Chapter 1212: Chapter 1212 The Wonderful Uses of Truth Serum

"The clue might be fake, but when I followed the indicated direction, the chance of encountering a hint did increase. I must’ve gone the right way, though I didn’t expect the passage to open, wasting the entire trip," Jiang Zifeng shook his head.

"I also received a directional clue." Xu Huo compared notes with him. Despite starting from different points, after adjusting their routes, both clues pointed in the same direction.

"Looks like my luck isn’t too bad after all," Jiang Zifeng smiled. "Even though I took a futile detour, meeting a companion makes up for it—that’s worth celebrating!"

His enthusiasm seemed innate. After finishing the drink in his cup, he invited Xu Huo to share the mushroom soup.

While eating, the two began sorting out the information gathered since entering the maze. Jiang Zifeng and Xu Huo held similar views: they believed the maze definitely contained more than fifty-four cards. Even with just twelve face cards, there couldn’t only be twenty-one of each numbered card in black and white.

"If there aren’t enough cards, the game simply won’t continue." Jiang Zifeng raised his bowl toward Xu Huo. "You must have picked up cards apart from the first card. I grabbed two as well."

"A few strong players alone could wipe out the cards—what happens next? Would everyone just wander around aimlessly in the maze?"

Xu Huo nodded slightly. "Even so, the instance requires a sufficient number of players to proceed."

Jiang Zifeng agreed with his viewpoint. "Still, we don’t know exactly how many will enter. If we move too far ahead while others are just starting from the entry point, the cards may not end up being enough."

Xu Huo looked at him. "What card are you aiming for?"

"Of course, I want to grab a face card. If I don’t land a face card, a straight would work too," Jiang Zifeng replied cheerfully. "Cards—there aren’t really many tricks to them. The better the design, the better."

"But then again, who knows? Maybe higher-scoring game hints will show up later in the maze. For now, it’s still early."

Xu Huo nodded and scooped another bowl of soup.

At that moment, Jiang Zifeng’s movements froze. He waved his hand in front of his face and, with a slightly sluggish gaze, followed the movement of his fingers. "I see double."

"I’m fine," Xu Huo said, even taking another sip of soup.

Jiang Zifeng’s head began swaying lightly from side to side, seemingly involuntarily. He gave Xu Huo a thumbs-up. "I admire you! We’re the same kind of people!"

The minor poisoning didn’t affect his appetite. He and Xu Huo teamed up to finish the soup in the pot entirely, after which he lay down for a rest, quickly closing his eyes and breathing evenly, appearing to have fallen asleep.

Xu Huo glanced at him briefly before turning around to tidy up.

One had their eyes closed, the other had their back turned. The air became quiet.

By the time Xu Huo finished washing the pots and bowls, Jiang Zifeng, now detoxified, sprang up energetically. "Anyway, since we’re full and idle, why don’t we compete for speed?"

"No props, no characteristics—let’s see who runs the fastest. Of course, physical evolution traits don’t count."

"We’ll limit it to twenty minutes. During running, you also need to touch the walls of the maze. Whoever touches more maze walls while running faster wins. How about it?"

"No problem," Xu Huo agreed readily. After a quick warm-up, the two began sprinting at Jiang Zifeng’s signal.

Without using props or characteristics, Xu Huo naturally refrained from using Spatial Power, though his energy had received enhancements twice before, so he was physically strong and, of course, no slouch in speed.

Jiang Zifeng, also a Rank-C Player and a veteran, clearly didn’t fall short in Evolution Rate. When he ran, there was a distinctive grace about him—not the explosive power seen in Xu Huo, but a remarkable lightness.

After rounding two passages, they were still neck and neck. Jiang Zifeng laughed out loud, "No hard feelings! My characteristic is physical evolution—catch me if you can!"

With that, he surged forward, moving rapidly like leaves swept by the wind, constantly grazing the maze walls as he went—not only fulfilling the competition requirements but also creating hurdles for Xu Huo.

Xu Huo, navigating the mutant plants springing up around him, bounded nimbly between them, using their movement to boost his speed. Before long, he caught up to Jiang Zifeng once again.

Jiang Zifeng, seeing this, kindled a fighting spirit and accelerated anew.

Xu Huo didn’t hold back either, rapidly catching up to him for the second time.

The two took turns overtaking each other, neither willing to back down. It wasn’t long before the decisive moment approached, only for the unexpected to appear—a person staggered out suddenly from the wall of the maze ahead. They were severely injured and appeared dazed, seemingly not reacting even as the two players drew nearer...

Xu Huo and Jiang Zifeng stopped almost simultaneously. Whether due to severe injuries or fright, the female player crumpled to the ground at the sight of the two approaching players.

She hadn’t completely lost consciousness, using a metal prop to try to support herself and stand up.

"Don’t get worked up," Jiang Zifeng said from where he stood. "We’re not scavengers looking to exploit others in despair."

The female player didn’t trust them, forcing herself to say, "I’m Black 12—a Trap Card. Useless to you..."

With that, she collapsed outright.

Jiang Zifeng poked her foot with a snapped twig. When he didn’t get a response, he turned to Xu Huo and said, "Let’s help her. If she only has her starting card but knows its effects, she might also know other instance details."

Xu Huo didn’t object.

Jiang Zifeng made the female player drink a potion, then pinched her arm hard. She instantly woke up with a start, half-lying on the ground.

Jiang Zifeng didn’t think his method of waking someone had any issue and directly asked, "How many cards do you have?"

"One. I only have one card." The female player, smart enough to understand their intentions, immediately responded, "I’m telling the truth. You can use props and potions to test me. The card’s effect was revealed to me by another player. I also know some other things."

Jiang Zifeng took out a syringe. "Enhanced Truth Serum."

Knowing she couldn’t resist, the female player hesitated briefly before extending her arm.

After injecting the serum, Jiang Zifeng tested her blood concentration with an instrument, confirming the potion’s efficacy before asking, "What’s the most humiliating moment of your life?"

Both Xu Huo and the female player stared at him.

"What—this isn’t a good question?" Jiang Zifeng asked seriously. "If someone can disclose their most humiliating moment, what secret could they possibly still keep?"

"How are you going to confirm whether I’m telling the truth?" the female player asked through gritted teeth.

"Depends on just how humiliating what you say is," Jiang Zifeng answered matter-of-factly.

With that, even Xu Huo began to suspect whether Jiang Zifeng had strange tastes. To avoid needless complications, he stepped forward and said, "I’ll ask the questions."

He grabbed a prop chair, helped the female player up to sit, and stared her straight in the eye. "First question—do you want to kill us both?"

The female player was shocked, lifting her gaze. Facing his cold stare, her body trembled slightly before reluctantly admitting, "Yes."

Xu Huo smiled faintly and continued, "Second question—how do you plan to kill us?"
