Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Went in the Wrong Direction to Beat the Game
"I’m just kidding around." Yan Jiayu scratched her head under Xu Huo’s gaze, "My master says one must always wear a smile for longevity."
Xu Huo looked at her intently for two seconds, "If I have time, I’ll definitely pay a visit to your master."
Yan Jiayu happily pulled out a pen and paper to write down the address for him.
Meanwhile, Tang Xiao wore an expression as if his worldview had crumbled, repeatedly asking himself, "Why is this happening? I’ve never made a mistake before. Could it have broken when it fell? No, that’s impossible, how could a prop break!"
Xu Huo nodded toward the rope left behind by the Grappling Hook player with his chin, "Props are not omnipotent."
Tang Xiao looked back at the rope and seemed to realize something, turning back with a look of inquiry in his eyes.
But he tactfully didn’t press the matter and instead became even more eager to recruit Xu Huo into his team.
"How many companions do you have?" Xu Huo asked.
"Close to thirty people," Tang Xiao immediately said, "We’ve shared all the methods to play and get through each Game point internally, we can definitely get through them easily."
"I plan to check out the various Game points first. As for cooperating, we can talk about that later," Xu Huo said after a bit of thought.
Disappointment showed on Tang Xiao’s face as he said, "Alright then, if you need help, look for me at either the third or the fifth Game point."
"By the way, which Game point are you heading to next?"
"Bear Bear Pavilion," Yan Jiayu answered.
"Then you’d better hurry," Tang Xiao immediately said, "The bear inside the Pavilion will have its attack power doubled after four in the afternoon. If you reach the Game point after four, I suggest you go in tomorrow instead."
"Thanks." Xu Huo nodded and called Yan Jiayu to leave with him.
Once back on their original path, Yan Jiayu asked, "Why not cooperate with Tang Xiao? Knowing the Game point’s methods in advance would be good for us, and they must have extra Pink Hats. We’ve only gotten the one from the first Game point, there must be someone willing to give us Little Pink Hats from the other points."
Xu Huo saw it differently, "According to him, out of ten Game points and five quiz locations, they have only one quiz location left to find. But even after combining thirty players, they haven’t found it, which indicates that their overall strategy is wrong, or at least not what they think for getting through."
Yan Jiayu understood, "So it’s better if we go to the Game points ourselves to avoid being misled."
Xu Huo nodded and then said, "I’m going to speed up now, can you keep up?"
Yan Jiayu gave a thumbs up and smiled, "Absolutely no problem, I’m really good at running."
Xu Huo stretched a bit, mobilizing all his strength to accelerate into a run, fast enough to leave a blur in the forest.
Yan Jiayu was startled by his speed, but soon chased after him with a competitive spirit.
The two darted through the forest, one ahead of the other, at first drawing the attention of some passing players, some of whom even ran with them for a while, but when they realized they couldn’t keep up with the pace and stamina, they gave up midway.
But by the time they found Bear Bear Pavilion, there were only twenty minutes left until four o’clock.
Bear Bear Pavilion was built next to an ancient huge tree. It had three stories: the first floor was for selling tickets, and the second floor was where the games were played. At that moment, some players were coming down from above, two supporting one in the middle, all with bruised noses and swollen faces, looking miserable. Especially the one being supported, whose toes had become deformed, and the torn shoe bore a not very clear animal paw print.
"That looks rough," Yan Jiayu remarked.
Xu Huo went to buy tickets, and they both went upstairs. A two-meter-tall bear holding a cigar came over to open the door. Upon seeing them, it spat on the ground with a "ptui" and jerked its chin toward the inside of the room, gesturing for them to enter.
Just stepping in, Xu Huo realized that the second floor’s floor was like a layer of jelly-like green substance, slightly elastic, and it made a gurgling sound with each step.
Yan Jiayu eagerly jumped on it twice, then couldn’t wait to ask Uncle Bear, "What’s the game this time? Stepping on toes?"
Uncle Bear leaned back on the leather sofa, took a puff of his cigar, and said through the smoke, "I usually get off work early. You coming now might mean I have to work overtime, so say, don’t you outsiders know that adults working overtime is just like kids being kept in after school? It’s one of life’s annoying little routines. What’s so urgent that you can’t come tomorrow? I was just making coffee. If it gets cold, are you going to take responsibility?"
"But you’re not a person," Yan Jiayu looked at it strangely, "And why would a bear drink coffee? Isn’t honey tea better?"
Uncle Bear glanced at her with a side eye, "I don’t just drink coffee, I also drink meat sauce soup."
Xu Huo peeled a candy and popped it into his mouth from the side.
Uncle Bear gave him a quick glance, then looked at the wall clock, and grinned, showing a set of sharp teeth, "My game is very simple: it’s stepping on toes. But there’s one rule, I step ten times, you only get to step once."
"There are two of you. If either one of you steps on me three times, you can put on the little hat and leave," he said, pointing at two Little Pink Hats hanging on the wall, chuckling with a ’heh heh’.
"I’ll do it!" Yan Jiayu stepped forward, saying to Xu Huo, "You handled the last challenge, leave this one to me!"
Xu Huo stepped back agreeably. He glanced at the little hats deliberately hung to encourage players to take action and cautioned, "If it doesn’t work out, don’t push it. We have plenty more chances."
Yan Jiayu nodded and walked up to Uncle Bear, "We can start now."
The bear put out his cigar, straightened up, stood in front of her, and covered the top of the girl’s head with his paw, "Adults don’t bully children, I’ll let you step once..."
Before the word "step" was fully uttered, Yan Jiayu rapidly stomped on the bear’s paw with such force that it immediately sank into the jelly!
The bear’s face visibly winced in pain, and it lashed out a paw at Yan Jiayu with a gnash of teeth and a grimace!
Yan Jiayu was quick to move, pulling her foot out and running off, shouting, "Now it’s your turn to step on me!"
Uncle Bear roared and chased after her.
The second floor’s jelly-like ground shook violently under the intense chase between the person and the bear. Xu Huo noticed that this jelly substance was somewhat like a soft spring, which increased the bouncing force after being stepped on. People lighter in weight compared to the bulky bear were having a hard time standing stable on it, let alone moving as agile as on solid ground, especially with the bounces caused by the bear’s forceful steps.
If it were an average player, it would be even more difficult to move freely on this surface, not to mention avoiding the bear’s attacks. However, Yan Jiayu did it with surprising ease. Her tiptoes touched the ground, not only undisturbed by the bouncing force but using it to continuously change positions and dodge the bear’s swipes.
"...eight, nine, ten! My turn!" After leading the bear around the room for a few laps and counting the number, she leaped from the top of its head to its back. As it turned around to swipe at her, she ducked and circled back in front, poking her foot on the bear’s paw, "Second time!"
