Journey to the West: Starting from Changing Sun Wukong’s fate
Chapter 369 - 370: Why Not Let Old Sun Kill Him

Chapter 369: Chapter 370: Why Not Let Old Sun Kill Him

Hearing Sun Wukong’s words, Zhu Bajie couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious as well. After all, Sun Wukong appeared quite worried about Xuanzang and now he was actually urging the monster to eat Xuanzang.

Zhu Bajie quickly understood that Sun Wukong was probably worried that the Golden-Winged Roc would use Xuanzang as a bargaining chip.

If they showed that they valued Xuanzang greatly, the Golden-Winged Roc would surely make exorbitant demands, taking advantage to assert many impudent requests; thus, without even starting a fight, they would already be at a disadvantage.

Realizing this, Zhu Bajie plopped down onto a cloud.

Then, with a nonchalant face, he said, "Old Pig has long wanted to return to Gao Laozhuang. This monk is rather a burden; you should hurry up and eat him!"

"Then Old Pig wouldn’t have to go through all this trouble of seeking scriptures in the Western Heaven. After that, I can enjoy a carefree life!"

With a pitiable look, Zhu Bajie said to Sun Wukong, "Brother Monkey, when they give you Xuanzang’s flesh later, could you share a piece with Old Pig to taste the freshness?"

"Of course you can, but I fear they won’t be willing to share with us!" Sun Wukong also glanced at Zhu Bajie, their understanding unspoken.

"If they don’t give it to us, we’ll just take it. After all, they can’t beat us. We could even take care of that big bird in the process—Xuanzang’s scant flesh won’t be enough to go around for us."

Sun Wukong couldn’t help but say with a smile.

"That’s a good suggestion!"

Zhu Bajie took a deep look at the Golden-Winged Roc.

Watching how unconcerned the two were, the Golden-Winged Roc snorted, "You two are quite the pair, do you think I can’t see what you’re up to?"

"Do you truly know?"

Sun Wukong couldn’t help but give a wry smile, totally unconcerned.

"Isn’t it just because you do not want to be dragged down by Xuanzang?"

The Golden-Winged Roc, although wounded, was not foolish.

He naturally saw through what Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie were planning. With Xuanzang in his grasp, it was obvious they didn’t want to be weighted down by Xuanzang, otherwise, they wouldn’t say such things.

Even without their words, he wouldn’t kill Xuanzang so lightly; how could he freely enjoy Xuanzang’s flesh without first dealing with Zhu Bajie and Sun Wukong?

"What do you think you can do? Do you really dare kill Xuanzang?"

Sun Wukong slowly began, "Since you are arranged by Buddhism, I don’t believe you’ll really act!"

"You can try if you wish. I shall see how you will seek scriptures in the Western Heaven without Xuanzang!" the Golden-Winged Roc retorted with a cold snort.

Sun Wukong couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

"What does seeking scriptures have to do with Old Sun? Do you think I’m interested? Didn’t you know that we are all being forced by the Immortals and Buddhas of heaven? Why would Old Sun, a comfortable Mountain King, bother seeking scriptures?"

As Sun Wukong spoke, he looked at the Golden-Winged Roc as if staring at a fool.

"Seeking scriptures in the Western Heaven is currently the most significant affair in the Three Realms. If you protect Xuanzang and he reaches the Western Heaven, the Tathagata might offer you a place in Buddha’s realm. You, a monkey demon, do you not aspire to attain Buddhahood?" The Golden-Winged Roc said with a laugh after hearing Sun Wukong’s words.

"Attaining Buddhahood?" Sun Wukong couldn’t help but laugh scornfully, "Do you think I would covet such a thing? What fun is there in being a monk? Chanting and fasting all day, even if one lives as long as heaven and earth, what pleasure is there to speak of compared to my current freedom and ease?"

"Besides, your saying so seems like a joke to yourself. If Mount Meru were truly so wonderful, why would you come here and commit evil deeds? If being a monk is so marvelous, why would you establish yourselves as Mountain Kings, indulging in blood food?" Sun Wukong said with a sneer that concealed a smile.

He had already heard about the identities of these three demons from his elder brother.

One of these demons was Tathagata’s uncle, and the other two were mounts of Manjushri Samantabhadra.

Now this Golden-Winged Roc, who supposedly was Tathagata’s uncle, was actually talking about attaining Buddhahood.

He himself being Tathagata’s uncle yet roaming about committing misdeeds?

However, Sun Wukong’s words made the Golden-Winged Roc’s face change dramatically, saying with some surprise, "Sun Wukong, how did you know our identities?"

After saying this, the Golden-Winged Roc realized his slip of the tongue and hastily shut his mouth.

Sun Wukong laughed heartily, "Old Sun’s divine skills are boundless, his calculations beyond measure, how could I not know of your origins? You want to eat Xuanzang? Go ahead, I want to see how the Ancestor Buddha Tathagata deals with you afterward. After all, this Journey to the West ’Calamity of Measurement’ benefits Buddhism most of all—they’ve been laying out their plan for so long just so that the journey could be brought to perfection. If you eat Xuanzang now, you’ll be making an enemy of the entire realm of Buddhism!"

Sun Wukong never thought he would one day brandish Buddhism’s influence.

But no matter what, as long as it works, it works.

A glint flashed in the Golden-Winged Roc’s eyes as if he was mulling over something.

