Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 1159: Trying Out Luck

Chapter 1159: Chapter 1159: Trying Out Luck

The elder’s eyes changed, instinctively exhibiting a body language of resistance, "Evolver’s Blood!"

"Exactly." Xu Huo lifted the syringe, his face devoid of expression as he spoke, "Let’s gamble with luck. If you can successfully evolve, I may spare your life. If you’re unlucky, you’ll quickly show degressive traits once this injection is administered, and by then the military personnel will naturally deal with you."

"Has the success rate of evolution been tested before?" He pushed the syringe into the immobilized arm of the elder, "Experience what those forced to evolve feel."

As soon as he finished speaking, the syringe, along with the person, vanished from the car. The elder struggled violently forward but discovered the same two bodyguards sitting beside him. Hastily rolling up his sleeve and seeing the bloodied needle mark, his shoulders slumped as he collapsed into his seat.

"Elder Yang, are you alright?" the Player beside him asked with concern, also noticing the needle mark but completely oblivious to what had just occurred; they had presumed it was an ambush by a pursuing Player which prompted one of the Players to signal the driver to speed up while another leapt from the vehicle.

Xu Huo followed the convoy from the air; in less than a minute, the second car skewed out from the lineup, and with a piercing screech of brakes, the driver’s door was flung open. The struggling driver, with a person on his back, managed to exit the vehicle—it was the elder.

By now, he had lost all rationality, desperately biting onto the driver’s shoulder, using both hands and legs to clutch onto this strong young man, fresh blood triggering relentless gurgling sounds from his throat.

The two Players serving as his bodyguards quickly intervened to separate them, with one delivering a knife-hand strike to the elder’s neck, yet surprisingly it did not knock him unconscious.

Two more Players arrived shortly after, shocked to see the red-eyed elder attempting to bite others, but then seeing the driver with a chunk of flesh bitten off, they knew all too well he was beyond saving; surviving would just mean becoming a Cannibal Player. Moreover, in his state, he would completely lose his sanity even before he could get back in the car.

In such situations, there’s typically no need to report to higher-ups, but given the elder’s special status, the Players had no choice but to subdue and remove him while reporting back the possibility that the Player attacking the safe zone had carried Evolver’s Blood.

On the safe zone’s end, the battlefield had yet to be secured when they received the news, prompting an urgent arrangement for the evacuation of key personnel.

Xu Huo smoothly took the last transfer plane, accompanying them to a secret safe house.

Fortunately, two individuals on the list were already residing here, having just relocated from elsewhere.

Not only were forces from outside wreaking havoc, but some Players were also following leads to find them, launching reckless assassination attempts. Of course, dealing with these Players was not difficult, but before doing so, they had to lay low.

"These people are lawless!" a middle-aged man took a big gulp of alcohol and slammed the glass onto the table, "They even dare to attack a military convoy!"

Compared to his frantic anger, a slender-faced man with a gentlemanly demeanor swirled his crimson wine, speaking calmly, "Those living on the lowest rungs are already seething with resentment. Now that they are Players, of course they want to vent their anger."

"A bunch of criminals!" the middle-aged man’s eyebrows furrowed into one, "If you ask me, we should have followed my initial proposal to enforce biometric identification for every Player. Even if they lose just a patch of skin, the Special Defense Department could trace their eighteen generations!"

"Don’t put too much pressure on the Special Defense Department. They are already overwhelmed with increasing their manpower. If we were to force all Players to register their identities, there would have been chaos long ago." The slender-faced man said, "Come sit for a while, I reckon the issue will be resolved in less than half a day."

The middle-aged man was already restless, pouring himself more alcohol.

The room was full of acquaintances, and at that moment, a round-faced pudgy man spoke up, "Elder Yang is dead."

Since the beginning of evolution, government officials have died from time to time, which was not unusual. Everyone in the room made a show of sighing as if in sympathy.

However, the round-faced man continued, "He was injected with Evolver’s Blood. The reason... you all understand, don’t you?"

The thirteen people in the room simultaneously changed their expressions; some were surprised, some felt guilty, and the middle-aged man drinking alcohol turned his head to glare at the round-faced man, "Liu Zhichao, what do you mean by that?"

Liu Zhichao enigmatically leaned back in the sofa corner, "Don’t you watch the news? Are you totally unaware of the Special Defense Department internally selecting ordinary people and forcing their evolution?"

It was impossible for those present to be unaware of such a major issue; in fact, they knew even more. They were aware of which members of the Special Defense Department were involved and understood their funding sources and which influential figures they were connected to. They all simply refrained from discussion.

"Of course, I know the mess of the Special Defense Department, and I’m asking what you mean by bringing this up right now?" The middle-aged man took another swig, his face flushed with alcohol, and challenged with a boozy breath, "You were involved in this too, weren’t you? What, getting scared now?"

Liu Zhichao smiled, casting a glance around those present, "My point is, let’s all turn a blind eye. Once the Special Defense Department wraps things up, we’ll act as if it never happened. We’re all colleagues here; none of you wants to end up like Elder Yang."

A besuited elder nearby chuckled, "Zhichao, since when have you become so cowardly? Do you really think the Special Defense Department would dare to trouble you? Even if they dared, they wouldn’t leak the news."

Several others nodded in agreement.

The slender-faced man said, "It’s just a pity to lose those laboratories, built with real gold and silver, now just a gift to the Special Defense Department."

Liu Zhichao glanced at the few silent individuals and nonchalantly remarked, "We can find other labs if one is lost. Without those unrestrained Players, the Special Defense Department won’t be a problem."

None present objected; the middle-aged men just frowned slightly, showing a hint of aversion, clearly reluctant to engage further in this topic.

"You all can go out." The slender-faced man waved at the Players in the room’s corners.

The six Players left the room without a word.

As the door was about to close, the middle-aged man got up with a bottle in hand, "I need some air."

Two others followed him out.

Now ten people remained in the room.

"Big Li is all bark and no bite." The slender-faced man laughed, speaking of the middle-aged man, "He wouldn’t dare to take any real action."

He paused, then turned to the besuited elder, "Elder Wan, as far as I know, the two labs managed by your students are not on the Special Defense Department’s clean-up list, no wonder you’re so calm."

"Young man," Elder Wan shook his head with a smile, "Children concern themselves with right and wrong. We serve the country. So long as we adhere to basic rules and regulations, the outcome is what matters most."
