Chapter 1210: Six Cards
Chapter 1210: Chapter 1210: Six Cards
"Is that so?" Xu Huo chuckled, "So the custom in your hometown is to poison teammates? Or to poison people you’ve just met?"
He Xiaoxiao’s emotions shifted naturally, "Shouldn’t it be? It’s always wise to be cautious. If you had my skills, wouldn’t you use them?"
"That’s reasonable." Xu Huo agreed wholeheartedly, "So I didn’t take it personally."
He Xiaoxiao’s expression softened at his words, "You’re a reasonable man, and the poison I gave you is slow-acting. It’s not immediately fatal. As long as you leave the instance, it’s not hard to buy an antitoxin."
Xu Huo thought about it and nodded decisively, "But you’ve already ruined your trustworthiness, isn’t it time to make amends?"
"Can I hug my cat?" He Xiaoxiao asked, "They’ve already been chopped up by you anyway."
"Suit yourself," Xu Huo motioned for her to take care of it herself.
He Xiaoxiao tentatively stood up. Discovering she could leave the chair, she immediately rushed to the nearest prop cat, picked up the rubber halves, pieced them together, and hugged it tightly in her arms.
She only stood there for a second before returning to sit down.
Holding the fake cat seemed to calm her nerves. Her expression relaxed as she continued, "Black Card 14 is indeed a drawing card, and White Card 19—I didn’t lie about that. Its effect isn’t simply leading you astray; it’s the maze walls within a 500-meter radius rearranging themselves."
"And White Card 8?" Xu Huo stared at her, "Assuming the other cards are as you said, White Card 8 has already changed hands once. You should know the effect by now, right?"
"It’s a Trap Card," He Xiaoxiao replied, "Specifically, it randomly triggers five attacks from mutant plants..."
Before she could finish speaking, the short dagger in her hand suddenly swept forward, leaving a crescent-like light trail as it sliced through Xu Huo’s throat while he sat in his chair!
As the figure in the chair vanished, He Xiaoxiao seemed to break free from the constraints of psychic power. She looked up briefly at the real Xu Huo still standing in the distance, snorted with laughter, and said, "I knew someone as cunning as you wouldn’t make the ’villains die because they talk too much’ rookie mistake! Farewell!"
A black vortex suddenly grew in front of her, and the immense suction enveloped her entirely. Just as she was about to be transported away, a knife stabbed through her heart from behind.
Seeing the bloody blade protruding from her chest, He Xiaoxiao tried to turn around but heard the person behind say, "But you did."
He Xiaoxiao’s face twisted in vehement anger, blood choking her words as she spat, "Should’ve gone with lethal poison from the start..."
"When the poisoning failed, you should’ve realized it wasn’t about the lethality of the poison." Xu Huo pulled out the "Cake Cutter," briskly flicked the blood off the blade, and took over her player inheritance and playing cards.
He originally had three cards. Adding He Xiaoxiao’s five, he now had more than six, which immediately triggered random loss. When he opened his personal panel, his instance tab only displayed six cards left.
The first card, Black Card 1, along with the Black Card: Flower Scepter remained unchanged.
The Cannibal Player’s first card, White Card 8, turned out to be a Counter Card. Its effect was to cancel any card except the first card. Once activated, both the White Card 8 and the selected card it cancels disappear together from the card frame.
No wonder He Xiaoxiao made such a hasty retreat—this truly was a rare card. If you got your hands on a powerful Trap Card, the Counter Card might be the only effective way to remove it besides random loss. Additionally, it reduced two cards at once, which helped increase storage capacity.
Black Card 11, as He Xiaoxiao claimed, was indeed a Clue Card, though its content differed.
"The maze’s endpoint lies directly to your left front at this moment."
The left front just happened to correspond to the direction Xu Huo had been heading.
Lingering on the card’s surface for only a brief moment, he proceeded to check the others.
White Card 12 was He Xiaoxiao’s first card, a Trap Card that teleported the player to the nearest dead-end.
The instant he finished reading the card, a force pushed him through several turns and changes in direction until stopping him at a dead wall in front of him.
Black Card 14 was a Drawing Card.
The total of six cards meant this Black Card 14 must be different from the one Lin Qian had previously acquired, as this card was a player’s first card. The effects of playing cards were well-camouflaged—unless this instance contained more than one Black Card 14.
As for Black Card 11, it got interesting. He Xiaoxiao claimed it said, "The maze’s endpoint is due east of the next passage," but when it came into Xu Huo’s hands, it read, "The maze’s endpoint lies directly to your left front at this moment." It’s hard to say that He Xiaoxiao lied, as White Card 19’s content also changed.
When He Xiaoxiao finished reading White Card 19, the maze walls indeed shifted immediately in effect, presumably coming from the card. However, the Cannibal Player claimed it was a Trap Card, with the result being direction confusion.
Both cards’ effects showed discrepancies after changing hands. Black Card 11 remained a Clue Card, albeit with altered content, while White Card 19 seemed to have shifted even its innate properties. He Xiaoxiao’s card reading effect wasn’t entirely a trap—in fact, it helped her evade enemies temporarily.
From these two cards, it appears that playing cards only grant one-time effects, but their effects change upon changing hands.
Suppose White Card 19 remains a Trap Card—in that case, both Clue Cards and Trap Cards undergo content alterations after their ownership changes.
Counter Cards and Drawing Cards, however, did not.
Of course, this might also be because these two cards had not yet triggered effects in the current scenario, leaving their mutability uncertain.
Xu Huo returned to his card frame and chose the Black Card 14 to draw.
Upon selection, three playing cards appeared before him. On identical card backs, devoid of color or markings, he could see no clues to assist in picking.
"Let’s test my luck," Xu Huo casually selected one card. Turning it over revealed White Card 6, which read:
"The nearest Black Flower Card to you is the Pure Gold Boots, located two hours normal walking distance away at your ten o’clock direction."
This was a card marking the location of the Flower Cards.
Although the Flower Cards provided no direct hints, their scarcity and the existence of cards specifically marking their positions showcased their significance within the instance.
Regardless, the concept of "Flower Cards have value" was undoubtedly imprinted in the minds of the players. Some might even know more but kept silent about it.
"Two hours on foot" and "ten o’clock direction" only offered general positioning for the cardholder. Even if he rushed over, the individual holding the card wouldn’t wait idly in place. After he attempted a position change, the card’s details remained static.
This meant that it was also a "one-time use" card.
However, based on the cards obtained so far, various numbered cards served distinct purposes, with properties and content not fixed. This multiplied the effects of limited cards, enriching the instance’s mechanics. But still, one issue persisted—even under such conditions, the cards could not circulate efficiently.
