Chapter 219: Chapter 219 Poisonous! Second Update

"Right, I am indeed worried," Chen Wei nodded without hesitation.

Upon hearing this, Zhao Xinlian’s mood was about to improve, but then Chen Wei immediately followed up with a sentence, "I’m worried you’ll skip out on the bill."

"..." Zhao Xinlian’s expression froze immediately, and she reproached him with an annoyed look, "If you can’t speak properly, then don’t speak. No one is forcing you!"

As time ticked by.

The number of guests who came to the dining room for dinner after soaking in the hot springs was growing increasingly larger.

In just a few short minutes, the room had almost filled up with people.

Seeing that Zhao Xinlian had finished everything on her plate and was now slightly tilting her head back to drink the last bit of red wine from her glass, Chen Wei was about to stand up and leave the dining room when he saw a waiter pushing a food cart approaching them.

Stopping in front of them, "Sir, Miss, today is our hotel’s tenth anniversary. To celebrate, we’re offering a complimentary seafood soup and sashimi platter. Would you be interested in trying some?"

"Sure, let’s try it since we’re here," Zhao Xinlian said as she put her coat, which she had started to pick up, back on the empty chair next to her.

Seeing the situation, Chen Wei had no choice but to sit back down in his seat.

After all, he had nothing to do upon returning, and with free food offered right to his mouth, there was no reason not to eat, especially since his stomach still had room for more.

However, when the waiter brought the soup tureen to the table and lifted the lid, Chen Wei’s facial expression turned instantly cold.

He quickly looked around and saw that most people were eagerly tasting this complimentary seafood soup.

"Please enjoy," said the waiter.

"Thank you," Zhao Xinlian responded with a smile.

"It smells amazing!" After the waiter left, she could hardly wait to pick up her spoon to taste the soup.

But Chen Wei picked up chopsticks instead and reached out to hold Zhao Xinlian’s hand, stopping her motion.

"What are you doing?" Zhao Xinlian asked with a frown.

"You can’t drink this soup," Chen Wei shook his head.

"Can’t drink it? Why can’t we? It’d be such a waste not to drink such good soup," Zhao Xinlian didn’t understand what Chen Wei was suddenly up to.

"Indeed, it would be a waste not to drink, but if you do, you’ll likely die."

"Die!"

Hearing this word, Zhao Xinlian was so frightened she couldn’t even hold on to her spoon, which fell onto the table.

She quickly composed herself, thinking that Chen Wei must be joking with her, "I know you understand medicine, but I’m not allergic to seafood, you must be mistaken."

"It’s not the ingredients that are the issue; it’s that the soup has been poisoned," Chen Wei explained.

"Poisoned?!" At this, Zhao Xinlian turned her head to look around, still not taking Chen Wei’s words seriously, "They’re all drinking it; why aren’t they affected?"

No sooner had she asked this than the sound of a porcelain bowl hitting the floor and shattering followed, with someone collapsing and starting to convulse.

"How can you..." Their companions stood up to check on them, but soon they too collapsed, frothing at the mouth.

Then more and more unusual sounds began to arise one after another.

"Now do you believe me?" Chen Wei asked.

Zhao Xinlian had no spare thoughts left to respond to Chen Wei’s question; she was utterly stunned by the scene unfolding before her.

The waitstaff were also panicking, trying to pull out their phones to dial for emergency services but they had no chance, apparently having tasted the seafood soup themselves and not lightly poisoned.

"The person who poisoned the soup, if I’m not mistaken, should be the guy standing at the kitchen entrance," Chen Wei analyzed.

The kitchen entrance?

Hearing this, Zhao Xinlian quickly turned her gaze in that direction, "I think I recognize that person."

"Do you know him?"

"I only know of him," Zhao Xinlian explained. "I saw him on the local news before. Shi Hongyang, he’s the head chef of this hot spring hotel and has won many awards."

"I didn’t expect you to remember even such a thing," Chen Wei thought Zhao Xinlian’s temperament wouldn’t bother with these minor details, these insignificant people.

Even though the man was the head chef of the hot spring hotel, compared to Zhao Xinlian’s status, he was still far beneath her.

"The reason I remember him is that he has an exceptionally hot temper, often receiving complaints from guests. But because there’s an equally large number of people who like the taste of his dishes, he has never been fired."

"Really?" After hearing what Zhao Xinlian said, Chen Wei could probably guess why he would poison the soup at the anniversary celebration."

"So what do we do now?" Zhao Xinlian’s voice became anxious. "He’s looking at us! He’s coming this way!"

"Don’t worry, what are you afraid of with me here?" Chen Wei said calmly.

Zhao Xinlian wanted to retort to Chen Wei, what time is it, and you’re still joking with me?

But before she could speak, Shi Hongyang was already in front of them, holding a well-used meat cleaver in his hand!

Zhao Xinlian definitely didn’t want to provoke this kind of person.

"Do you have any complaints about the dishes I made? Why aren’t you drinking the soup?" When Shi Hongyang smiled, his eyes narrowed into slits, and his face wrinkled up, looking not friendly, but terrifying.

Zhao Xinlian had seen many horror movies and thought Shi Hongyang would be perfect for the role of a devil in them, a natural fit!

"Sorry, we are both allergic to seafood," Chen Wei responded with a smile.

"No problem, I have anti-allergy medicine right here. You drink first, and after you finish, I’ll go get it for you. Today is a very important day for the hotel, don’t be a spoilsport," Shi Hongyang said as he slammed the meat cleaver down on the table, maxing out the intimidation.

"Since you say so, it indeed seems unreasonable not to drink."

"Chen..."

"Hmm!"

Zhao Xinlian was just about to speak out to stop him, but Shi Hongyang’s fierce glare made her swallow her words.

She could only watch helplessly as Chen Wei gulped down the poisonous soup, swallowing it into his stomach.

Knowing it was poisoned, why on earth would he drink it? Had he been scared silly?

Shi Hongyang was satisfied with his expression, eagerly waiting to see Chen Wei collapse, foaming at the mouth.

But after nearly two to three minutes, there was still no effect.

Feeling puzzled, he heard Chen Wei ask, "Isn’t it strange that I’m not poisoned?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about!" Shi Hongyang played dumb until that moment.

"What if I said I’m immune to all poisons, would you believe me?" Chen Wei asked again.

"Immune to all poisons?" Shi Hongyang let out a laugh, "You’ve watched too many TV shows and movies. Immune to all poisons? I’m immune to a billion poisons, idiot."

"Not only am I immune to all poisons, but I can also cure all poisons," Chen Wei said, producing a plum-sized ball in his hand.

With a toss into the air of the dining hall.

Bang!

It exploded instantly, with white powder spreading like fog, rapidly dispersing and propagating. Accompanied by the breathing, it was inhaled into the stomachs of those who had been poisoned.

"Stop with the tricks! Drink! Continue drinking!" Shi Hongyang picked up the knife and hacked it into the wooden table.

It didn’t scare Chen Wei but made Zhao Xinlian trembling across from him, her delicate body shivering.

Before Chen Wei could reply, Shi Hongyang also shook violently.

Because behind him, voices started to emerge! Those who should have died from the poison were climbing up from the ground one by one, standing up as if nothing had happened!
