Chapter 1213: The Players Who Entered First

Chapter 1213: Chapter 1213: The Players Who Entered First

The Truth Serum doesn’t completely strip the player of their ability to think or render them entirely irrational. For evolved players, the extent of its effect varies by person. What’s uttered may be the truth, but how truthful it is can’t be guaranteed.

Seeing the female player hesitate to answer the second question, Jiang Zifeng said, "Alright, then let’s go for another dose. I’ve got plenty of Truth Serum here."

"I’ll talk," the female player said decisively. "My plan was to use a prop to separate you two, then ambush him. If I succeeded, great. If not, I’d use a Teleportation Prop to escape."

"Not entirely truthful," Xu Huo remarked after listening. "She had prepared at least five props earlier — one of which likely initiates an underground attack."

Jiang Zifeng pointed to himself and then to Xu Huo, asking her, "Both of us are standing right in front of you. Why do you want to kill me first?"

The female player, initially stunned and frightened by Xu Huo’s words, involuntarily answered, "Because you’re more annoying to look at..."

Jiang Zifeng touched his own face. "I mean, I wouldn’t call myself godlike handsome, but I’m at least decent-looking. How am I this unlikable? Seems like I should get a new face after this is over."

"Let’s get back on topic," Xu Huo interrupted.

"How many cards do you have now?"

"Just one," the female player replied with the same answer as before. "The card’s effect was indeed revealed to me by someone else because someone had already obtained number card 12 before me."

The number card 12 was undoubtedly a Trap Card, as the white card 12 was currently in Xu Huo’s possession.

However, it was clear she wasn’t referring to He Xiaoxiao, who originally held this card.

The female player continued, "Before I got the black card 12, this card had already been circulating in the maze."

Xu Huo and Jiang Zifeng exchanged a glance. Xu Huo said, "You mean the previous owner of number card 12 had already died before you entered the game, which allowed you to obtain it."

"When did you enter the game?"

"This morning."

"That’s about the same time as us," Jiang Zifeng commented. "You didn’t encounter players who entered the instance at the same time as you but met others who were already ahead of you?"

"I’m not like you," she replied. "I don’t care about getting a high rating; I just want to make it to the end and clear the game. So, unless the maze walls attacked me first, I rarely triggered any of them. It’s normal for me to reach the front faster," she said, her face showing regret. "That’s how I encountered players left over from earlier rounds of fighting."

"Every player can hold up to six cards," Jiang Zifeng said. "If those people had been here much longer than us, they wouldn’t be chasing after you; their hands would already be full."

"Not necessarily." Xu Huo shook his head slightly. "Maybe they’re only after specific cards, or it’s possible they found a way to remove cards from their slots in the second half of the maze."

After speaking, he looked at the female player.

Reluctantly, she said, "There’s a type of card among the number cards that can cancel out any card other than the first one. But such cards are rare."

"Canceling cards?" Jiang Zifeng rubbed his chin. "Sounds interesting."

"So, number cards are categorized too: clue cards, canceling cards, trap cards... There are probably other types as well."

As he spoke, he also looked at the female player.

She clearly didn’t want to reveal anything more. In instances, information could often save lives, but it was also a double-edged sword.

"I don’t know anything else," she said. "These things I overheard, and at a great cost..." She glanced down at herself before continuing: "But I did hear those people mention that flower cards are highly valuable and tied to the final game rating."

"The players who came in earlier might not have been from just one round," Xu Huo noted. "They may have entered more than a day earlier than us too. If they’ve figured out the gameplay, going back from the endpoint to snatch cards isn’t impossible."

"I agree," Jiang Zifeng said, cracking his knuckles, his eagerness showing. "Doesn’t that mean someone ahead of us has already collected cards for us? We just need to rob one, and we’re automatically in the second half of the game!"

"Plenty of time anyway. I might even complete a full house while I’m at it!"

Xu Huo fully agreed.

The female player, looking at the two men who exuded confidence, tried to hide her disdain and said, "That’s all I know. Can you let me go now?"

"Do as you like," Jiang Zifeng waved her off. "But in your current condition, you won’t recover anytime soon. You may as well rest here. Don’t worry, we won’t harm you."

He then turned back to Xu Huo. "Let’s compete another time."

"No objections." Xu Huo took out a shelter and prepared to rest.

Jiang Zifeng, who had a luxurious prop tent, set it up. It was much roomier than the shelter, and he kindly invited both Xu Huo and the female player to stay in it.

Still wary of them, the female player didn’t leave immediately but kept a safe distance. She laid out a simple sleeping bag on the ground and sat down to heal her injuries.

By midnight, a thick fog rose within the maze. Visibility beyond ten meters was almost nonexistent, and the fog seemed to have a perception-blocking effect, significantly limiting their pre-warning range.

Xu Huo opened the door and stepped out, coincidentally running into Jiang Zifeng, who had just exited the tent. "Let’s take turns keeping watch."

Jiang Zifeng nodded and turned back to the tent.

Not long after, the female player shuffled closer, cautiously placing her sleeping bag in front of the shelter.

Xu Huo, watching a montage of mutated plants he’d filmed earlier, noticed her restless movements and asked, "How many mutated plants do you recognize?"

She was now able to move. Taking the initiative, she approached Xu Huo and glanced at the footage out of curiosity. "Why are you filming so many mutated plants?"

"Personal interest," Xu Huo replied. "But it’s my first time in District 001, so I don’t know much about the plants here."

The female player turned out to have deep knowledge in this area. Using his footage as a reference, she began identifying their names, classifications, and even describing some of their habits in detail.

"Most of the plants in the maze originate from District 001. Many are laboratory-cultivated variants. Some of the plants were originally edible, but their mutations absorbed traits from other plants. After gigantism, they usually gain offensive or toxic properties, and some even intentionally retain smaller versions for reproduction, catching others off guard."

"You’ve already recorded quite a lot."

After hearing her explanation, Xu Huo said, "So many of the plants derived from District 001’s labs don’t have specific light requirements?"

"Normal plants need long growth periods to get this big, but the ones in the maze don’t. They’re grown using nutrients," the female player explained. "Card City’s famous flower-bud vegetables, for instance — the mutated version grows up to ten meters tall in under two months. However, such plants don’t live long, usually lasting six months at most, sometimes just three to four."

In other words, the only potential landmarks within the maze had lost their navigational reliability.
