Afterward, the two repeatedly apologized to Su Yumei and Liu Mi, and bowed deeply to Chen Wei before scurrying off like drenched dogs, tails between their legs.

They really didn’t want to clash with Chen Wei—in the end, who knew whose fists were harder?

They still had that much self-awareness.

"Senior Sister, how are you? Are you both okay?" After they left, Chen Wei stepped forward and inquired about their condition.

"We’re fine; you arrived just in time." Su Yumei shook her head, feeling luckier than ever to have such a junior brother.

If Chen Wei hadn’t come, today’s issue probably wouldn’t have been resolved so easily.

"I’m fine, thank you," Liu Mi politely said.

"Um, Senior Sister, could you go back in and get my room card for me?" Chen Wei gestured backward, hinting at Zhao Xinlian, "She’s still in my room, and I need to get her some clothes."

Su Yumei didn’t say anything, simply nodded her head, turned around, and went back inside. Soon after, she found the room card where Chen Wei had said it would be and returned it to him.

"Here you go."

"Thank you, Seni..." Chen Wei reached out to take the room card.

Out of the blue, Su Yumei lifted her hand, dodged his, and sternly said, "After you get her clothes, let her leave quickly. Don’t get too involved."

"Got it, I understand," Chen Wei replied with a wry smile.

Seeing his assurance, Su Yumei then comfortably handed the room card back to Chen Wei.

Chen Wei took the room card and jogged off, heading in the opposite direction from Su Yumei and Liu Mi.

Arriving at Zhao Xinlian’s room, he used the room card to open the door with a beep and walked in.

It didn’t take long for him to see the clothes messily spread out on the bed, from the outer to the inner, none missing. The beige color with a hint of transparent lace patterns was somewhat provocative to the imagination.

So, this woman also had such a bold side!

Shaking his head, Chen Wei banished the extraneous thoughts, wrapped the inner garments with the outer ones, picked them up, and left.

He then returned to his own room.

Hearing the sound of the door unlocking, Zhao Xinlian immediately pulled the blanket up over her shoulders, covering herself up tightly.

"Put these on." Chen Wei came to the side of the bed and tossed the wadded-up dress at Zhao Xinlian.

The bundle wasn’t very tight and unfolded in midair.

The bra ended up hanging on Zhao Xinlian’s head, and the panties draped over her right shoulder, making her appear somewhat comical.

Zhao Xinlian hadn’t yet responded when she reached up to remove the item from her head. Her face instantly turned beet red, "Turn around quickly! I need to change my clothes."

Chen Wei remained immovable.

"What are you doing?" Seeing that he still didn’t get it, Zhao Xinlian glared at him.

"This is my room; why should I take orders from you? Do you really think I’m your servant?" Chen Wei crossed his arms, leaned against the wall, and rather than showing the slightest inclination to do as Zhao Xinlian wished, his gaze instead became more intense.

"Could you please turn around?"

Catching the faint shimmer of tears in Zhao Xinlian’s eyes, Chen Wei’s heart softened, and he finally moved to the door.

Then he could hear the rustling sounds of changing clothes.

Stepping out from behind the wall, Zhao Xinlian saw Chen Wei still facing it, like a student being punished by a teacher, and she couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. She told him, "I’m dressed now."

"Oh, if you’re dressed, then hurry up and leave," Chen Wei said while pressing down on the door handle, opening the door, and standing against the wall.

At his words, Zhao Xinlian’s expression went cold again, and she asked, "Do you really not want to see me that much?"

Chen Wei didn’t hurry to answer but turned to look at Zhao Xinlian and chuckled lightly.

"What are you laughing about?" Zhao Xinlian asked again.

"I just find it funny that such words would come out of your mouth. Before, you seemed to wish you could toss me out like trash every day, and now you’ve had a change of heart? Could it be, have you fallen for me?" Chen Wei took a step closer.

Seeing the situation, Zhao Xinlian quickly stepped back two paces, avoiding his gaze, "Don’t get the wrong idea, I have no such thoughts about you. I just wanted to do something to thank you for your help, I’m someone who doesn’t like to owe others favors!"

She emphasized her words heavily, afraid that Chen Wei would misunderstand.

"That’s good to hear. If you had really fallen for me, it would be difficult to explain to senior sister." Chen Wei crossed his arms and nodded repeatedly, looking pleased.

"You!" Zhao Xinlian felt a mix of emotions at his words, but as she was about to speak, she thought better of it and held back.

"Alright, you’ve got dressed, and everything that needed to be done is done, please." Chen Wei gestured with his hand.

"As I said, I don’t like owing people favors. How about this, there’s a restaurant downstairs. I’ll treat you to a meal so that neither of us owes the other anything afterward," Zhao Xinlian suggested.

"You think a meal will clear the debt of saving your life?" Chen Wei teased.

"So, what do you want to do? Don’t tell me you want me to pledge myself to you?" Zhao Xinlian snapped back, feeling both shame and anger, "Besides, I only fainted from immersing in the water, and as for whose fault it ultimately is for that happening, who do you think it is?"

"Fine! We’ll eat. Once we’re done, we’ll go our separate ways." Chen Wei stopped joking when he saw Zhao Xinlian getting more and more worked up, and waved his hand to stop his teasing.

He mused to himself that this woman was still the same as before, incapable of taking a joke.

"Hmm." Zhao Xinlian responded and led the way.

Chen Wei followed, taking out the room card. The lights automatically turned off.

Before long, the two arrived at the hotel’s dining room and took their seats.

At that time, there weren’t many people in the dining room, so the dishes were served quickly.

Chen Wei had just picked up his chopsticks when he saw a waiter bring over a bottle of wine and place it next to Zhao Xinlian, "Wine?"

"I’ve gotten used to having some red wine in the evening. It makes it easier to sleep," Zhao Xinlian explained.

If it were anyone else, Chen Wei might have taken the initiative to say he could help with a massage to relax the mind.

But since she was his ex-wife, Chen Wei thought about it and chose to keep silent.

Silence ensued.

Halfway through the meal, Zhao Xinlian stood up, "I’m going to the restroom."

"Oh."

Chen Wei continued to focus on his meal.

He finished off a plate of seafood noodles, a bowl of stew, and half a glass of red wine, yet Zhao Xinlian still hadn’t returned.

"She can’t have run into trouble, could she?" Chen Wei glanced at Zhao Xinlian’s seat. If she had left early to avoid embarrassment, she surely wouldn’t have left her coat behind.

Unable to keep eating, Chen Wei quickly stood up, ready to go look for Zhao Xinlian.

But he ran into her at the exit, bumping into each other.

Zhao Xinlian, clutching the door handle, was startled by Chen Wei’s frantic, hurried look, "What’s the matter with you?"

"It’s nothing, let’s go back and continue eating," Chen Wei shook his head, calming his emotions.

Seeing that Zhao Xinlian had an extra bag, he guessed she must have gone back to their room to fetch something since he had only brought her clothes.

Back at their seats, Chen Wei poured himself another half glass of wine.

Then he heard Zhao Xinlian’s voice, "I thought maybe you had some urgent matter that made you leave."

"Urgent matter? What urgent matter could I have?" Chen Wei capped the wine bottle and set it aside, pinching the glass between thumb and index finger, savoring the wine, acknowledging that it indeed tasted good.

"With how hurried you were just now, don’t tell me..." Zhao Xinlian swallowed, clutched at her dress, and lifted her eyes, which were as clear as autumn waters, "Don’t tell me... you were worried about me?"
