Chapter 66: The Last Normal Day

"Ah, the crystal! If it helped my father with his illness, can it help William?"

Soon, a light red crystal appeared in his hand, and Lucien placed it in his friend’s mouth...

"Eat this, William, it will help you..."

After William swallowed the crystal, Lucien saw how miraculous the item was... His friend’s shallow breathing improved, and he was no longer so pale.

"What happened? Did we win?" William asked, a little confused...

Lucien gave a relieved smile and replied:

"I think we can—"

"Shit, it’s the police, we need to get out of here! Can you get up, William?"

With Nina and Lucien’s help, William got up, and they quickly fled the scene before the police arrived...

"Why did we run? We were the victims, we should have stayed there," Nina asked, not understanding.

Lucien’s two friends remained silent and didn’t ask any more questions. After all, it was likely that their parents wouldn’t go to the police station either, or worse, they’d end up blaming them for causing trouble and getting into fights...

They soon arrived at William’s house, and Lucien organized the last supply deliveries, going to Nina’s house and then returning to pick up the last of the supplies that had arrived during the day...

Arriving at the entrance to his apartment, Lucien saw several extra boxes piled near his door and in the hallway. He took them all inside and organized them along with the final supplies he brought from William’s house...

With today’s supplies, his pantry and two other rooms in the apartment were now overflowing with food and other essentials. He had also prepared many bottles and containers to store water, but he would save that for the last few days...

Inside the bathroom, while taking a shower, Lucien reflected on everything that had happened during today’s incident... His hands trembled whenever he remembered the way he had mercilessly struck Kurt in the face and how close William had come to death because of him... He made a silent promise that he would not hesitate again when other people’s lives were in danger.

After his shower, he fed his father another crystal, completing the day’s treatment, and fed Mr. Mustache for the last time. Soon, the second part of the mission began, giving him an additional level 1 crystal for completing the first part, and asking Lucien to feed the same crystal to the cat, and then lock him in one of the rooms of the house for the next two days...

"Meow"

Mr. Mustache meowed, trying to chase after Lucien when he realized he was being left behind. This made Lucien feel guilty and lean in close to him...

"I’m sorry, my friend. You need to stay here. It’s for your good, I promise!"

After petting his cat a few times, Lucien finally closed the guest room door and went straight to bed to rest. He didn’t even have an appetite for dinner today.

Before falling asleep, he looked at the other reward he’d earned today:

"If the system gave me a way to create such a thing, does that mean radio signals will no longer exist?" As Lucien pondered such a possibility, he finally fell asleep after a tiring day...

"Growl"

Lucien was awakened the next day by the rumbling of his stomach, announcing his hunger. He realized it was almost noon and simply ate some cereal with milk.

He then went to the room where he had locked Mr. Mustache, slowly opening the door. Soon, he saw the black cat lying motionless on the bed.

"Mr. Mustache, are you okay?"

Lucien approached slowly, concerned, and saw that the cat was still alive, but breathing weakly. When he touched him, he saw that he was hot, with a much higher fever than normal.

"You’ll be fine, buddy, just hold on a little longer!"

Lucien locked the room again and went to get ready to go to the cinema, where he had promised to meet his friends. He hadn’t received any calls from them canceling the movie, so he assumed William and Nina must be fine. And that’s what he confirmed when he met them at the cinema.

"You’re late," Nina said, scolding him.

"I’m sorry, I fell asleep and forgot to set the alarm for Saturday. Are you better, William?"

"I’m amazing, Lucien! What was in that crystal you gave me?"

"This..."

Lucien then explained about the crystal...

"That explains why I’m not tiring easily anymore, and I seem to be much stronger than before... Also, the pain in my ribs has disappeared since yesterday, and the wound on my head seems to have disappeared, but it still itches a little..."

While the mysterious fever affecting all domestic and wild animals in the world was barely reported in the mainstream media...