Then he snorted coldly at Sun Wukong, "Sun Wukong, you need not scare me with Buddhism or Tathagata. Even if the Tathagata himself came today, this king would not be afraid!"

"Whether you are afraid, Old Sun does not care. But by all means, go ahead and kill Xuanzang. If you don’t kill Xuanzang, I shall think less of you!"

Sun Wukong said with a cold sneer.

The Golden-Winged Roc’s identity, had it remained a secret, wouldn’t have been a cause for concern, but now, after Sun Wukong’s words, the roc seemed to have positioned himself against the entirety of Buddhism.

At this moment, the Golden-Winged Roc himself grew anxious. He had thought he could threaten Sun Wukong with Xuanzang’s safety, but Sun Wukong didn’t care about Xuanzang’s life or death, which immediately put the Golden-Winged Roc and his followers at a disadvantage.

"Did you hear that? Now send our master out quickly!"

Zhu Bajie bellowed out loud.

The Golden-Winged Roc was momentarily silent, and the many monsters standing behind him exchanged uncertain glances.

However, just then—

A massive shadow suddenly appeared above Sun Wukong and the others, as two sharp claws tore through the sky, swiftly charging toward Sun Wukong.

The sky was filled with the angry roar of the Golden-Winged Roc, "Sun Wukong! Dream on if you think you can make this king submit! Go to hell!"

Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie immediately looked up and saw it appearing right above them— the human-shaped Golden-Winged Roc that had been with the other monsters was just a clone.

The true body of the Golden-Winged Roc, having hidden in the shadows, suddenly emerged and ambushed Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie, targeting Sun Wukong first.

Because Sun Wukong was the most powerful and the hardest to deal with, if he could be taken by surprise and killed, the rest, including Zhu Bajie, were insignificant in the roc’s eyes.

Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie, unable to hide their alarm, raised their weapons to meet the Golden-Winged Roc’s advance.

One of the Golden-Winged Roc’s claws blocked Zhu Bajie’s Nine-toothed Rake, while another claw was aimed straight at Sun Wukong.

At that moment, Sun Wukong seemed to be caught off guard and was grabbed by a claw of the Golden-Winged Roc, but just as the roc was about to deal a lethal blow—

Suddenly, Sun Wukong’s body shattered and transformed into a piece of monkey fur.

"Damn it!" Noticing this, the Golden-Winged Roc realized he was in trouble.

Seeing their king had acted, all the monsters also attacked at once, swarming toward Zhu Bajie.

In almost an instant, Zhu Bajie was completely surrounded.

In a flash, Zhu Bajie found himself amidst chaos.

The Golden-Winged Roc had intended to seize the opportunity to kill Sun Wukong, a move he believed Buddhism would certainly not object to, yet he hadn’t expected to be evaded by Sun Wukong.

"You mangy beast, you think you’re the only one who knows the Clone Technique? How many times will you be deceived before you learn?" Sun Wukong’s voice suddenly came from afar.

Following the voice, the Golden-Winged Roc saw Sun Wukong appearing some ten miles away in the sky, his Jingu Bang gleaming as it smashed down toward the roc.

Feeling this force, even the Golden-Winged Roc couldn’t help but shudder.

He seemed to sense the intense killing intent emanating from Sun Wukong.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The heavens and earth thundered.

It seemed as though he was locked in place by the Jingu Bang, unable to dodge.

At this point, with no other options, the Golden-Winged Roc was left with nothing but to fight to the death, hoping for a slim chance of survival.

The Golden-Winged Roc’s mind raced with this thought, his pupils dilated, he let out a piercing cry, and by beating his wings suddenly turned into a bolt of lightning flying toward Sun Wukong.

Simultaneously, Sun Wukong’s Jingu Bang smashed down at just that moment; considering the short distance between them, and both heading toward each other—

In the blink of an eye, they were about to collide.

However, just at that moment—

Suddenly, a golden light emerged between them, enveloping the Golden-Winged Roc within it.

As Sun Wukong drew near the golden light, he too found himself unable to move forward.

Sun Wukong’s expression changed as he hastily circulated his cultivation technique to retreat, sensing that this force had no intention of stopping him.

The Golden-Winged Roc, on the other hand, was like an animal caught in an invisible net, struggling fruitlessly to break free from the confinement of the golden light.

Then the light grew more and more intense, and a huge Lotus Platform suddenly appeared within the golden light, a great Dharma Appearance manifesting atop it.

The Golden-Winged Roc cursed, "Tathagata, how dare you use great magical power to trap me! Release me at once, I am going to scatter Sun Wukong’s ashes!"

The sudden appearance was none other than the Ancestor Buddha Tathagata, who arrived just in time, unwilling to let the Golden-Winged Roc die under Sun Wukong’s Jingu Bang.

Sakyamuni Tathagata brought his hands together, Buddha’s light scattering from behind his head, and compassionately spoke, "Do not be so blindly stubborn. If I hadn’t rescued you, at this moment you would already be dead under the Jingu Bang. And yet you still dare to be fierce?"

"Who says I would die? I could definitely have killed this dead monkey, so stop sticking your nose into this!"

The Golden-Winged Roc shouted, his gaze filled with intense fury at Sun Wukong.

"So stubborn and foolish!"

Sakyamuni Tathagata couldn’t help shaking his head.

"Why don’t you let Old Sun here finish him off?"
