Chapter 252: The Evolver in the Underground Market

Chapter 252: Chapter 252: The Evolver in the Underground Market

Brother Jie backed away, frightened by Xu Huo’s gaze, and stammered, "Xu, Young Master Xu... This wasn’t my idea, it was revealed by Young Master Yang."

"Yang Chao?" Xu Huo frowned and pointed at the car beside him, "Lead the way."

Brother Jie hurried into the car, while discreetly giving his subordinates a signal. His men carried away the tall, thin man and started the car, leaving first.

Xu Huo sat in the back, kicking the front seat, "Drive faster, we’ll be at Long Xing Tiandu by dawn if you dawdle."

"Y-yes!" Brother Jie stepped on the gas, and the car roared as it accelerated.

When they arrived in Long Xing, it was already past ten at night. Unlike other places, this was when it got lively. Outside, various luxury cars were parked, the cheering and shouting were deafening, and occasionally there were curses heard.

This was where the underground boxing took place, and Brother Jie was leading Xu Huo inside.

Previously, the area behind the ring was for playing cards and resting, but tonight it was pitch black. All the lights were off, yet this did not prevent Xu Huo from proceeding. He still made out the renovated card room, where all tables and chairs had been cleared, replaced by a huge electrified cage.

As they walked in, the door behind them shut, and while Brother Jie was locking the door, he said, "Young Master Xu, don’t blame me for this, you brought it upon yourself."

Xu Huo glanced at him in the darkness without intervening, then turned to look at the people on the platform opposite.

"Xu Huo, haven’t seen you for nearly a decade, you’re still as reckless as before." As a voice came from the platform, lights shone down from above the cage, focusing solely on Xu Huo.

The platform, twenty meters above and completely surrounding the cage, was bustling with clusters of people who all cast their interested gazes on Xu Huo, some even whistling.

Yang Chao stood in the prime spot, cocking his head, he lit a cigarette handed to him by a bodyguard, and after proudly exhaling smoke, said, "Last time you were here, you were in your glory. Bet you didn’t expect to end up as a beast in a cage today."

"We’ve never had a proper player fight here before. You’ve come at the perfect time; let’s see you put on a show."

Applause erupted from the platform, and the spectators began to chant, urging for the fight to start quickly.

Xu Huo looked around the connections to the big iron cage and called out, "Yang Chao, you were trailing behind me in that race ten years ago. What happened afterward, how did Xu Zhi die?"

"Want to know, do you? Beat these Evolvers first," Yang Chao said, touching the scar on his forehead while pulling out a remote control. The gates on all four sides of the cage rose simultaneously, and six people chained with heavy iron locks stepped out.

Their rapid breathing, accelerated heartbeats, and saliva dripping from their mouths all indicated their identities as Evolvers. These individuals seemed to have been starved for quite some time; upon their release, they began drooling over the people inside the cage.

"Bang!" The chains on one of the Evolvers hit the ground, and the next second he pounced on the nearest fellow Evolver, biting through his throat!

Blood spurted out, and then the other Evolvers joined the fray, several of them converging on the one that had been bitten to death. They tore at the fresh flesh with hands and teeth, two of them eating and vomiting simultaneously, then continuing to eat as if the act was not instinct but coercion.

The thick stench of blood with a tinge of foul odor spread out, the cheers gradually faded away, replaced by consecutive sounds of vomiting. People started running away from the platform.

"Hey! Don’t just focus on eating!" Yang Chao slapped the iron bars and shouted at the people below, "Whoever bites a piece of flesh from that kid, I’ll remove an electric shock device from them!"

Several Evolvers, their faces covered in blood and tears streaming mixed with snot, turned in unison to stare at Xu Huo. Their necks, wrists, and ankles were all fitted with metal rings, and parts of their bodies bore surgical scars, obviously all electronic devices.

"I don’t want to fight you..." A man who from the beginning had been tightly hugging his arms and standing in a corner swallowed his saliva and said, "Yang Chao has implanted something in our hearts. You’re a player, right? Save me, I haven’t eaten people..."

Xu Huo put on his glasses, quickly scanned the arrangement around the cage and the positions of the bodyguards on the platform, then swept away the first Evolver who pounced with Sword, and with the betting chip he had casually taken when entering, smashed the spotlight above, plunging the light into darkness!

"Turn on the lights! Turn the lights on quickly!" Yang Chao yelled in the darkness. As the lights outside were turned on, the people on the platform realized that the electric grid of the iron cage had been cut open, and several Evolvers were climbing out, while Xu Huo had disappeared without a trace!

"Damn it! Quick, give me..." Yang Chao lifted the remote control, his call for the bodyguards cut short by the weight he felt on his shoulder. He turned his head and saw Sword resting on it. The arriving bodyguards, holding stun guns and tranquilizer guns, had their barrels aimed behind him, not daring to make a move.

Xu Huo took the remote control from his hand, switched it off and tossed it downward.

As the remote control hit the ground, several Evolvers who had already climbed to the top of the cage violently hung onto the high platform’s structure and flipped over it!

"Ah!!!" The first scream kicked off the chaos; although the Evolvers were still chained, their physical condition was markedly better than before. The civilians on the high platform were overwhelmed, and several armed guards became the first targets.

People continued rolling down from the platform, the spectators, who just minutes before watched cannibalism for entertainment, suddenly became prey themselves, with bloodshed happening before their very eyes.

"Do you see?" Xu Huo said, "This is what happens when you try to control Evolvers with the methods of ordinary people. And these are just a few Evolvers."

Feeling Sword’s edge inch closer to his neck, Yang Chao forced a calm demeanor and said, "Do you think there are no players here?"

Before he could finish, Xu Huo felt someone approaching from behind. He swung Sword back without hesitation, only to hear the sound of wood shattering. A man wearing a trench coat landed lightly on the railing ten meters away, smiling at him. Turning back, Xu Huo realized Yang Chao had already been whisked away by a bare-chested strong man who had appeared on the platform.

"Catch him! Alive!" Yang Chao shouted from a distance.

Xu Huo gave a cold glance, flipping the lighter in his hand, which then clicked several times. Three players, including several nearby bodyguards, were all ablaze!

As the fire started, the three players quickly retreated while the automatic sprinklers of the smoke detectors began to spray water. But the fire spread rapidly and couldn’t be doused in a short period. As the blaze grew, not only the others in the stands but also the bodyguards began to flee.

Anesthetic darts kept flying at him, but Xu Huo didn’t show any mercy. Whoever fired a shot, he set them on fire, all the while moving towards where Yang Chao was.

Yang Chao, showing fear on his face, hid behind the players while backing into a room.
