Chapter 606: Chapter 606 Two Old Foxes

Shen Junlan’s last bit of will kept telling her in her mind, reminding her that she couldn’t keep drinking anymore.

Because getting drunk had already caused enough embarrassment, if she continued to drink and blacked out, no one knew what might happen next.

Shen Junlan rarely got truly drunk, so she had no precedents to refer to.

She was worried that once she got drunk, she might turn into someone else, do something she would deeply regret, and then wake up tomorrow morning, socially dead on the spot, unable to face Chen Wei.

This was the one thing Shen Junlan absolutely didn’t want to happen.

"Mr. Chen, shall we just call it a night?" Shen Junlan suggested proactively.

"Sure," Chen Wei raised his hand to call over the barbecue shop owners to pay the bill.

Seeing this, Shen Junlan quickly stood up and said, "How, how could this be! It was me who asked you out, Mr. Chen, how can I let you pay the bill? I, I... Ah!"

Shen Junlan overestimated herself, and only upon suddenly standing did she realize, she was far more drunk than she had thought.

These legs were as soft as cotton and couldn’t support her body at all.

Failing to grab the table, she fell sharply backward.

Shen Junlan closed her eyes instinctively.

But the pain did not come for a long time.

It was only when she tried to open her eyes that she saw Chen Wei’s face, close at hand.

Glancing to the side, she realized that she was currently in his arms, just like in the clichéd scenes from movies and TV shows, being held by him.

In movies and TV shows, it looked quite clichéd.

As a seasoned writer, Shen Junlan even disdained to write such scenes.

But after this experience, she found that this sort of thing didn’t seem as... boring as she had imagined.

Instead, her heartbeat sped up even more.

There was an indescribable, unexplainable excitement.

Fortunately, she was red from the alcohol; otherwise, Shen Junlan really didn’t know how she would explain this to Chen Wei.

Chen Wei helped Shen Junlan up and let her sit back on the chair, and asked with concern, "How are you doing? Are you okay?"

At the same time, he noticed that Shen Junlan’s face, especially her ears, seemed redder than before.

Was it because of the alcohol, plus the sudden rising, that caused her blood to rush?

Chen Wei wasn’t sure.

He took out his mobile phone and paid the bill.

Shen Junlan, with words on the tip of her tongue, chose to swallow them down, not wanting to embarrass herself further.

She decided to find another time to invite Chen Wei out and return the favor.

Otherwise, this incident would definitely become a thorn in her heart, lingering and inescapable.

"Mr. Chen, could you trouble yourself to call me a ride so I can get home? It seems I don’t have the strength to walk," Shen Junlan asked, embarrassed.

"I’ll drive you home," Chen Wei offered.

"Drive? But you obviously had so much to drink..." Shen Junlan was very worried; if there was an accident, it would involve two lives.

It didn’t matter to her; she simply didn’t want to implicate Chen Wei.

"To me, that was just like drinking water, I’m sober now," he said.

Despite his words, due to Shen Junlan’s good sense of traffic safety,

Chen Wei reluctantly took out her phone from her bag and dialed the number for a designated driver she often called.

And he asked the person to bring another driver along.

After all, there were two cars.

After about fifteen minutes,

two designated drivers, riding their electric scooters, arrived.

"Miss Shen, long time no see," the man greeted Shen Junlan with a smile.

However, when his gaze shifted to Chen Wei, the smile instantly faded, and he mechanically said, "Hello."

Especially after he saw Chen Wei wrap his arm around Shen Junlan’s waist, his expression grew even darker.

The other person, however, kept his baseball cap low and remained silent.

"So, sir, please hand Miss Shen over to me. I’ll take responsibility for seeing her safely home," the man reached out his hand.

Chen Wei likewise extended his hand, preventing him, "No worries, I’d like to take her a bit further myself."

"..." The man was somewhat embarrassed, but he didn’t say much more.

Squeezing out a smile, he nodded in agreement, "Alright, then."

Afterward, the two folded the electric scooter and placed it into the rear trunk, taking up no space at all.

The guy wearing a hat was responsible for driving Chen Wei’s car.

The man took charge of driving Shen Junlan’s car.

Chen Wei accompanied Shen Junlan in the back seat of the car.

On the road.

Glancing at Shen Junlan, who had fallen asleep in Chen Wei’s arms, through the rearview mirror, the man suddenly asked, "May I ask, what is your relationship with Miss Shen?"

"Boyfriend." Without the option to consult with Shen Junlan at this moment, Chen Wei took the initiative.

As a man himself, he could surely see that the fellow before him harboured a slight fantasy towards Shen Junlan.

Chen Wei knew Shen Junlan didn’t like to be bothered by this sort of thing, so he simply stepped forward to act as a shield and cut off the man’s thoughts.

"Boyfriend, huh... I didn’t expect that in just half a month, Miss Shen would have a boyfriend. Half a month ago, she was still complaining to me that her family was pressuring her into marriage, and it made her very uncomfortable."

"Is that so?" Chen Wei didn’t ask further, aware there was more to the man’s words.

The man seemed to want to say something else but then chose to shut his mouth on his own.

The rest of the journey was silent.

Fifteen minutes later.

The two cars arrived in front of Shen Junlan’s villa.

Another person was waiting outside.

"If you’re very busy, sir, I could replace you and escort Miss Shen to her room. I consider myself a friend of hers as well, and I certainly wouldn’t do anything inappropriate," the man offered.

"No need, what could I possibly be busy with at this time?" Chen Wei shook his head in refusal, his smile more of a smirk.

He didn’t expect the guy to be so bold as to make such a suggestion.

Knowing full well he was being guarded against.

"Your services are no longer required here; you can go back now," Chen Wei extended his hand, clearly signaling for the man to return the car keys.

After a moment’s hesitation, the man ultimately decided to place the car keys into Chen Wei’s hand.

"I’ll wait for you outside," the man said simply, his meaning clear: that he would keep an eye on Chen Wei to prevent any foul play.

The Designated Driver sitting in the other car watched this scene and snorted with a laugh, muttering to himself, "Two old foxes, together they have three hundred wiles."

After receiving the keys, Chen Wei led Shen Junlan into the house.

He supported her all the way to the second floor.

He helped her off with her shoes, laid her on the bed, and then covered her with the blanket.

After ensuring everything was in order, he turned and left.

Seeing the lights on the second floor go out, a minute later, Chen Wei came out from inside the house, closing the door behind him.

The man’s heart that had been hanging finally settled.

"Let’s go," Chen Wei glanced at the man.

"Okay," the man replied.

Chen Wei opened the car door and got into the passenger seat, stating his next destination.

The man unfolded the electric scooter, mounted it, and followed behind them.

Chen Wei occasionally checked the rearview mirror.

After leaving the villa complex, he noticed the man had chosen a different route, parting ways.

He always felt that the guy was up to no good in his mind.

But the next second, Chen Wei lost interest in caring about the man.

By his side, he sensed a strong, unmasked intent to kill!
