Chapter 1226: Chapter 1227: Childhood Shadow

Xue Lang no longer held back after estimating the maze instance’s layout; his speed and destructive power multiplied, forcing Xu Huo to fully open his Spiritual World just to evade the attacks.

The rays in his hands were clearer within the Spiritual World, but this didn’t make them easier to track. On the contrary, their unique powers could even slice through a Space Portal directly.

As a result, even though Xu Huo could move quickly within the Spiritual World to dodge the rays, the maze passages were relatively expansive, and the sixteen rays could only cover a small section. If he chose not to confront head-on, the area covered by the Spiritual World was free for him to move as he pleased.

After transferring his Spiritual World multiple times, Xu Huo used the maze walls to create distance from Xue Lang, and then paused in a relatively safe spot for a moment.

About five seconds later, Xue Lang reappeared in front of him.

Of course, if they were fighting in an open space, even with his Spiritual World fully deployed, Xu Huo wouldn’t necessarily gain much advantage; Xue Lang’s abilities were limited by the maze.

The surrounding maze walls were heavily damaged during the chase. When Xue Lang caught up again, his face was furious, with an even deeper murderous intent burning in his eyes.

"Your rays can extend roughly 100 meters in any direction. Beyond this range, your control over them weakens significantly, making it far from possible to kill at a distance." Xu Huo analyzed Xue Lang’s abilities while retreating, carefully observing his expression.

"Trying to counter me with that trick?" Xue Lang sneered. "Do you think Doctor Zhang only taught you emotional control?"

Xu Huo narrowly dodged a killing blow, rolling to the ground before swiftly getting back on his feet. Ignoring the bleeding wound on his shoulder, he navigated through his Spiritual World once more, darting behind two maze walls about two meters away before stopping. The moment he halted, the walls in front of him were immediately sliced into pieces, and Xue Lang burst through, merging sixteen rays into a whip-like beam that lashed forward!

The damage wasn’t limited to the maze walls behind Xu Huo; even his Spiritual World was sliced apart.

Two maze walls plus the passage in between amounted to roughly 100 meters of width, yet the converged rays managed to horizontally cut through four walls in one strike. Within an incredibly short span, they even collapsed Xu Huo’s Spiritual World momentarily!

The Spiritual World, though controlled by psychic power, impacted reality. Naturally, reality could also directly affect the Spiritual World—as long as the strength was sufficient.

Regaining distance once more, Xu Huo confined his Spiritual World to a radius of 100 meters, simultaneously condensing his psychic power into a Materialized Gate.

After his third Evolution, his psychic power had matured enough to form solid materialized items that could act as weapons. However, regardless of Xue Lang’s level of Super Evolution, severing the rays proved nearly impossible. Thus, Xu Huo had to test whether he could block their attacks.

The black Materialized Gate was half a meter thick, with a Mental Portal opened on both its front and back sides. The rays easily sliced through the first portal, and the Materialized Gate failed to act as a barrier... yet at the moment the rays passed through, Xu Huo sensed something distinct—akin to the first time he touched a Spatial Ray in the Cubic Space.

The materialized item crafted from psychic power amplified the presence of the fine Spatial Ray.

After the first two portals were cut through, Xu Huo quickly opened a third portal to redirect himself out of the rays’ trajectory. As Xue Lang turned again and launched an attack, Xu Huo manifested the Materialized Gate directly in the rays’ path.

Unexpectedly, as the rays neared the gate, they vanished—only for Xue Lang to suddenly charge at him, reaching single-handedly for his throat.

Xu Huo stepped back half a pace and vanished through a Space Portal at his location.

Xue Lang’s attack missed, but his sharp gaze locked onto Xu Huo’s future emergence point within seconds. His sword-like hand stabbed through the Mental Portal before it had fully opened.

Though his hand penetrated through, what stood behind the portal wasn’t Xu Huo—but a small, shadowy figure.

Xue Lang’s hand pierced the shadow’s chest and abdomen, yet when he attempted to pull his fingers out, he discovered they were tightly trapped. The shadow began flowing like liquid up his arm, swiftly engulfing it. The entity edged closer, leaning toward Xue Lang’s ear and whispering softly, "Xiao Liang."

Xue Lang’s eyes darkened. His other hand reached to seize the shadow’s head, twisting it off without hesitation. "Xu Huo, shrinking yourself like this—it won’t scare me! Do you have some misunderstanding about your childhood self? Without Doctor Zhang, you’d have died seven or eight times in that hospital!"

Although the shadow’s head appeared detached, a tether extended from its neck, and remnants continued clinging to Xue Lang, attempting to crawl further onto him.

Receiving no response, Xue Lang stepped back two paces, then summoned his rays to slice toward the shadow.

The shadow split into pieces as intended, but the fragments clinging to Xue Lang persisted, while those cut away swiftly rejoined his body after hitting the ground.

"Xiao Liang, what is this? I want to play too." The shadow extended a hand from his arm to grasp at the rays, only to be cut off instantly.

"Xiao Liang, what is this? I want to play too." The shadow repeated its words while stretching another hand toward the rays, which was also repeatedly severed.

Seeing he could not rid himself of the shadow, Xue Lang raised his arm—and a Gyro appeared in his hand. As the Gyro spun, it emitted a sharp, oscillating sound wave that peeled the shadow from his arm at once.

The shadow pooled onto the ground, sliding away three meters before reshaping into a humanoid form. It bore no face—nor mouth—but still produced a human voice: "Xiao Liang, what are you playing? I want to play too."

"Shut your damn mouth!" Xue Lang growled. The rays in his hand split apart, slicing the shadow into strips with swift strikes.

But the pieces of shadow quickly reassembled after hitting the ground, standing before him once again, repeating its calls.

Turning back toward Xu Huo’s hidden location, Xue Lang growled deeply, "Killing you amounts to the same outcome!"

The illusions and hallucinations emanating from Xu Huo made it unnecessary to battle with the shadow—eliminating the source was sufficient!

Yet, as Xue Lang swung his rays to attack, resistance emerged suddenly. The force restrained and redirected the rays, fixing them at a single point to his rear left.

When he turned to look, the shadow had extended a hand—a hand that held his rays.

Xue Lang’s expression changed.

The rays disappeared from his grasp.

"Xiao Liang, let’s play together," the shadow continued speaking.

Xue Lang glared at it before charging forward, his twisted expression collapsing into unrestrained rage as he smashed a fist through the shadow’s head. "Play my ass!"

The shadow once again lost its head, and this time, its body was shredded into pieces. Refusing to stop there, Xue Lang retrieved a prop, pinning every fragment to the ground with a snarl: "Should’ve killed you long ago!"
