Chapter 1444: Chapter 1445: Night Operation

Under the stalemate of three sides, the players surrounding Xu Huo and his group eventually left.

Both Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu were well aware of what they had acquired. Since they had not become criminals, it indicated that they hadn’t committed any theft within the castle. The props or items they obtained were accounted for... The most crucial thing was not that, but whether they had already grasped the method to clear the quest.

However, judging from Xu Huo’s earlier proposal to go to Moon City to request The Most Beautiful Gemstone for the King, they seemed to have given up on the first task and were planning to complete the second one instead. This implied that even though they had entered the castle, they hadn’t found any clues related to the stolen gemstones, otherwise, they wouldn’t have sought permission from the King during the performance.

"They haven’t gone far." Yan Jiayu looked around, "Let’s find a place nearby to stay overnight."

Many people in Jewel City had seen Xu Huo and his group perform, so finding a place to stay wasn’t a problem. However, the houses of Jewel City’s residents weren’t large, so the four of them had to split up and stay separately.

The residents who hosted Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu were very friendly. They invited the four of them for supper, and while helping shell beans in the living room, they discussed the events in the castle.

The pink feather pen Xu Huo acquired was definitely a prop. Though it didn’t have much practical use, it was very handy in this instance. He did not tell the other two the function of the feather pen, instead promising to reveal it once they found a way to clear the task.

The veil Yan Jiayu received wasn’t a prop, but the gemstones on it looked valuable.

"Since you were in the castle, why didn’t you inquire about the stolen gemstones?" Li Kun asked, "If you found a clue, we wouldn’t need to go to Moon City at all. Clearing the task over there might not be that easy either."

They had no idea what The Most Beautiful Gemstone looked like.

"Don’t worry about that," Xu Huo said, "The King privately informed me through the Guards that the gemstone is recognizable at a glance."

Duan Cheng and Li Kun were quite speechless— ’That’s it?’

Even if it’s beautiful, it’s still just a gemstone. Could it sprout flowers? The King of Jewel City might be narrow-sighted within this instance, but players who travel outside have seen plenty of good things. Even if they haven’t seen it with their own eyes, there’s plenty of information available on various Collection of Information Terminals and gaming platforms. This statement holds no value!

Yan Jiayu didn’t think this way, "The King of Jewel City owns a city full of gemstones, and has surely seen more strange and rare gemstones than us. If he says so, The Most Beautiful Gemstone must be extraordinary... Maybe it’s exceptionally large. If it’s a whole gemstone as big as a person, it surely would be recognizable at a glance."

"But the instance mentioned the gemstone was taken from an Evil Dragon’s body. I didn’t see any information about the Evil Dragon in Jewel City. What is the Evil Dragon like?"

"It can’t really be a dragon, can it?" Li Kun was successfully diverted, "Maybe it’s some kind of Mutated Lizard. Many zones have mutated animals known as dragons, and their appearances are varied."

"But it’s definitely not big enough to swallow a gemstone as large as a person." f r\eew,eb novel.c(o)(m)

Yan Jiayu chuckled and didn’t reply.

"Are you planning to just head to Moon City?" Duan Cheng looked at Xu Huo, "Are you confident?"

"We have to give it a try even if we’re not sure," Xu Huo said, "The servants inside the castle don’t know the specifics of the gemstone theft. The ones who know the most are the King’s Guards and the King himself. Since we can’t use forceful means to get information from them, we have to try another route."

"Did you guys find anything useful outside today?"

Duan Cheng looked sullen, "There are many rumors about the stolen gemstone in the city, but everyone’s account differs, and it’s no different from the situation at King’s Castle."

Having too much information is equivalent to having no information.

They exchanged glances and sighed. Li Kun said, "I always thought players were strong when entering any zone, but I didn’t expect it to be so difficult to clear tasks by following the rules."

Especially in such an impassable instance, the people here aren’t normal, and normal communication is impossible. To make it worse, outsiders lying could be labeled as ’fraudsters’, while it’s perfectly fine for residents of Jewel City to each have a different account. They all believe what they say is true, and even when confronted, each side can harmoniously compromise or endlessly discuss, claiming they heard it from someone else and might have heard wrong... It feels as powerless and frustrating as going in circles with a robotic customer service.

"The city gates are already closed at night, let’s head out sometime tomorrow," Duan Cheng called Li Kun, carrying supper back to the room next door.

"Jewel City allows entry but no exit, can people who leave through unofficial means return?" Yan Jiayu asked.

"Hard to say," Xu Huo stared out the window. Although it’s not recorded in the Code of Laws, it doesn’t guarantee that temporary regulations won’t have binding force.

"It’s still early. Have something to eat and rest for a while first."

They had supper with the hosts and only went to their rooms to rest after freshening up.

Late at night, Yan Jiayu quietly slipped out of her room and was about to call Xu Huo when she found him already standing in front of her. She didn’t speak but gestured outside and then pointed to her face.

Putting on a protective mask, Xu Huo placed a hand on her shoulder, opened the door in front of them, and stepped forward. The two of them found themselves on a street several hundred meters away.

By this time, there were very few people still active on the streets. Occasionally, they spotted one or two players peeking from outside houses, but due to Jewel City’s laws, they didn’t even dare to step into a yard.

In the less prosperous areas on the outskirts of the city, it was even more so. Apart from some shops needing to tally inventory, almost everyone had turned off their lights and gone to bed by this hour. When the lights went out, even a city made of gemstones would dim.

Xu Huo and his group were heading to the street where the disappeared craftsman was before.

Crouching at the street corner, Yan Jiayu tossed a piece of fruit candy in her mouth, scanning the surroundings, "Which spot are you keeping an eye on?"

"The house at the six o’clock direction," Xu Huo said, "Someone’s about to come out."

Sure enough, just as he finished speaking, they saw a window being opened from inside, and someone peeked out furtively before slowly climbing out after confirming no one was around. They tightened the cloak around themselves and swiftly moved along the shadow cast by the house toward a distant location.

Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu remained where they were, as the person was heading not far away, just across the street to an old lady’s house. The lady, knowing someone was coming, sat by the window. After the person entered, she lowered the window.

"I’ll go in and take a look." Xu Huo used the Spiritual World to encompass the house.

At that moment, Yan Jiayu suddenly glanced to the left and whispered, "Wait here, I’ll go check it out."
