

Too many to count, Xu Huo couldn’t be certain either. He said, "We can’t stay at the hotel anymore. We need to find a new place tomorrow."

Yi Pei immediately withdrew her hand from the embossed decoration on the wall, "Did the mobile capture anything?"

He had been chasing the administrator and hadn’t had the chance to check the video yet.

Xu Huo took out his phone, hesitated for a moment, then put it away again, "We’ll talk about it tomorrow."

Yi Pei nodded, "It’s safer to look at it during the day. I’m going back to my room then."

No sooner had she left than more knocking sounds came from above. Xu Huo returned to the window, and moments later, he saw a player exit through the main door, disappearing into the mist within seconds.

He looked towards the residential courtyard area, hesitated for a moment, but ultimately drew the curtains closed.

The next morning, players started emerging one by one, and the missing individuals were quickly identified.

The couple who had just arrived yesterday, the male player who had a conflict with Xu Huo, and another female player who had arrived two days before him, a total of four people, were missing.

"Didn’t expect you to still be alive," Liu Shiyen said to Xu Huo with surprise. "Did you find any clues last night? Come on, don’t be stingy, let’s hear them?"

"There were clues." Xu Huo scanned Cao Dong, whose eyes were rimmed with dark circles, without leaving a trace. "One is that staying in a homestay is safer than a hotel."

Liu Shiyen smiled insincerely, "Why don’t you stay in a homestay then? The two who left the day before yesterday went missing last night."
