Chapter 1248: Chapter 1249: The Forever Incomplete Hand
The original number of flower cards held by players at the scene was eight—five black flower cards and three white flower cards. After Xue Lang entered, one black and one white card were added.
Currently, there are two ways to circulate the poker cards. The first is killing and robbing: when a player is killed, all their cards automatically transfer to the killer. However, there’s one issue—if the total number of cards exceeds six, the killer’s cards will undergo random loss until there are only six left.
Therefore, this method carries a certain risk of losing valuable cards.
The second method involves directly trading with six Exchange Cards. The prerequisite for trading is that the owner of the Exchange Card must know exactly what cards the other party holds—it’s useless to shout blindly, and testing one by one is impossible.
It’s unclear who holds the first eight cards, but the final Black Gemstone Cloak and White Rainbow Diamond Necklace are undoubtedly in Xue Lang’s possession.
Facing Xu Huo’s questioning, Xue Lang glanced at the illuminated flower cards ahead, "Six black cards, four white ones, dare you say you have more white cards in your hand?"
"Perhaps I really do have more white cards," Xu Huo replied. "You could think of it this way—if I hold more white cards, that means I don’t have any black ones. The remaining five black cards must be with other players, so you still have a chance to complete a set."
"But bear in mind, there are quite a few Exchange Cards in play."
"Everyone knows what cards you have—a black and a white, missing one of each," he added.
Xue Lang silently laughed, "Who dares to call out the cards? Anyone who tries will die. Everyone here, including you, counts as my opponent, no?"
"Not to mention, there are only six Exchange Cards in a deck, and there are currently just four here."
The poker wall displayed only Black 3, White 3, White 10, and Black 17 Exchange Cards—using all four could only trade four cards.
"Is that so?" Xu Huo flexed his fingers. "Then let me call out one."
"How about trading my White Gemstone Cloak for your Black Gemstone Cloak?"
The number 3 card was an Exchange Card, and Xu Huo happened to hold one. His declaration targeted Xue Lang’s card, indicating the trade was successful.
Xue Lang was slightly surprised to find that Xu Huo still retained an Exchange Card, and after a moment of surprise, he sneered viciously, "What a pity—you’ll never complete your black card set now."
Xu Huo understood his implication, "Either the black cards transfer to you, or you kill everyone here to reset the cards back into the maze—am I correct?"
Xue Lang didn’t refute, and his grim expression confirmed Xu Huo’s statement to the other players.
Besides Xu Huo’s companions, only eight others remained near the finish line, and two had already been killed, leaving six players who now seemed weak and divided.
Of course, anyone who becomes a Rank-C Player must have some degree of skill—at least enough to hold their ground visibly. While they quietly prepared props, a thin line suddenly swept silently across the ground, directly severing the feet of two players!
The sudden turn of events shocked all the players, especially the two who lost their legs. They hadn’t spotted the prop used or even the attacker!
"Pulling this trick again," Xu Huo remarked, expanding his Spiritual World and using a Materialized Item to block the Spatial Ray. He simultaneously moved the injured players behind him and said to Xue Lang, "If everyone dies, the game won’t work anymore. You plan to reset and fight again, don’t you?"
"I don’t believe that prop of yours can be used a second time," Xue Lang replied in a deep voice.
The stronger the prop, the stricter the restrictions—especially one with such nearly unavoidable killing capabilities!
"Feel free to guess again," Xu Huo said. "You guessed I hold more black cards earlier; now you can guess my prop can’t be used consecutively. Perhaps you’ll guess right?"
He retrieved the "Precise Hit" card while gripping a pen in his other hand.
Xue Lang squinted, sharply assessing him and the card in his hand. Moments later, Xue Lang declared, "I don’t believe your prop can still function!"
As his words fell, four rays shot in from both sides!
Mu Yan, who had traveled with Xu Huo earlier, was the most knowledgeable about the danger of these rays and immediately shouted, "Basic props can’t block that—quick, dodge!"
"Don’t underestimate us!" Jiang Zifeng laughed heartily, pulling out a one-meter-high Crystal Pillar and thrusting it into the ground. A light breeze swept across the room, visibly disrupting the moving rays, making them more discernible than before!
Without wasting words, Jiang Zifeng reminded Ye Bingxin and the others to use Spatial Artifacts to counter, "Spatial-based Super Evolution is strong, but just like time-based or mind-based Super Evolution, you only need the right instruments to deal with them. I bought this Interference Device at a hefty price from Wormhole Point players—good enough to handle a Rank-B Evolver!"
Though injuries didn’t weaken the use of Super Evolution Power, they did affect timing. Xue Lang, wounded by Spatial Power, couldn’t recover quickly, and while he struggled back to District 001 from other partitions, his control over Spatial Rays was no longer as free as before. Now confronted with the Interference Device, the ray’s power diminished, no longer invisible or untouchable.
"Just a Rank-B Player!" The surviving players regained their spirits—even if unable to acquire props of higher rank from the instance, couldn’t they still buy Rank-B props?
One middle-aged man with an impressive amount of hair flung a transparent spherical object forward. Upon hitting the ground, it shattered into dozens of rhombic fragments that formed a large shield!
Unfortunately, the ray’s power persisted, slicing the shield clean in half.
The middle-aged man appeared slightly startled but quickly manipulated the shield halves to overlap again. After being sliced another time, he stacked four pieces together, then eight, then sixteen... After multiple attempts and several position shifts, they seemed to finally block the ray.
Just as the man let out a relieved sigh, Xu Huo suddenly appeared in front of him. His hand, wrapped as if by a black glove, suddenly lunged at the side of his neck!
The middle-aged man instinctively moved to counterattack, but the ground beneath his feet vanished into a sudden gate, and he dropped from midair two meters away. Meanwhile, Xu Huo had already grasped the ray released by Xue Lang.
The other rays inside the room disappeared—the ray’s one end was held by Xu Huo, while the other remained under Xue Lang’s control. Xue Lang smiled triumphantly, "Seems I was right—your prop can’t be used consecutively."
As he spoke, he raised his hand to block an attack launched by Jiang Zifeng from behind. With a flick of his finger, he sent Jiang Zifeng flying. However, he quickly noticed something amiss—after being thrown back, Jiang Zifeng quickly turned around and used a prop to lock onto Xue Lang, creating an attraction effect. Normally, Jiang Zifeng should have returned along the same trajectory, but Xue Lang instead sensed him appearing on the opposite side!
Suddenly sensing an anomaly, Xue Lang immediately looked up at the person before him.
