Chapter 1189: One or Two Idiots
Chapter 1189: Chapter 1189: One or Two Idiots
The Cannibal Player wasn’t about to sit idly by either. A faint glimmer flashed in front of him, and the white gauze was instantly cut open. Remaining in a kneeling position, he turned around, slapped the bottom of the car twice with both hands, and a massive Man-Eating Flower sprang up, its spiked petals snapping ferociously toward the female Player!
The female Player avoided the attack effortlessly, but the flower’s sprayed secretion burned through her sleeve. She glanced down briefly, then flicked out several crescent-shaped Props as thick as fingers.
The knife-like Props spun rapidly within the carriage, targeting the Cannibal Player with precise attacks that forced him out of the car.
At this point, they could’ve ended the fight by shutting the carriage door. Yet neither side seemed to have such intentions. After being pushed outside, the Cannibal Player shoved a pill into his mouth, then dropped to the ground. Within seconds, scales began to grow on his exposed hands and feet, his physique visibly enlarging. It was clear his strength had greatly increased compared to before.
His speed improved as well. Just as the female Player was about to move into the transition car, he leapt fiercely to the door, colliding directly with her face-to-face. Despite being partially cushioned by her Defense Prop, the impact forced the female Player back into the car. She barely found her footing before the Cannibal Player pressed her again!
On top of that, it seemed the Cannibal Player had gotten smarter. Knowing that physical contact with her caused muscle paralysis, he put on a protective suit. With its elastic and mildly corrosion-resistant fabric shielding him, the Cannibal Player was now free to exploit his advantages without restraint.
Under the relentless series of attacks, the female Player seemed visibly strained. Close-range combat didn’t appear to be her forte. Within just three minutes of fighting, she had sustained two small wounds, spending most of her time using Props to nullify the Cannibal Player’s assaults.
The more she retreated, the more excited the Cannibal Player became. His expression grew twisted, as though the scent of blood had driven him wild. It was then that something unexpected occurred—another pair of Players locked in combat within the carriage crossed paths with them. The female Player used White Notes to pull one of them forward, directly into the Cannibal Player’s path!
The Cannibal Player wasn’t like ordinary Players who avoided contact with others’ blood and flesh. Faced with food served up to his mouth, why would he refuse? Amid the chaos, the unsuspecting Player was caught off guard and had his shoulder torn apart. The Cannibal Player ripped off a chunk of flesh, tilting his head smugly as blood sprayed from the meat in all directions—only to be suddenly impaled through the throat by an iron rod seemingly shot out from nowhere.
The carriage fell silent for a moment as the Cannibal Player’s corpse collapsed onto the floor. A Player sitting in a nearby seat casually brushed blood off his hat with a detached air, kicked the iron rod free from the body, retrieved it, then lowered his hat over his face as though none of it had anything to do with him.
It wasn’t uncommon for underhanded tricks to emerge mid-fight. The remaining three Players didn’t stop, and the man tricked by the female Player automatically added the other two into his kill list. The chaotic brawl resumed.
Two versus one—that Player now injured found himself at a disadvantage in an evenly matched situation. Ultimately, he was forced to retreat into the rear transition car while sealing the door behind him with a Prop.
Back within the carriage, the female Player and the other man exchanged a glance before pulling back to their respective spots.
After their brief skirmish subsided, the carriage returned to peace. Over time, the front and rear sections of the train quieted as well. Just as everyone assumed the night would pass without further incident, a sudden intense light flared in one of the front carriages, its exact location unknown!
"What idiot..." Accompanied by a curse, all the Players in every carriage snapped awake, bracing themselves and staring out at the train with vigilance!
The Alien’s roars and the sound of explosions breaking through the carriage echoed in succession, followed by Players shouting and small-scale detonations—the train continued speeding along the tracks, flinging corpses and blood forward in droves. Players in the rear carriages could sense the agitation of Aliens crawling along the car exterior, though for some reason, the ones outside Xu Huo’s carriage hadn’t been entirely drawn to the front by the glaring light. While the illumination had provoked them into chaos, all it did was heighten the intensity of their movements.
Inside the carriages, everyone instinctively held their breaths, as though that might stave off disaster. In truth, the usual activities within a carriage wouldn’t attract the Aliens outside. However, the arrival of a different kind of Alien on the train wasn’t a guaranteed outcome.
Some Aliens were sensitive to light, while others responded to sound. The more acute their senses, the higher their Level of threat. With bad luck, Players might run into Aliens activated by the faintest of disturbances, making nighttime an even greater ordeal. A single mistake by one person could potentially put the entire train at risk.
They were fortunate this time. The Aliens outside their carriages ceased their actions as the chaos in the front carriages dwindled. Gradually, other Aliens quieted down as well.
The train’s forward momentum remained uninterrupted.
Inside the carriages, the Players exhaled together in relief.
The Player wearing a hat muttered under his breath, "Every time I take a train, there’s bound to be an idiot or two."
Idiotic wasn’t quite accurate, though. Unless someone was dragging others down with them, it was hard to imagine anyone messing things up just for fun by turning on a light.
The remainder of the night stayed relatively calm. No further incidents occurred until morning, at which point Players in the rear learned that Carriage Three had been destroyed. An emergency passageway had been set up in the now-empty section, but Players were prohibited from traveling through it.
"Let’s hope there won’t be any more idiots tonight." The hat-wearing Player visited the front before returning to survey the people inside the carriage, offering nothing more than this remark.
"Maybe keep your comments to yourself," another man sporting a Buzz Cut said, glancing at him. "Provoking others will only increase the odds of trouble at night."
The hat-wearing Player shot him a cold look, then returned to his seat and ordered a meal.
Xu Huo chose a simple meal from the menu, paid the attendant a tip as usual, and silently ate his food.
Sitting across from him, the female Player wasn’t watching shows today. Instead, she addressed him apologetically, "I really must apologize for last night. I disturbed you."
During her fight with the Cannibal Player, she had inadvertently involved Xu Huo.
"No problem." Xu Huo glanced at her plate. "Dieting?"
The female Player seemed eager for conversation and explained, "I haven’t touched meat in a long time."
Since the game had started, many Players experienced this kind of side effect.
"Still not mentally adjusted," the female Player said self-deprecatingly. "Which is why my stamina is so bad."
Xu Huo didn’t see anything particularly bad about her performance. "Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it eventually."
"Maybe." She stuffed some vegetables into her mouth and introduced herself, "I’m Ye Bingxin."
